Brand new! This elegant designer villa was just completed in March of 2013. Set on an elevated lot and built with an abundance of glass. The living areas open to gracious verandas on the front and to a private swimming pool to the side. Built by the island’s top custom home builder and decorated by its premier interior designer, Tops is stylish and comfortable. Tall ceilings throughout create a sense of grandeur and a spaciousness.
Tops features a large open-plan living and dining area, perfect for entertaining, and a fully equipped kitchen. The great room opens onto a veranda via two sets of sliding glass doors. There is also a powder room and laundry room off the living area.
The two bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and walk in closets. Both have sliding glass doors that open onto a shared wrap-around veranda. The master bedroom has a king-size 4 poster bed. The second bedroom has twin beds that can be converted to a king.
Outside there are landscaped garden areas and decks as well as a small private swimming pool and patio area. Amenities include air conditioning throughout, cable TV with DVD player, and high-speed internet with wifi.
Tops is located on a hill top in Governors Harbour, in a small quiet community of vacation villas called Governor’s Estate. The town of Governors Harbour, a five-minute walk down the hill, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster most afternoons from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.
A 10-minute stroll down the hill in the other direction takes you to French Leave Beach, a mile-long crescent of pink sand that has been ranked in the top 20 beaches of the world. Most visitors to Eleuthera rent a car, because the island is rural and spread out, and a car is the only practical way to get around. By car, Tops is just a minute from French Leave Beach.
Eleuthera is famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 11000 residents, is known for its friendliness and safety. Visitors enjoy the rare experience of picking up hitch-hikers and leaving their keys in the car. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks, jet skis, scooters, and bikes. You can have a charter captain take you out for excursions of various types. You ride horses on the beach or on trails. There is excellent sightseeing as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, a bottomless ocean hole, many unique beaches, historic churches and 19th century homes, and small villages to explore. We hope you will enjoy Tops, and experience all our island has to offer.
Tops is tops. The house is modern, but equally comfortable and well-equipped. During our stay, we frequented restaurants, but mostly cooked in the wonderful kitchen. There were three of us, and the house has three bathrooms. There is a washer and dryer which came in useful toward the end of our amazing ten-day stay.
Kathy and Bob, the owners, were incredibly helpful. When we arrived, there was a wonderful lasagne, wine, water, and beer waiting for us. Kathy came over and provided vital information, giving a cell phone to us for local calls, recommending markets and restaurants. We have so many favorites, from Friday night happy hour at Bacchus Fine Foods and Wine to the beautiful bay front restaurant, 1648. We loved getting cocktails at The Buccaneer, talking with locals, and eating breakfast at the bottom of the hill, at Da Perk.
Tops is at the top of the hill in Governor's Harbour, a short walk west to groceries and restaurants or a short walk east to the beach. The house is centrally located on the island with all the amenities of home. We were able to travel north and south, to the Blue Hole (a 600 ft-deep swimming hole affected by the tides), to Rock Sound, which has a great grocery and liquor store (south), and then north to James Cistern, Rainbow Bay, Surfer's Beach, and to Hatchet's Cave (not to be missed). The snorkeling was shallow, but incredible at Rainbow Bay when the wind was blowing out of the east. LeoRose is a great roadside place on the Queen's Highway to sidle up to the bar for a drink, some pumpkin rice, and admire the Caribbean sea. Gregory Town has great shopping, Handmade in Bahamas was an amazing place. I got some Batik fabric. There is also a wonderful bakery, but nothing rivals the bakery in Governor's Harbour. Don't miss out. It's scrumptious and SUPER affordable. Also, go to Island Farm (south, but not far from Governor's Harboour.)
Just down the road from Tops is the most beautiful beach on the whole island, French Leave. We snorkeled and swam there as much as possible. Tippy's Bar and Restaurant, on the southern end of French Leave is great for a cocktail with a stellar view. We meant to eat there, but didn't get to it on this trip. Next trip for sure!
I can't say enough about Tops. The home, the landscaping, the pool, were fantastic, whether you want to just relax and stay central in Governor's Harbour or go off exploring, you can't beat returning to Tops.
We just returned from a week at Tops. We are a family of four who love to get away to a little beach and relaxing and exploring the week after Christmas. We've been to a few different islands and Tops and Governor's Harbor won our hearts. The house is immaculate - comfortable beds, soft sheets, huge lovely towels for bath and beach. The pool is small but a beautiful refresher and the surrounding estate is quiet and perfectly kept. We like to cook and eat healthy when on vacation, something that is impossible to do at a resort. The tops kitchen has 100% of what you need to make absolutely anything, plus a gas grill. Fresh lobster tails from the harbor with a salad made from fresh picked lettuce from the owners garden? It's all yours at Tops. The best beach in Eleuthera for walking, swimming and snorkeling is a walk down the hill. Tippy's for conch fritters and a rum punch, Bacchus for a few gourmet items, Island Farm for delicious bread and vegetables. Kathy and Bob are welcoming and right there if you need something, but respect your privacy 100%. You can walk into Governor's harbor from Tops as well (the hill is a decent workout but that's not a bad thing!) and grab coffee at Da Perk or food at the Bucaneer. A fancy dinner at 1648 is also a special treat. The Leon Levy nature preserve is a worth a good visit as are as the many beaches to explore. Tops is fantastic and the Colemans surely have the best designed and best kept properties on Eleuthera!
Beautiful, well-appointed home. My last day, I decided to not go to the beach with my children--I spent the last day alone all day at the Tops House. I opened all of the windows and let the trade winds blow through. I floated in the pool and had the most relaxing day I can remember.
The home came with everything we needed for an amazing stay in Eleuthera. I can't say enough about the Coleman's hospitality--Kathy went above and beyond to make us feel welcome with her visit and delicious lasagna. This was our first trip to the island of Eleuthera--we're nature lovers and I was so impressed with the preservation of the beauty on the Island. We felt like we were walking on beaches untouched by men--just beautiful. And the people of the Island were so sweet and welcoming--it meant a lot to us. It will be our vacation spot from now on. If we can get everyone together, we plan on bringing our entire family back soon and, of course, we'll rent from the Colemans.

Tops is nothing but tops! We had a wonderful time at this house and on the island. The house is just as beautiful as in the pictures and Governors Estate is a wonderful quiet community of houses on top of the hill. Kathy greeted us upon our arrival and even gave us a delicious warm meal and wine for our first night. The house has everything you will need which makes coming and renting a home for a week that much easier. The beds are super comfy and if it’s nice enough open the windows and you'll get a good cross breeze for some of the best night sleeps. I would recommend anyone visiting the island especially the first time to stay at any of their properties. Eleuthera, what can I say besides people did not lie it possibly has the most beautiful beaches you’ll ever see with some of the nicest people you will ever meet. We stumbled upon an article written about the island and after a little research decided we were up for a vacation that was full of exploring and tranquil beautiful pink sand beaches, and it didn’t disappoint! Everyone that lives and comes to the island enjoys the sheer beauty if has to offer. If you are looking for paradise with serene beaches, come here. Our favorites were French Leave beach and if you are up for an adventure you have to check out Lighthouse beach. We did stop at the water holes along the way south of the island, not too much to see there. The pink sand beaches were incredible and you could go all day without seeing another person on the beach. Favorite spots to eat were Da Perk and 1648 (great sunsets), and check out the fish fry on Friday. We visited Harbour Island and there’s a little more going on as it is more developed and would recommend a day trip or a night up there, just get off the ferry (you can catch this near the north Eleuthrea airport and make sure you stop and take photos at glass window bridge along the way) and hop in a golf cart and ride around all day. Wonderful shops, beaches and restaurants. We are already thinking of coming back and splitting time in Governors Harbour and a night or two in Harbours Island. Again if you want a peaceful relaxing vacation away from everyday life you must come visit this island.
We LOVED our stay at Tops House.....everything about the house was wonderful, it is very clean and well-maintained. The decorating is beautiful but also welcoming and comfortable. It is well equipped, has very comfortable beds and a great kitchen. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, the shaded decks lovely, the pool an added bonus and having a grill was great. Beautiful breezes flowed through the house, the evenings were so quiet and peaceful with beautiful stars in the sky. We have stayed at many rentals on a Eleuthera over the years and Tops is our favorite so far - we would gladly go back!
Kathy and Bob are very lovely and friendly hosts, they take obvious pride in their properties.
The location of Tops is perfect. Hilltop provides nice breezes. You can walk into town for supplies, bakery, exploring and quite a few restaurants and also in the other direction to beautiful French Leave beach. We recommend a vehicle for exploring and those times you would rather not walk or cart supplies/beach gear up the hill.
We visited many beaches on the island and French Leave is our favorite with Ten Bay a great option if the waves are up on the Atlantic. Went to Preachers cave, Glass Window and Queens Baths, Harbour Island where we honeymooned many years ago was fun to visit for a day but we would not want to stay there, too busy (Sip Sip restaurant so good!). Don't miss the amazing bread, sauces and veggies at Island Farm and if you are up North there is a great little fruit and veggie stand in Bogue and a good sized grocery store near Bluff.
So much fun, already planning next year!
Our family loved our stay at Tops House. It is decorated beautifully and has all of the comforts of home. We arrived to a lovely bottle of wine and a lasagna in the refrigerator until we had a chance to shop. Kathy and Bob could not have been nicer and were available for any questions we had along the way.
Some highlights of our trip included French Leave Beach, horseback riding on the most beautiful beach, Fish Fry, Junkanoo(Xmas Day), Sky Beach Club for the day and some lovely meals at 1648, Tippeys, Rainbow Inn just to name a few.
We hope to visit Eleuthra again someday soon and we will most definitely use Home Away and Kathy and Bob.
Thank you for wonderful memories!
