We are a family of four who fell in love with Stonington many years ago.
Lauren Lewis purchased this townhome in 2011
We have been visiting Stonington for over 30 years and even rented a top floor apartment in the Borough, commuting from the East Village in NYC in the 1970's when Stonington was more of a working-class, Portuguese immigrant community. What hasn't changed is the beauty of its setting and how committed its residents are to its preservation.
We love how Grey House functions whether we are visiting as a family or whether we are entertaining friends. Whomever wakes first can dash out to Yellow House for bagels or egg sandwiches and pick up the paper and a quart of milk at Tom's. Even the young kids can bike or walk around town or to the playground or beach. Daily constitutionals around the Borough are one of our favorite rituals.
Have stayed at this property twice in 2 years. Owners couldn't be any easier to work with. Great location, professional grade appliances in kitchen and beautifully decorated.
What a beautiful home! I recently stayed here with a group for a girls' weekend. The house was beautifully decorated from top to bottom (especially the kitchen, which we all loved), and had eveything that we needed to do a bit of cooking and plenty of towels and linens. We all agreed that the house not only lived up to the pictures, but exceeded them. The location was perfect - an easy walk to downtown/the water. We traveled to a few of the surrounding towns for wineries and nightlife, and easily used Uber to get around at night. And, the owners could not have been nicer and easier to arrange our stay with; dealing with them was an absolute pleasure. I would highly recommend renting the Grey House if you are in need of a place to stay in this area!
The Gray House was perfect for our friends getaway! The house is even better than the pictures! The whole house was just special-from the cool, antique rugs and furniture to the beautiful kitchen. There are touches in this house that aren't typical to a vacation home that make you feel so comfortable. The back porch was perfect for morning coffee. Just sit back and enjoy all of the birds and the cool breezes. We were nervous about not having A/C but the owner was right-the ocean breezes along with the ceiling fans made it feel like the A/C was on even on the second floor! We loved every minute of our time at this home and hope we can come back soon. Stonington is indeed a really special place.
I wish that I could give more than 5 stars as this is a wonderful home and vacation property! The entire house is very well maintained and so easy to use. You can't beat the location either! One block from the main street (Water Street) in Stonington where you will find amazing restaurants and great stores.
Our group of 4 couples had a wonderful stay at the Grey house! We have rented in the area before and have found that most houses that can accommodate this large of a group tend to be really small with everyone on top of one another. Grey house is really large with many sitting areas to hang out and catch up. We wish that we could have used the kitchen more as it has amazing appliances. And even more so, we would have loved the opportunity to use the grill and eat outside! I guess next time as we will be back!
This is a beautiful home. Lauren and Michael have obviously put much forethought, love and elbow grease into making it such a calm and welcoming place. The layout of the house, with a TV nook, an upstairs common area, a lovely patio, and more, made our group of 3 generations mix (or retreat) well. The kitchen was outfitted with everything you'd want, including a few basic groceries. Bathrooms (indeed, the whole house) was impeccably clean, and lush towels were available for all guests. The bedrooms were light and airy. The location was very nice, too. A quiet street, but just a block or two from fine dining and shops...and the water. I brought my bicycle and was so glad I did: there were such scenic routes to explore. My husband was happy to find the Beer'd Brewery at the nearby Velvet Mill. Lauren had left us a welcome basket with a note, bottle of wine and some treats. This was so thoughtful and set the tone for a wonderful stay. Also, the front door keypad entry made it extremely easy for everyone to come and go as they needed. We loved this house and hope to have a reason to visit again.
We rented this house in early October for a girls weekend to celebrate my sisters 30th birthday. We had an amazing weekend. The house is beautifully decorated and in a great location with close proximity to restaurants and shops. We also spent some time up at Jonathan Edwards Winery which is about a 15 minute ride north. The house has everything you might need and the kitchen was fantastic...a pleasant surprise since we love to cook! Lauren was a great person to rent from- very accommodating and helpful. We're thinking of making this an annual trip...only next time stay longer!
