About Lauren Lewis

We are a family of four who fell in love with Stonington many years ago.

Lauren Lewis purchased this townhome in 2011

Why Lauren Lewis chose Stonington

We have been visiting Stonington for over 30 years since Stonington was more of a working-class, Portuguese immigrant community. What hasn't changed is the beauty of its setting and how committed its residents are to its preservation.

What makes this townhome unique

We love how Grey House functions whether we are visiting as a family or whether we are entertaining friends. Whomever wakes first can dash out to Indulge for bagels or egg sandwiches and pick up the paper and a quart of milk at Tom's. Even the young kids can bike or walk around town or to the playground or beach. Daily constitutionals around the Borough are one of our favorite rituals.

The Gray House was a wonderful place to stay. We had everything we needed. It felt like home.

Our family was very happy here. Our first year in the Borough without our own house, this felt like home and had everything we needed.

The Grey House was perfection! From the moment we arrived (to the kind note and welcome wine!) we appreciated every detail – it was wonderfully clean, beautifully appointed and much roomier that we had even expected. Located right in the Borough, we were able to walk to beach, to coffee shop, to restaurants and even to boat dock to buy seafood. We had a simply fabulous stay and look forward to the opportunity to come back some time.

Great Property. Unbelievable house!

  • 5 of 5

This house is incredible. Our stay was only enhanced by the incredible service of our hosts. Extremely organized and detailed, our stay was laid out perfectly through a series of simple correspondence and an air tight renters manual. As for the house itself, it was so inviting. The kitchen features state of the art appliances, and the living areas are perfect for entertaining. We hope to have an excuse to visit Stonington because we would love to rent this house again.

Perfect for a family.

There were seven of us, gathered in Stonington for Thanksgiving. A large kitchen and dining area accommodated us all. Very pleasant and charmingly decorated. We would rent it again without hesitation.

Dubois Beach - in the Borough
Car: recommended

Considered the quintessential Connecticut village, Stonington Borough is brimming with history. Walk out the front door and experience life in the heart of a spectacular fishing village, built on a peninsula and surrounded by water. Stroll past perfectly preserved buildings dating from pre-Revolutionary times. Walk to charming Dubois beach, great for kids, picnics, shelling, spectacular sunsets, situated on a point with views to three different states. On your way to the beach, visit the Old Lighthhouse Museum which details Stonington's colorful history. Stonington harbor attracts world-class sailboats and yachts while commercial lobster boats share the waters. At the dock, buy your live lobsters right off the Lady Lynn or pick up seafood at the honor-system shack. Dock your boat at Dodson's or Don's Dock or bring your kayak and launch it right in the Borough. Just around the corner are wonderful restaurants and cafes and some of the finest antique shops and art galleries in the region. Just steps away is a children's playground that abuts a Saturday farmer's market that features organic, local meats, seafood, produce and baked goods. Rent a sailboat, kayak or paddleboat for the day at the Sailing Foundation, just two blocks away. Walk to tennis courts, playing fields, a community center, basketball courts. Excellent options for golfers include the Pequot Golf Club, Weekapaug Golf Course and Elmridge.

Stonington Library, a block away, has wonderful children's programs, reading rooms and periodicals. Just a few miles away is Mystic Seaport, a living museum with a wondrous array of sailing ships and vessels. In addition to an extensive schedule of demonstrations like blacksmithing, knot-tying, bread baking, and wooden ship restoration, listen to storytellers and discover the incredible children’s museum. Close by is the Mystic Aquarium with its amazing exhibits of underwater life and the largest natural habitat of Beluga whales and African penguins in the U.S. Nearby places of historical interest are the Nathaniel Palmer House, Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park, Brant Pt. Lighthouse, Watch Hill Lighthouse, the Submarine Force Museum with the USS Nautilus, a WWII submarine. Dennison Pequotsepos Nature Center is five minutes from the Borough with summer programs for kids, interpretive walks and naturalists. Other nearby parks and nature preserves with hiking and biking options include Bluff Island State Park, Haley Farm State Park, Pequot Woods Park, Knox Preserve and the Manatuck Preserve right in the Borough. Just ten minutes north is Westerly, RI, gateway to some of the finest ocean beaches anywhere: Watch Hill, Misquamicut, and Matunick. Summer theater is abundant: Westerly runs its “Shakespeare in the Park” every July, check the programs at the Granite Theater, Theatre by the Sea and the Garde Arts Center. Westerly also hosts the Westerly Pops and the Salt Marsh Opera Compay. The prestigious Eugene O’Neill playhouse in New London presents nightly staged readings of new plays in workshop by playwrights like Theresa Rebeck and Lanford Wilson. For cinema, discover the Olde Mystick Village Cinema showing three screens of art and independent movies. Find the mainstream multiplex cinemas in nearby Stonington and Groton. Take the Connecticut wine trail through picturesque countryside to over 16 local vineyards that offer tours and tastings, starting just outside the Borough at Salt Water Farm Vineyard.

Close by, but far enough away are Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos, that in addition to offering vast gaming options, boast world-class restaurants and performances by jazz and pop superstars like Beyonce and Bon Jovi.

There is so much to see and do!
