If you appreciate historical homes with a sense of place on an idyllic, charming island, then the 'tree house' is for you.
Large, private yard
This charming cottage is a perfect retreat for people ready to leave it all behind. The location couldn't be more perfect–it's right in the middle of the island, which means easy access to the grocery, a funky fish market, numerous farmstands, yoga at the chapel just down the street, some of the nicer restaurants on the island, and hiking in Mashomack preserve. A 5 min drive to Crescent Beach (free parking) or other quieter ones too. (It's worth getting a temporary parking pass from the town hall if you're staying for longer than the weekend). You could also totally make do with the cute bikes that come with the house. The yard is shady and big and the street is quiet, making the whole experience super chill. The owner has amazing taste—the house is decorated in a very light, airy, and thoughtful way, perfect for the island. We feel in love with this place and can't wait to come back. The owner is very sweet and accommodating. My wife and I can't wait to go back.
In short this house is perfect. It combines the quaint charm of a cottage with all of the modern amenities one could wish for. Located in a peaceful, tree lined street, the garden totally private from all sides. Fluffy beds, comfy sofas, sunlight throughout. We have stayed here in both winter and summer months and in each season the house seems to offer exactly what we needed to relax and forget the city!
A perfect base for either exploring the Hamptons, or enjoying the laid back atmosphere and natural life of Shelter Island.
This house is perfect. We stayed once and came back to stay again. The only thing that i hated was the days we had to leave....
We have stayed at this wonderful property many times and highly recommend it!
A truly magical atmosphere, beautiful interior, chefs kitchen, log fire, huge garden ...
As soon as you enter, you immediately feel at home - and don't want to leave!
Classic cottage in an idyllic island setting. Centrally located with easy access to all lovely island beaches and restaurants. Large private yard with old school fire pit. There is also an organic farm on the island that has many family events and a beautiful nature preserve. The entire island is a visual treat as it feels as though you have stepped back into a quieter, gentler time.
