In a quaint and romantic small Downtown.
We believe you will enjoy our place if you travel for the purpose of promoting health and wellness through physical activities and relaxation including cultural experience. Sandys is the western most Parish. It's named after Sir Edwin Sandys who made large investments to colonize the parish in early 1600s. The parish name is pronounced as 'Sands'. Sandys has five islands that are joined by bridges. The islands are Ireland Island North, Ireland Island South, Boaz Island, Watford Island and the biggest of all, Somerset Island. The Royal Naval Dockyard where most of the cruise ships anchor, is located at Ireland Island North. Being farthest from the congested Hamilton City, the parish provides refreshing piece and serenity that are quickly disappearing in tourist populated Bermuda.
To wake up every morning to the Beautiful picturesque blue water, sail boats, coconut trees, etc!
Easy Access with Bermuda Public Transportation System! Least expensive, reliable, safe and convenient way to explore the Island.
Buses and Ferries for Sandys, Bermuda
Bus routes #7 and #8 connect Hamilton City and Sandys. Bus #8 is more frequent than #7 and takes the Middle Road in Sandys through the urban areas, while bus#7 takes mainly the scenic South Road.
There are several ferry stops in Sandys that serve Hamilton City.
1) At the Dockyard - Few Bus Stops from EXIM Guest Apartment
2) At Watford Bridge - Walking distance from EXIM Guest Apartment
3) At Cavello Bay - Walking distance from EXIm Guest Apartment. This is located in Somerset island and is a lovely place. Buses won't go all the way. To reach the ferry stop, take Somerset Road, then Sound View Road and then Scott's Hill Road and go right up to the end.
4) At Somerset Bridge Wharf.
We recently came back from a five day stay and can’t say enough good things about the place and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking to stay on this end of the island. It was extremely clean and spotless, well-appointed with furnishing all top notch. The landowners were very friendly and helpful and a pleasure to work with, arranging for a taxi for to/from the airport as well as to the Dockyard in order to accommodate our son’s sailing schedule. In regards to the actual area it’s located, there are only a few dining opportunities, but the bus stop is across the street and travel to the Dockyard or about the island is very accessible. Overall a great place to stay!
We spent 2 months at Exim Apartments and really enjoyed it. It was very clean
and comfortable. Convenient to local shops and the bus stop.
Hosts, Jody and Cathy were very helpful with any requests and we're looking
forward to returning next Winter.
We stayed at Jody's Place for 10 days. The owners couldn't have been more accommodating. They bought our Monthly Transportation passes for us in advance of our arrival, and sent a cab to pick us up at the airport. Communication was easy via email and on site as well. The apartment is located right at the edge of the main drag for Somerset Village with easy access to the bus stops. It is a 15 minute ride to The Dockyard where there are restaurants, shopping, entertainment as well as ferries to take you to Hamilton or St. George's. The apartment is clean, roomy and just like the pictures posted on VRBO. The people of Bermuda are so friendly and helpful, and the views on the island are spectacular.
We were in Bermuda for two wonderful weeks to celebrate our 30th anniversary. This was our 5th visit to this beautiful island but our first stay at Exim Apartment. The apartment exceeded our expectations in every way. It is clean, comfortable and very modern with every convenience. And so beautifully decorated! We particularly loved relaxing on the balcony in the evenings with a cocktail while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Mangrove Bay. The apartment is in a very convenient location with the bus stop just outside. Right in the village there is a restaurant, bank, pharmacy, beverage store and a post office. A very nice grocery store is just two bus stops away.
Cathy and Jody are the best hosts!! They are so friendly and helpful, so responsive to any questions or needs. The complimentary transportation from the airport to the apartment was greatly appreciated. Their offer to make an advance purchase of our bus/ferry pass was also such a big help. For
our anniversary, they suggested a dinner at Breezes beachfront restaurant and kindly made the reservations for us. The restaurant is within walking distance of Exim Apartment and the food and service were great! Enjoying our anniversary dinner while overlooking the beautiful beach and watching the sunset made for an extra special celebration.
It was a pleasure to meet Cathy & Jody and we sincerely thank them for helping make our visit to Bermuda so enjoyable!
We had a wonderful stay at Jody and Cathy's EXIM apartment. The apt. was exceptionally clean, comfortable, and convenient to bus lines going to other parts of the island. Nearby is a post office, pharmacy, small cafe, liquor store and casual restaurant/bar. Within a nice 8-10 minute walk is the best boat rental facility around (so I've been told by two different taxi drivers) with numerous types of rentals and tours. The grocery store is also within walking distance, about 15-20 minutes away. To get there, you can take the beautiful old railway walking trail for most of the way, although you need to walk on the road a short distance to reach the trailhead.
There are also several small bays and beaches nearby. Keep in mind that to get to most of the large popular beaches you will need to take a bus for about an hour or so. We found it fairly easy because we got a bus pass, and the ride offered great views of the coast and houses. Generally we never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a bus, but they can be really crowded when the cruise ships drop off thousands of passengers at the Dockyards Wednesday-Friday, and will pass you by if full during morning peak hours (or you have to stand, which can be challenging because the drivers drive really fast and there are a lot of curves).
When the beach and sun get to be too much, go to the Masterworks Museum located within the Botanical Gardens on the east. We saw two great exhibitions including internationally recognized artists, and a wonderful contemporary photography show by their visiting artist-in-residence.
The bed was a dream to sleep on...even though I have a very firm mattress at home, I found their king size, firm mattress with extra plush pillow top to be very supportive for my bad back. The shower was huge and the water pressure excellent. To beat the heat, there is an internal AC unit that worked very well and fast, and there are two ceiling fans for milder days. We had a great time sitting out on the balcony drinking wine, or using their small charcoal grill for a cookout. Cars do pass by frequently in the street below, but we did tune it out after a few minutes. The noise was not a problem during the night, even though I'm usually a light sleeper (of course, there's no sleep like vacation sleep!)
Jody was very friendly, helpful and responsive to our questions. Thanks for providing a relaxing place to stay during our first visit to the lovely island of Bermuda!
We were in Bermuda last week and loved staying at this guest house! The listing described the place very accurately!
The location is fantastic. It was a nice and sleepy town to relax out on the balcony and take in. It was very easy to take the bus from the stop nearby. We took a ferry to Hamilton from a dock that was a 10 minute walk away. We had the ferry to ourselves because all the other visitors take the ferry from the Dockyard. Make sure you check the bus and ferry schedules in the basket in the coffee table. Stop looking for a place! This is it!
Cathy and Jody even arranged to reserve our anniversary dinner on the beach at Breezes restaurant nearby! They are very nice people, just like everyone else we met in Bermuda!
We would recommend this place to all friends and relatives, and we will be back!
Naval Royal/Dock Yard, Maritime Museum, Fort Scaur, Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Smallest Draw Bridge in the World, Hog Bay
We LOVE "Hog Bay": This is one of the best kept secrets of the island and very few know about the beach. It is located in Sandy's parish.
So why is Hog Bay Beach so unknown in Bermuda? Because you need to walk quite a bit through a rocky and wooded trail to get to it, and it is only a beach at low tide. During high tide, the beach disappears completely. So the beach is usually available for you to enjoy only for about four hours a day. But for us that's a privileged exclusivity for four long hours, and we thoroughly enjoy the walk through the trail as well. It's a tiny beach at low tide and a beautiful area for swimming and snorkeling. At low tide, the shallows extend some 300 meters into the sea, and is excellent for snorkeling. But you should get hold of a tide chart to time your visit correctly. You can get a tide chart in the website weather.bm for any day.
