There is lots of woodwork throughout the house and lush gardens give you a tropical feel for a peaceful and relaxing stay.
The main house is divided into two independent apartments, upstairs and downstairs. They are very private and spacious and open out to our tropical garden and pool. Each apartment has one separate bedroom and can sleep 4 people with two queen beds, dining and living room spaces, large patios, and a fully equipped kitchen. The apartments are well equipped with ceiling fans and large windows to enjoy the tropical breezes, however A/C is available for an additional charge if you decide you would like it.
We also have a charming cabina perfect for a solo traveler or couple or for extra space for a large group. The cabina is an independent bedroom with a private bathroom. There is a nice, fully equipped outdoor kitchen and patio area for guests in the cabina to use, which makes it ideal for enjoying the outdoors.
The property is fully gated and we have a security guard at night for your peace of mind.
Enjoy the wild life nearby as iguanas and monkeys are common visitors.
From the garden you can pick your own papayas, bananas, coconuts, limes, aloe, and pineapples. We also offer beach chairs, bikes, and boogie boards for our guests to use.
I am originally from South Carolina, USA. After graduating from College of Charleston I took a few years off to travel and live abroad. During that time I fell in love with the traveler lifestyle, meeting new people and sharing different experiences. I knew immediately I needed to work out a way to make a living and continue to see more of the world.
Dana Bosse purchased this house in 2006
I first visited Costa Rica with my parents, helping them look for a retirement vacation home. We all fell in love with Samara right away. When we didn't find a house the first trip we decided to travel the entire Pacific Coast of Costa Rica looking for a town/area we liked as much as Samara. While there are other amazing places in Costa Rica, for us Samara was the only option. On our third meeting with a realtor in town, my parents found their retirement home, and I found Bambula. It is a beautiful property, inside and out, and I knew it would be the perfect place for me to host all of my travelling friends and friends I haven't met yet.
Bambula Samara offers versatility as a couple can rent only part of the house, or it can accommodate up to 10 for family and friends. Guests here feel very comfortable and safe, enjoy lots of space, and have all the amenities of a modern home with a very Costa Rican feel enhanced by the woodwork in the house. The original owner built the home with many unique design features that will stand out in your memories. Whether you are playing cards on the porch, cooking in the kitchen with your family, swinging in a hammock by the pool, or listening to the howler monkeys from your bedroom, Bambula is your home away from home.
- Dirty pans and dishes (needed to be re-washed prior to use)
- A haven for large nocturnal ants (unit was teaming with large ants all throughout the night and we had a surprise from a thumb-sized cockroach in the morning)
- UNRESPONSIVE PROPERTY OWNER:
When I asked Dana about the unsettling number of ants in the house (we killed 50+ on the first night), she mentioned that she hadn’t stayed in the upstairs unit recently but believes the ants only come out at night (not ideal with 2 toddlers in the unit… or people who aren’t fond if creepy crawling things). She said we could spray but it smells pretty strong.
She was completely unresponsive (aka radio silence) when I requested ant traps in the unit as an alternative to spraying the toxic bug spray. After two unanswered texts and an unanswered face-to-face request, I gave up on the situation and on Dana. Renters beware.
- Look/feel and size of unit
- Location (just 3 blocks from the beach)
- Pool (small but perfect for little kids)
- Property owner Dana was responsive before and during check-in
- Clean sheets and towels
We very much enjoyed our stay over Christmas at Bambula. We had the iguana suite which was very spacious and clean. Nice to have a kitchen for some meals. Nice little pool to cool off in. We saw howler monkeys the first day and could hear them at night. Very close to town and beach, less than 5 min. Would definitely come back to Bambula!! Thanks to Dana the host for a lovely stay.
The description of this location, 'a jungle oasis in the heart of Sámara' is accurate. Some four apartments are well placed on a small footprint of an apartment that manages to combine lots of birds (including hummingbirds), iguanas, dragon flies, and nearby Howler Monkeys as amiable neighbors. Dana was very easy to work with before and during our visit. The apartment was large and comfortable. Unseasonably cool temperature meant we didn't need to use the available air-conditioning, but it would have been a huge asset if Sámara had been as hot during our visit as it often becomes. The availability of a clothes washer and dryer was a boon to us at the halfway stage of a two-week Costa Rican vacation. We didn't use the small pool, but it's right there as needed.
The Sámara Beach itself did not strike us as Costa Rica's best sandy offering. But then we discovered just a few kilometers away the Pacific Coast's extraordinary Playa Carrillo. It was breathtakingly gorgeous with only a few souls sharing its expanse with us. New time, we'll head street for Play Carillo for the sun-sand-and-water part of the visit. It's easily accessible by car from Casa Bambula and would be do-able as a bike trip as well.
I stayed here for over 3 weeks and would have stayed longer, but the unit wasn't available. We stayed in the peaceful bottom apartment and enjoyed the roomy space. My son (12) loved having the pool right outside our door and having the dog French Fry visit us daily. The property is quiet and away from the bustle of town, but only steps away from town and close to the beach. Dana was wonderful and respectful. We really enjoyed our stay!
The property was exactly as advertised and exceeded some of my expectations. The location can't be beat. Just off the main road into town. Far enough removed from everything to be quiet but within very easy walking distance of the beach, bars, shops, and restaurants. The upstairs apartment had an open floor plan that was great for a vacation. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with everything you could need. The balcony was awesome! Dana and French Fry were great hosts. I will definitely be their guest again. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
We loved our stay at Casa Bambula. We were a group of eight, and rented the two apartments plus a cabina. We enjoyed the house, the location was great - just a short walk to everything - and we especially appreciated being able to cool off in the pool at the end of the day. We also loved being around the corner from the bakery (delicious empandas!).
Air conditioning is an additional $10/day. Please call or email for rates specific to your stay.
