William & Gayle Clark, semi-retired, love to travel and enjoy the outdoors. Avid skier, kayaker and hiker. Retired school teacher & home builder.
William Clark purchased this cottage in 2006
Purchased at Bear Lake Reserve for it's natural beauty and outdoor activities. Owned property at the beach for years and decided we needed something quiet and relaxful.
Love spending time on the lake, sitting on the rear deck enjoying the mountain views and the cozy fire.
The High Country Lodge sits back in the Lap of Luxury tucked into the wilderness setting of Bear Lake. The lodge has all of the amenities of the city with the woodsy setting of the Appalachians. This lodge provides everything you need except food which you can bring or it can be prepared at the Bear Lake Reserve clubhouse along with the other country club amenities. Swim in the pool, paddle across the lake, motor along the coves or ski around the lake, or just decompress in this idyllic setting reading a book. Whatever your pleasure, I'm confident you will find it at this picturesque location.
This place is great. Many extra details you won't find elsewhere because the owner is a custom builder who has added spectacular upgrades. There is a steam shower that you will absolutely love. I had been out kayaking and hiking and came back chilled and that steam shower felt wonderful and warmed me up much faster than a conventional hot shower. Many more amenities and everything you could want. Great view on two balconies and outdoor fireplace. This house has a great location within the community as well. I had a great time and hope to stay there again. Thanks, Bill, for everything. Great time.
We enjoyed our stay the moment we entered the Resort, beautiful landscaping and gorgeous views everywhere. The accommodations at High Country Lodge were way beyond my exceptions. Starting with the stainless steel appliances and granite countertops to all the fireplaces. Our trip included 5 guys who spent the weekend hiking the Panthertown Valley area, which has some of the best hiking in all of North Carolina. It was nice to end our days at such a place. There are two huge decks on the house and we spent most of our time on the deck w/ the fireplace. I can't wait to go back and after showing all the pictures to my wife, looks like it will be sooner than later. Thanks Bill for sharing your home, it was a pleasure and can't wait for my return.
What a wonderful home. This is a luxury 5 star home. It is located near the entrance of Bear Lake and close to Mill Pond and the amphitheater. The home is spotless and full of upscale amenities. It has lots of room and Bill is great to work with and is very accomodating. What a great place to go to get away.
We were looking for a quick weekend getaway to hike and visit the nearby towns however we enjoyed the house so much we never left. We played games cooked some wonderful meals and enjoyed the fire pit and fireplace on the back deck.
This home is so comfortable we felt like we were given the keys to the Clarks' personal home. The home is so well appointed you don't have to bring a thing.
Looking forward to staying again at High Country Lodge in the Spring so we can check out the Golf Course, Pool and Lake.
Thank you again Clarks' for sharing your beautiful home.
It has taken me a couple of months to find my way to writing this review and must apologize for that in advance. The good news is the experience was wonderful and memories surface regularly calling me back to make this review for the benefit of others and the owner. The owner has a history with the community and its original development providing exceptionally unique knowledge of the facilities and property in general. The wealth of knowledge provided not only about the rental property but the overall amenities during the planning stages of our trip was a huge bonus. The cabin itself is perfectly located near the entrance to the community which makes for great access to both day ventures into the surrounding NC but also equal access to the lodge and amenities. This property is large so location is important when considering where you want to be located during your stay within the bear lake community itself. For us the combination to reach nearby towns and overall NC access was as equally important as access to the lodge and facilities. We had family of all ages young to old with us during our stay including pets. Accommodations for older member of the parties and cabins in the mountains are sometimes difficult. In this case, a relatively flat access road, extra parking, and nice flat yard outside the cabin provided great access to older members of our party yet when you walk through to the porch on the other side of the cabin you are presented with the view from the side of the mountain you would expect. Not an easy combination to find. The Cabin is two story, but there are full accommodations upstairs including extra bath and bedroom with a wonderful outdoor porch so members of your party less mobile need not worry about traversing the stairs. This is a luxury level rental for sure so I'll skip the usual cosmetics and just say it is clean, well kept, overall excellent condition. The above beyond is in the details, labeled light switches, plenty of towels and linens, house functions documented for the renter and plenty of audio visual entertainment and well setup I might add. If you are looking for a unique setting this resort community has all the outdoor offerings, lake, lodge, hiking, fishing ponds for the kids etc.. You can make your day trips from this location and then when you need to occupy the little ones there is plenty to do down at the lodge or the mill pond. Many thanks to the owner for making this special property available.
