Fantastic Week

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our time at High County Lodge. The house is beautiful and big! We had lots of space for 2 families of 4 to spread out, but also a lot of great common areas and things to do to bring us together. We enjoyed the decks, and even in the first week of July the temperatures were cool enough to cook smores in the outdoor fireplace. Though the Lake Club is a bit of a windy drive, it is worth it. We spent a lot of time by the pool, enjoyed the pub that had great food and beer, and went kayaking and canoeing on the beautiful lake. Not to mention that Bear Lake Reserve put on a great 4th of July celebration with a concert and fireworks that we enjoyed from the deck of the house. Mr. Clark and his concierge were very responsive to any issues that we had. It was a fantastic week!

Really enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at High Country Lodge and Bear Lake Reserve. HCL is beautiful and a wonderful cabin to stay in, very spacious. We loved BLR. Western North Carolina is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Nearby Sylva and Dilsburo have fabulous restaurants and pubs (City Lights Cafe & Bookstore, Innovation Brewery, Haywood Smokehouse, and Soul Infusion Tea House). We did the waterfall tour, visiting Highlands and Cashiers, which was well worth the drive. Would like to have spent more time in each. And we spent a lot of time at the Lake Club, swimming, sliding, paddle boarding, kayaking, and playing games. We highly recommend the food at the Lake Club (fried green tomatoes, pork belly BLT, fried pickles, Lodge burger); I think we ate there at least 3 times. Oh, and we attended one of the Tennis Mixers and enjoyed playing with Coach Craig and his lovely wife Ann. But to be perfectly honest, the views alone were worth the trip. Gorgeous!

Wonderful and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Thank you William for the changes we made for the bigger house. We stayed at Bear Creek Lodge and was plenty of room for 2 adults and 4 kids 11-15. We all had space and everything you need is at the house. We bought food in town and all the spices and kitchen needs were there. The upstairs porch was my favorite. I was able to read 2 books.

Thank you again!

Wonderful Family Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My whole family -- my husband and son, my parents, my siblings and their kids (there were 10 of us in all at one point) - thoroughly enjoyed the Clark's home. We have vacationed as a large family before and this home was the best fit we've ever had. It is often very difficult, if not impossible, to find a house as nice as the Clark's that will still allow pets. We are very grateful that the owners allow pets because my parents won't travel without their dog. The house -- especially the kitchen -- is incredibly well appointed and we never wanted for a thing (well, except for a blender for frozen drinks, but that was really it!).

We loved having access to the Bear Lake Club with all of its fantastic amenities, and my dad and brother really enjoyed the golf course. Again, it was quite striking that even though we had so many in our party the house never felt crowded. We very much enjoyed the movie night with the big screen too. Lastly, it bears mentioning that all of the beds were incredibly comfortable (and I'm writing this from a London flat we're renting where the bed is hard as a rock!).

Mr. Clark was always returned our queries quickly and helpfully (even helping to coordinate the return of a few items we left). We very much hope to return to this wonderful home next year, and I think that says it all as a recommendation!

Outstanding home in the mountains! Perfectly set location wise and the home is just beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at HCL. Our two families and the children really had a great time. We hiked, built fires, went out on the water, watched a movie in both the theatre room of the home and the clubhouse, we cooked and really enjoyed the three days we stayed. Highly recommended!! Definitely will rent again. Thank you for making such a perfect home that's beyond equipped!
