About Roald Eyvindsson
Hello, my name is Roald Eyvindsson and Im from Iceland. I'm a journalist and an editor and at the moment I´m writing a book. Am into arts, travel, excercise and GOOD FOOD :).
Why Roald Eyvindsson chose Reykjavík 101
I've always dreamt of living in an old house in Reykjavik's city center - close to all the buzz. But at the same time I wanted a comfortable place to retreat to. I finally got my change when I found an old off street house, in an increasingly popular and vibrant area, and decided to buy and renovate it to meet modern standards. And now I'm a proud owner of my own little paradise.
What makes this House unique
The style, old age and history of the house made me fall in love with it. Not to mention the location, the neighbourhood is just great with all necessities and attractions close at hand. And the house has two balcanies, where I love to drink coffee in the summer.

My family of 4 just stayed here and it was wonderful. Roald is an exceptional host - he was very responsive to our questions, the place was ready to go when we arrived (we used the sofa bed and a cot which were made up nicely) and he had perfect recommendations for breakfast and dinner restaurants within walking distance. The house was well stocked with everything we needed.
The location is amazing - one block from the main street of the city and 3 blocks from the cathedral. Wonderful for sightseeing and easy to drive out of town to explore. You do have to pay for parking in this location (9-6pm) but it was worth it since we could walk every where when we returned from our day trips.
I would definitely stay here again if I am back in Iceland.
A cozy Reykjavik retreat indeed!
Our family of three spent a week at Roald's cozy Reykjavik retreat over the Summer Solstice. Roald was very accommodating and promptly responded to all our questions. His place is exactly as pictured and is in a great location - just a half block from the Hallgrimskirkja and all that downtown has to offer. Roald's home is stylish but homey, the WiFi works great, and the kitchen has everything you could hope to want to use. If we visit Iceland again we will certainly be hoping to stay at Roald's again!
Wonderful apartment in the middle of everything
Thank you, Roald, for a wonderful stay and for being such a responsive host. My wife and our two children enjoyed the apartment and amenities, and loved being able to walk to restaurants, shopping and the local geothermal pool!
Best location, quality home &friendly helpful host
This was my 6th trip to Reykjavik- a bit in love with this vibrant, beautiful city and its people. I've rented places through Homeaway each time and have had overall pleasant experiences, but this trip was extra special. Roald was so kind, helpful, and dedicated to making sure all of my questions and needs were tended to- because of this it made his home seem even homier to me somehow. His home is perfectly located- truly, you are in the middle of everything but because the house is tucked behind other houses you don't hear the noise. It was such a pleasant surprise to have such quiet, save for the songs of morning birds. The location cannot be beat- you are close to bus stop 8 (Hallgrimskirkja) where every tour will pick up and drop off, including the bus from the airport. The best bakery in town is 2 blocks away, Brauđ, and the Bónus grocery store is 1 block away. Excellent restaurants abound in this neighborhood too!
As for the house itself- it is such a clean, smartly decorated, and well organized home. I was really impressed with the layout, and everything that you could need is there. If you like to cook, you will be in heaven. The kitchen is wonderfully set up with quality cooking appliances and utensils, plus an incredible collection of cookbooks. It was such a pleasure preparing meals here- how often can one say that on vacation?!!
It should be mentioned that the stairwell to the bedroom is not for anyone with mobility problems- it is a steep staircase and you must exercise caution. The bedroom is lovely, with a nice deck that allows a peekaboo view of Hallgrimskirkja one way, and the mountains the other. The bed is equipped with a massage feature and the ability to position the bed upright or in various angles. I didn't use it, but it might appeal to some. The bathroom was very nice, with a heated floor and excellent water pressure in the shower. I must mention that this was the first time in my travels that the water did NOT have that sulfurous smell- meant to ask why that was? Obviously not a problem, and perhaps a positive for some.
In summary, this is my favorite place I have ever stayed in Reykjavik. It was a true home away from home and I hope to stay there again in the near future. Thank you, Roald, for everything!
Charming Modern Cottage in the heart of Reykjavik
We thoroughly enjoyed our week stay at this lovely home. It has all the comforts of home and Roald has done a wonderful job remodeling and furnishing the home and he was an absolute pleasure to deal with. From restaurant recommendations to getting us fresh towels, he really does aim to please. Location, location, location! The home is in the center of the city so we walked to all the downtown sights, including the pickups for all the tours. There are restaurants galore all within a few blocks. I highly recommend renting this home. FYI - for anyone who has trouble with stairs, please be aware the bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. Thanks again Roald!
Great Home Great Location
This is a great house. It was perfect for our honeymoon. It is in a great location. It is within walking distance of almost everything in the downtown area. It is also a few minutes away from bus stops 8 and 10, so pick ups/drop offs for tours or the airport are very close.
The house is wonderful and cozy. The downstairs has the kitchen, the bathroom, and living room. The kitchen is very nice. It has everything you could need to cook. The washer/dryer combo is also nice.
Upstairs is the bedroom. The bed is very comfortable and is adjustable. The ceiling can be a bit of an issue for those of us over 6', but it isn't that much trouble. The stairs can also be a little slippery when wearing socks, but the lower rungs have some anti slip tape on them.
The whole house is surrounded by a wonderful deck. It was covered in snow during our visit, but I am sure it would be a great place to sit out on during the summer.
Roald is a great host. He is very accommodating and quickly responds to any questions.
I am so glad we picked this house to stay during our honeymoon. It is in a great location and Roald is a great host. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Whale watching, sailing, shops, antique stores, coffehouses, bars, discos, opera, music hall, galleries, library and a flea market all close by.
