Mansfield House, a lovely and spacious mountain home, sits on 100+ acres of classic Vermont property. Located at the base of Mt. Mansfield and nearby Smugglers Notch, a vacation here is filled with a wide range of seasonal activities for the active and the relaxed.
There are two sleeping areas at opposite ends of the house. Two bedrooms (queen and king beds) are at the northern end of the house, with a shared bathroom featuring a field stone wall, tile, and walk-in shower. The southern end of the house features a bunkroom and 2 queen bedrooms, one with a twin trundle bed. There is a shared bathroom for these rooms, featuring a Vermont slate floor, vessel sink, and tub/shower. Also at this end of the house is the Master bedroom with king Tempur-pedic bed and a large en suite bathroom with walk-in shower and sweeping view of Mount Mansfield. All the bedrooms have been recently renovated and each has lovely linens and quilts.
The interior features cathedral ceilings, a large living room with field stone fireplace, and a field stone wall in the dining area, as well as wide oak and brick floors. Lovely views delight visitors from every window.
An open kitchen/dining area is at the center of the house. The 12-person birdseye maple dining room table has a sweeping view of Mt. Mansfield. This open area is wonderful for group cooking and socializing while enjoying the colors of a magnificent sunset.
There is a den off the kitchen with a second fireplace, sofa bed, and a second TV - nice for movies, cozy chats, or quiet reading. This space is also wonderful for children's movies, board games, or a quick escape from the bustle of the household.
We also take great pride in a very clean house - all the rooms are cleaned professionally using only all natural products.
The outdoor hot tub is available for soaking, while gazing up at Mt. Mansfield, or the stars.
A beautiful field above the pond is suitable for a large tent for hosting family reunions, small weddings, and other events.
The two acre swimming pond, sandy beach, beautifully landscaped lawns and gardens, and walking/XC skiing (or snowshoe) trails offer both activity and quiet, suitable for the energetic and the serene.
Looking for the country life and time with family or friends? You will love this setting.
Two very popular Vermont destinations are close:Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory is 30 minutes away, and the Shelburne Museum, a large and fascinating 'living' museum is 45 minutes away. Lake Champlain, UVM, and St. Michaels College are all within easy reach. Hunting is possible in the area but not on the property please. Space for badminton, croquet, and soccer behind house, visible from kitchen and living room. Large swimming pond in front field.
Built in 1965, Mansfield House is owned by a large Vermont family that enjoys seasonal visits here for hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, and swimming. Our parents/grandparents designed and built the property, and as a result Mansfield House has the feel of a visit to a family home. Photos of the family decorate one long hallway, and the Airplane room hints of the adventurous aviation history of Granddad's days as a pilot. The gardens and clear view to the mountain still reflect the family's love of beautiful outdoor spaces.

The place was great!Really happy with the house and it was plenty big for our group (we didn't even use one of the bedrooms).
We had such a wonderful stay in the house. The house is very tastefully appointed and charming and very clean. It really didn't seem like a rental as it had all sort of nicknacks and books and cookbooks - as if someone really lives there. The kitchen had every sort of cooking utensil you could ever need and in fact it seemed like we were staying at a friend's house rather than a rental. It is located in a quiet lovely spot with mountain and meadow views. Everyone fell in love with the huge black lovable Newfoundland that welcomed us when we arrived. The house is great for two families. We had 4 adults, 2 small children and 6 older teenagers and had more than enough room. The house seems to have 3 sections: two bedrooms on the left side - one with a queen and one with a king - for the adults with a shared bath, which can be closed off from the living room for privacy (or to keep out the noise), a large kitchen and living room section with huge real fireplace, and then another bedroom section on the otherside of the house that sleeps 12 (4 bedrooms and a den with queen pullout couch) - perfect for all the kids to take over that part of the house. The kitchen setup was great for group cooking and chatting. We got all the kids making homemade pizzas around the large center island and they all had a ball. Even our teenagers absolutely loved the house and want to go back - especially for the hot tub and snow rolling at night! Patricia was also so helpful answering questions and even mailing back some shoes we had left there. We all hope to go back next year for a longer stay. Thank you for such a nice memory!
Our group of 13 (ranging in age from 77 down to 5 years old) had a wonderful time at the house. Nicely located in a quiet spot, it is very convenient to the Underhill State Park for hikes (right up the road), and to Stowe and other local areas of interest. The pond is nice for a quick swim, a canoe ride, a conversation with a few frogs (found by the five year old minutes after arrival) or a place to enjoy an evening fire for s'mores. The hot tub got plenty of use after long days out and about and is easy to operate and keep clean.
The house itself is very spacious with plenty of sleeping options for all. The kitchen was nice and spacious for all our cooking adventures and has anything you might need, including a nicely-stocked pantry (so please feel free to leave behind what you don't finish for the next guests, or replace what you may have used out!).
The one caveat would be that the house itself is not air conditioned. The air conditioner unit does a very good job of keeping the living room and kitchen area cool along with the ceiling fans, but the rooms can be a little stuffy in the evening, so the solitary fans and ceiling fans in the rooms come in handy. Mind you, we stayed for the hottest week of the summer, so this was an isolated issue for us. Most nights got cool enough to sleep with windows open, and a little fresh air never killed anybody. :) A winter visit would also allow you to make use of the spacious fireplace in the living area. Bummed we stayed in the summer.
A TV/game room is fully stocked with board games and books as well. More than a few books were pored over during our stay. Some great titles to choose from, and an impressive collection of old National Geographics to boot, if you're a fan.
We had no real issues at all, and on our last day, I reached out to the owner to note a few very minor issues (slow drain in tub, loose screens) and I received a message within hours of our departure that these things were being addressed that day after we left. Overall, a great place to stay and very well-managed.
My one wish? To sit down for a few hours with the owners over cocktails and discuss some of the wonderful family photos that decorate the house. I'm sure there are many tales to be told. Enjoy your stay!

Everything on the listing was spot on, being able to see the highest peak in VT out the window was quite the view. The pond was clean and free of any kind of stagnant goop, just perfect. We did need to call the maintenance people but they were right on it so that is a plus I guess, rest assured if something goes wrong like super heroes they will swoop in to take care of it
We had a great time.
Views of surrounding mountains, especially Mount Mansfield were awesome. We swam in the pond, played capture the flag in the front yard and soccer and whiffle ball in the backyard. We picked berries at Mazza's in Essex Junction (20 minutes) and toured Ben and Jerry's (40 minutes). We made it into Burlington (40 minutes) for half a day. Underhill State Park is only a mile up Mountain rode, making it easy to access trails to the top of Mansfield, which a group of us summited.
Kitchen was excellent and wifi was strong. Phenomenal collection of books to browse and gorgeous flowers planted all around the property. We were 11 but property could have comfortably slept several more
We will be back!!
What a perfect place to have a family gathering! The house was ideal and you cannot beat the location and spectacular views of Mt. Mansfield. The house has a great lay out with ample bedrooms and lots of space for our family of 11 to hang out. Comfortable beds, a great kitchen with everything you need to cook a delicious meal, games to play, a gorgeous back deck to enjoy the sunrise and sunsets, fabulous hiking right up the road, a great pond for dipping and playing in (beach towels provided!), and wonderful hosts who were always quick to respond to the many questions I had while booking. It couldn't have been more perfect and relaxing! I highly recommend the Mansfield house for an excellent vacation at any time of year. Whether you are a large party or small you will have a wonderful Vermont experience in a perfect setting. We'll be back!
Amazingly beautiful home with picturesque views. The backyard has plenty of room for activities, as our group took advantage of the beautiful weather to play numerous lawn games (whiffle ball, corn-hole) and take in some sun. Owners are very accommodating and quick to respond to any questions we had. All 12 of us loved our stay and would highly recommend the Mansfield house to anyone that asks!
The town of Underhill is a relaxing setting for a quiet country vacation or a convenient location for access to skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, swimming, as well as shopping, restaurants, and sightseeing. It can all be done from this spectacular location.
