Enjoy magnificent views from on top of the world in this fully-equipped, delightful and charming home from atop Hanging Rock Mountain. Watch the sun rise OVER the clouds below you as you relax in our hot tub, enjoy a cup of coffee from the deck, or from the comfort of the living room. Fire up the wood-burning stove for those cool nights, or open the windows to let the breeze in on the summer nights.
Honey Bear House is literally walking distance from Hawksnest resort and just minutes from Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk and Valle Crucis. Wanna ski? Check. Wanna hike? Check. Wanna lounge around and do nothing but just relax in the hot tub? You can do that too.
Families will love the location near snowtubing, ziplining, Grandfather Mountain, gem mining and more. But you don't even have to leave; Honey Bear House is equipped with cable TVs, wi-fi, a DVD player and foosball.
Both bedrooms feature Queen beds with all linens. (There are also two Queen sleeper sofas with linens as well.) A fully-equipped kitchen (completely renovated in April 2011) is longing for a gourmet cook's touch. The home also boasts two full baths and an outdoor hot tub, overlooking the wonderful view.
NOTE: A 4WD vehicle is necessary for the winter visits. A view like this doesn't come easy!

We have long enjoyed the beautiful N.C. High Country. We purchased this home so that our growing family can make memories there for a lifetime. We firmly believe you will too in our home.
The Owner purchased this chalet in 2011
The first thing that drew us to this home was its million dollar view. (The hot tub didn't hurt either!)
This home is ideally situated close to EVERYTHING that we love about the area: it's close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, waterfalls, shopping, hiking, skiing, restaurants, quaint towns, Grandfather Mountain (where we can see, in the words of our oldest daughter, 'cute, little bears'), Tweetsie Railroad and so much more.
My husband and I were with 5 children and had a wonderful time. There was plenty of room and our 2 teenagers loved having the downstairs to themselves. Beautiful view and well accommodated. Location is fantastic!!! Only suggestion is to bring your own pillow...they have plenty but each has seen better days
Got my whole family(6) together finally for the Holidays. We rented Honey Bear for the Week after Christmas. Everything was perfect. Clean and very private and roomy....with a breath taking view of the mountains and valley. Hawks nest is right down the hill with snow tubing and zip lining, Grandfather Mountain is 10 minutes away...great location. We will certainly be back.
My kids and I love going there - the view is something to behold. The house is in great shape, and the kids love the foosball table downstairs. It's close to so many awesome attractions and things to do - Tweetsie, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls, Boone, Blowing Rock - but this is one vacation where it's also great to just spend a day on the deck enjoying that view.
We just spent a lovely weekend overlooking the Great Smokey Mountains from the amazing view at the Honeybear House! Enough space for us with our 4 kids and the in-laws! The pack n play was a nice touch for our 3 month old. the hot tub was amazing and the kids enjoyed the foosball table. We spent a lovely day at Tweetsie (~25 mins away), an afternoon in Blowing Rock (~ 30 mins away), Did some hiking on the Otter Trail (~5 mins away) and gem mining nearby(~10 mins away). The finale was a stop at Linville Caverns as we left town (~40 min drive). We will be back!
My husband and I found the Honey Bear House to be perfect for a recent weekend getaway. We loved how quiet, cozy and well-maintained the home is. There are neighbors on both sides, but the house is set up, including the hot tub, in a way that you feel like you';re secluded. The Lail's have created a beautiful home away from home and we felt right at home within minutes. We enjoyed our morning in nearby Banner Elk and our visit to Grandfather Winery, which is literally a few minutes from the house. Kitchen is very well-stocked and there's a grill on the deck so you can enjoy the view while cooking and eating dinner. We look forward to going back and taking the kids and hiking at the new Otter Falls Trail right there at Seven Devils! Thanks, Matt and family, for opening up your home so we could also feel at home on our mini-vacation! Hope to see the Honey Bear House again soon!
This home is very close to Hawksnest snowtubing and zipline - the longest zipline on the East Coast; along with the Blue Ridge Parkway; Grandfather Mountain; Tweetsie Railroad; gem mining; Mystery Hill; Linville Caverns; Blowing Rock; the ski slopes at Appalachian, Sugar and Beech Mountains; Tanger Outlets; the Blowing Rock; Moses Cone Park; Julian Price Park; Christmas tree farms; Appalachian State University; West Jefferson; Mast General Store in Valle Crucis; trout fishing; rafting; Dan'l Boone Inn and other great restaurants; wineries; waterfalls; the Holy Trinity Church frescoes in Glendale Springs; and much, much more.
