About Joseph Hecht

I am a CPA tax preparer. I have my own practice here in Phoenix and have lived here since attending ASU in the 1980's

I already have a few vacation rentals and i do my best to make sure that each rental is a place i would enjoy staying on my holiday. Each year i learn more from my guests and do my best to listen to their recommendations to make my condos even better. I know this is working because now i have lots of repeat guests.

Joseph Hecht purchased this condo in 1999

Why Joseph Hecht chose Kyrene-Superstition

This is an established neigborhood. All homes are single level with only one common wall and sharing of a courtyard. Although they are called condos, they really offer the feel of a single detached family home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed our brief stay at your condo. Everything was so new and clean! The new beds were very comfortable. Thanks, now we want to go home and remodel our home.

A great location

  • 4 of 5

The rental is located in a quiet area and close to everything you need. The kitchen is well stocked and I believe this rental is a great value for the price. The owner is responsive and attended to small issues immediately.

Keep looking

As a seasoned VRBO user, this was a great disappointment for the cost.

PROS: quiet neighborhood, and I did contact the owner who was responsive, although I couldn't call him for everything. He was a little condescending - his normal tone? or because I am a female?

CONS: Depending on your arrival (I think) you may have to drive through the neighborhood to find the right driveway to your covered parking. The main access from the road is chained off most of the time. Also, I don't believe I remember it being marked on which was your covered parking, we based it on what car was there when we left and returned.

No book or directions within property of the responsibilities of the renter... garbage, recycling (what is recycled? laundry, etc.. I did what I felt appropriate based on other properties with the understanding that I did pay a cleaning fee.

The property is run down with some rushed attempts to repaint (poorly done with painter's tape still there).

Beds are very uncomfortable, and the twin bed has a broken/loose outlet with no cover right up against the bed.

Plan to eat out unless you pick up bread for toast... easy breakfast/meal stuff. Limited pans to cook as well as limited glassware for coffee or beverages.

A few lights with no covers on them...the Nest thermostat appeared as though it was manipulated from an internet connection...It never stayed where we set it and we would be freezing or sweating.

As stated earlier, I have stayed in many VRBO properties and they always have a feel of the owner who took pride in creating a space that was like home... a place they would live in with all the comforts of a real home, not just to make money. Just was not a warm and cozy place. It felt like a cheap hotel.

I am positive that the response from the owner will not be very supportive of my review - I did have to call him on 2 things and although responsive... not caring.

I also took photos in case anything is disputed.

Owner's Response: We always appreciate comments (positive or negative) that’s how we improve our unit every year. Negative comments are taken seriously and we will respond knowing you can’t please everyone all the time. (If you have issue, I accept, but do not try to extort favors for favorable reviews as some guests have tried) The nice quiet neighborhood is an attraction, and access to parking is limited to the guests. ( for your safety ) Garbage and recycle collection units a clearly and universally marked. Not sure why this was an issue for a guest staying five days. Property was nicely renovated and remodeled two years ago. Pictures clearly present this. (Laminate flooring, tile in baths, new appliances ) Not sure why guest took issue with my modern furniture and appliances. All mattresses were purchased from Macys furniture department and bed platforms purchased from Copenhagen furniture on Camelback, we have now purchased 3” mattress toppers to help increase comfort. All linens are Macys top of the line Hotel collection 800 count. Once again, not sure why guest took issue for five days stay. Guest did have trouble with pool key. It is the only oversized key hanging in kitchen. Sorry I did not label it, as we thought is was self explanatory. Wifi key code is purposely long and does take careful keying for proper access, but should not be too difficult if you take an extra moment to key very carefully. Kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots, pans, silverware, cutting boards, knives, coffee makers, etc and every device necessary for a nice dinner as many of my prior guests have enjoyed. We did have a broken wine glass, but new glasses have now replaced the old. Once again, not sure why this guest took issue. remember: if you need something extra, just ask, I am happy to provide, as it helps all future guest. Like I said, can’t please all the people all the time. But we really try!

Nice, but needs attention and consideration.

  • 3 of 5

This home was conveniently located in Tempe near ASU, shopping, great attractions, and airport. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the gate code upon my arrival- very inconvenient- but the owner called back within a few minutes of my initial call. The welcome manual was poorly put together; not a great first impression, and did not include check-out instructions. We were disappointed that the drain in the main bath was clogged, which meant that we all had to use the master bathroom; which by the way was very nice. The two of the three beds were also uncomfortable and noisy, and extra pillows (or nicer quality) would have been nice. Overall, the rental was affordable and clean..but a lack of attention/care was obvious.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. All are welcome. That is how we are able to improve for the next guest. All lock box codes are sent in a secure email once payment has been received. You must read your emails or call before arrival. The welcome manual does have all of my telephone numbers to contact me, along with all of my repairmen if you can not reach me. Unfortunately my guest chose to live with the plumbing problem rather than call me or the plumber. The problem is now fixed. All linens are from the Macy's Hotel collection. We try to put the best quality in, but sometimes guests are more used to their own linens and can not be satisfied although we try. We ask that you still think of us for your next holiday and we will do our best to accommodate you. :-)

Lovely place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was absolutely wonderful overall. The place was very clean and relaxing. The beds were OK, and the kitchen had many great amenities. There were just a few oddities to be aware of if you stay. We did not know that there was a hide-a-bed in the blue coach the first night, which would have been very helpful to know about. In addition, it would have been helpful to know that there was toilet paper in one of the bedroom closets. A standard thing to have on hand would be coffee, but that was not provided, so be aware! Finally, the only spatula was for a grill, so making eggs was a challenge. These are petty, but something to plan for, so just a heads up. The owner was responsive and the place is great for the price. Do not hesitate to stay!!
