About Donna Brucato

We live on the mainland but love to come to our home as often as we can. It has such a quiet wonderful feel.

Donna Brucato purchased this house in 2011

Why Donna Brucato chose Kohala Coast

We have vacationed at Mauna Kea and Hapuna Beach for years and love this part of Hawaii best. We have always wanted to own a home here and finally had the opportunity to purchase this beautiful home.

What makes this house unique

This home is very private, with only one other house on the north side. Two sides of the house have a green belt of native plants. Wonderful sweeping views of the ocean and coast line both to the north and south. We grow organic papaya and banana trees bearing fruit most of the year for our clients. There are also a variety of citrus and pineapple in season. Lovely lanai along entire west side of the house with teak lounges and tables and chairs. New gas grill for outdoor meals. Enjoy the sunsets from the great room, lanai or swimming pool and spa.

If you choose the amenity package, you can enjoy the same amenities we do at both hotels--including reduced fees for golf at both Mauna Kea and Hapuna, tennis at the seaside courts at Mauna Kea, beach and pool access at both hotels (including beach towels, lounge chairs and umbrellas).

Perfect location, incredible pool

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible stay at this house over Christmas and New Year's. The layout of the house is perfect, with 3 rooms which I would basically call masters. This was great for our family which included 3 generations of couples (30 yo, 55yo, and 80 yo), no one ended up with a 'bad' room. This has definitely been a problem for us in the past, finding a house with 3 rooms which all have large beds and their own large bathoom/closet is definitely difficult. The 'Ohana' Suite was great as it afforded us a bit more privacy being disconnected from the rest of the house, but not too far at all. One story also made it really easy for our elderly guests.

Another great benefit is the ability to use the facilities at the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince hotels (this was for an additional fee, but very modest when compared to the cost of the rest of the vacation, and definitely worth it). They are just down the road, not very walkable (distance wise is not bad but it is up a pretty steep hill) but valet is free and parking is included, so no big deal. We ate at a few of the restaurants there and they were great. The beach at both hotels was really nice and you don't have to bring anything down with you because you are provided with chairs and towels. We didn't spend too much time there though because the pool and house was so incredible.

Within a relatively short drive (<15 minutes) you also have access to a number of restaurants at some of the other resorts. As long as you are eating there valet parking is free, so it is really easy. There is also a Foodland fairly close, easy for making the occasional grocery run.

For the golfers, Donna is a platinum member and as a guest at one of her houses you get special rates at the Hapuna and Mauna Kea golf courses. The discount was pretty significant, making the golf a bit more affordable.

If you are hesitant on the Big Island (which we were a little) I say go for it! We liked it more than our past stays in Honolulu. Not as many people, but plenty to do. We saw the volcanos, did an ATV tour, snorkeled, and relaxed. Additionally I think it one of the warmest and driest parts of any of the islands. During our stay it seemed to be raining every else, except where we were. All in all it was an incredible stay and we are ready to go back next year!

So Comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

The home was very comfortable. We had everything we needed and it was absolutely beautiful! We loved the view of the ocean, pool, golf course, and fruit trees. It was breathtaking! We also loved that the home was equipped with everything we needed such as linens, dishes, and many of the basics. The beds were super comfortable and the home was very spacious. Our boys loved the pool and we are so glad we had a heated hot tub. We also enjoyed both resorts and the activities there. We did not want to leave because we enjoyed it so much. We would love to come back again someday!

Great Family Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

This home is the perfect place to have a large party stay all in one place. We normally stay in hotels, but having planned this vacation last minute we didn't want to stay in a high-priced hotel. It was great all being in one location where we can hang out together in the living room. The convenience of a pool was also great if we wanted to go for a dip. The home was clean and comfortable. Close to many beautiful beaches and parking at the resorts and the home was a bonus. I would definitely recommend to friends.

Wonderful Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (two adults, three children ages 15, 11 and 8) stayed at this lovely home for ten days at the end of June. The home is perfectly laid out with wonderful views from the living area, bedrooms and patio. The home including the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The kids absolutely loved the pool. We opted to pay for privileges at the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Beach resorts. Everything was seamless with our use of the resorts and it was well worth it to have homeowner access (i.e. parking privileges) to their beaches (two of the best beaches on the island) and golf facilities. Donna, the homeowner, and the rental company were both wonderful to work with. We had an issue with the ac while there, but the management company worked diligently to take care of it and all issues were ultimately resolved to our satisfaction. This is a great house for families in a very private and peaceful location. We truly enjoyed our time here and look forward to returning some day.

Perfect Vacation House

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house, which is well designed, well-maintained, comfortably and nicely decorated and well-supplied with everything we needed: an excellent kitchen, a full laundry room, a big lanai with lots of good seating and a beautiful and fantastic always-WARM pool thanks to excellent solar panels. The rooms are spacious and lovely, including two large bedrooms with king-sized beds and en-suite bathrooms with tubs and stall showers (plus one with an outdoor shower). There is also a large ohana (separate entrance) with twin beds and its own bath and kitchenette. The house has many thoughtful touches that make it an especially nice place to stay: big walk-in closets in all bedrooms; a wonderful bonus sitting room with loungers for watching TV and movies; extra supplies for the kitchen and laundry; roller shades on the windows for the afternoon sun; plenty of pool and beach toys; very high-speed internet. The home has panoramic ocean views that never get old, and a great location near Mauna Kea. Donna did a super job taking care of us and the house, and we definitely want to return soon.
