About the property

The Creekside Chalet is a vintage log cabin, in immaculate condition, situated creekside, on our amazing and unique parcel of land in the small mountain town of Silvergate.

PLEASE NOTE: We have a 4 night minimum 5 night minimum in the Peak Summer season. If we have a shorter gap created between stays, we would entertain a shorter stay. thanks !!

This vintage log home has mountain charm with modern conveniences. It's bright and sunny, with large windows, wood floors, and a great 'fool's gold' fireplace! There's 2 bar chairs if you like to hang out in the kitchen, or a fabulous and comfortable dining room table set. The living room is super comfy, with a couch, easy chair, and a large rocking chair and a DVD player with a nice size screen. We do have a bluetooth sound bar if you bring music. Due to our remote location, with overhead power lines in the forest, power can go out several times during the summer. We have installed one of the area's few Whole-house back up generators which will allow all lights, appliances and water heaters to continue to run.

The cabin sits conveniently just off the highway on its large lot, with 2 rows of evergreen trees in front for privacy. The sunny, West side has a large lawn with an amazing sitting area RIGHT NEXT to the Soda Butte Creek, as well as a mature stand of lodgepole pine trees in the back yard. We have a firepit next to the creek if you like to roast marshmallows! (The Area often has fire restrictions later in the summer)

You can enjoy fishing right from the yard! There's also a huge grassy town park right across the street.

The home has great views of the surrounding mountains. You can often see mountain goats to the south, and mountain sheep to the north at the same time! The king size bed has huge views of a snow capped peak all summer, and the sound of the creek comes in the west window. The large bedroom also has 2 twin size beds in it. The bedroom is on the south side of the home with great windows looking at the mountains, trees and creek.

This is a fantastic setting for a Yellowstone experience you'll always remember. The little town of Silvergate itself is very charming and you are close to the Lamar Valley, the best place in the Park to view wildlife. Also, the Beartooth Pass to Red Lodge Montana is, according to legendary news anchor Charles Kuralt 'the most spectacular road in America'! There are several hiking trails from the cabin, and 4 different creeks with waterfalls all a 30 min hike or less. Silvergate also has a couple of cafes, general stores, and gift shops. There are several lodges in our little town as well.

We look forward to hosting you and your family !!

About John and Kate Mickus

John, Kate and Emily Mickus live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They are avid outdoors enthusiasts and love the Silvergate area!! 'This is the place we go from Jackson Hole to find adventure and wilderness! We love to provide a warm and comfortable experience for our guests!' The cabin is leased and managed by John and Kate's corporation, Selah Montana, Inc.

John and Kate Mickus purchased this house in 1975

Why John and Kate Mickus chose Silver Gate

We love the Northeast corner of Yellowstone. This area is inspiring to us with its towering peaks up close to the town, and the abundance of wild animals! It is truly a place to connect with nature, and to enjoy some really nice folks as well!

What makes this house unique

We have the most unique setting in the valley. Our large parcel of land right in the middle of Silvergate has both big views and sunshine as well as the sounds and delight of the creek running through!

Silvergate is a small recreational community uniquely situated adjacent to Yellowstone Park. Many activities and amenities are available right from the front door! You feel like you're in the wilderness but have the comfort of a small town. Ice Cream, wine and cheese, elk chili, or milk and bread are available from one of the two general stores. The Log Cabin Cafe is fabulous and much of its menu is organic.

Maybe Our Best Vacation Ever

  • 5 of 5

We stayed one week at the end of September and had the time of our lives. The cabin was perfectly cozy, with a kitchen that had everything needed to prepare most of our meals for the week. The wood-burning stone fireplace is unique and very interesting and is clearly the heart of the home. There was plenty of firewood and starter for it. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom was spotless (as was the whole house), and there were baseboard heaters throughout which made getting out of the shower comfy on cold mornings. John and Kate were very easy to work with and responded quickly to my emails. The property managers stay next door and are super friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. They made our trip extra special with tips about where to find bugling elk and just friendly conversation. Lovely yard and fire pit right on the creek, which we used in the mornings with our coffee and tea. One of our favorite hikes was on the trail that starts near the cabin and goes into the park. There was bison scat and we're pretty sure bear scat too. The cabin's location near Lamar Valley was perfect for us.

The towns of Cooke City and Silver Gate are adorable and we will definitely be back. Across the street from the cabin is the general store where we highly, highly advise renting a spotting scope if seeing wildlife at the park is a main activity for you. It made all the difference for us since many animals may only be viewed a mile off the road. Thanks to it we could see coyote, wolves and bear. The owner and staff of the store are personable and we loved dealing with them. Restaurants in town were good. Yelp was helpful in viewing menus to find vegetarian food and overall what to expect. Drive the Beartooth scenic highway if you have time.

The weather can vary greatly, so be prepared for anything. Rain gear is important. The first few days of our visit was about 80 degrees farenheit, and the last day had 4" of snow on the ground and high of 30. The park was breathtaking in the snow! Snow plows kept everything drive-able. Know that parts of the park begin closing down in September (like the marina).

We flew into Bozeman, MT and rented a car, bear spray, and a cooler from Explore Rentals. They pick you up from the airport and take you to the rental lot a few miles away. Excellent service, and excellent vehicle! We will do this again next time. It's a three hour drive to Silver Gate, and the park is just one mile from the cabin.

Very cute log cabin. Very appropriate for the setting.

Quaint, comfortable, terrific setting to access the Northeast portion of Yellowstone National Park very easily. Relaxing by a roaring fire while reading a great book after hiking all day in the park was fantastic! The restaurant next door was equally as adorable, with good food, and next door to the restaurant was a gift store with yummy ice cream. The mountains surrounding the town were spectacular, as were the stars at night. I thought I could reach out and touch them!

Kate was great to work with. She made there reservation effortless. Thanks, Kate!!!

Best lodging in Silver Gate

  • 5 of 5

Loved the comfort and convenience of the Creekside Chalet. Only two miles from the entrance to Yellowstone. Enjoyed relaxing beside the creek. Right next door to the Log Cabin Cafe which has awesome desserts. Travel to Cooke City and pick up whatever you need at the General Store. Excellent steak and brats. Very comfortable and relaxing week.
