MY wife and I are in our mid 60's and reside in Traverse City, MI. She is a retired special ed teacher and I am actively involved in the oil and gas exploration business
Bernard Stover purchased this villa in 1999
We chose Playa Del Carmen for four reasons
1. Short travel time from the US
2. Unique Mayan culture
3. Diving in Cozumel
4. Terrific ambiance of Playa Del Carmen
Our home provides several private outdoor areas for those times when privacy is desired. the unique design and layout provides access to all of the bedrooms without having to go through central areas. The patio/courtyard with its talavera fountain has complete privacy from neighboring villas.
The Perfect Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday for a stay in July 2014 NEW
This is possibly the best choice for a vacation stay in the Mayan Riviera when traveling with friends. Bernie is wonderful as is his neighbor and friend Victor.
Casa Alcazar's property manager Ulla Meibohm is second to none. She helped us with all the arrangements. There were snacks and drinks
I highly recommend this rental in Playacar phase II. The location is convenient and safe. It's a gated area and you feel the surrounding is a peaceful community. Above all, the manager Leonor took a great care of us. She is very communicative and responded to all our request and inquiry in a timely manner. We also got helpful information of local restaurants and tourism guides. They came in handy for us. In addition, the maid service has been great and she was there everyday to clean the yard and cook for you at your request. We will come back!
We came to Playa del Carmen for our son's wedding in a nearby all-inclusive resort. Our party consisted of my wife and I, our two daughters' families (with three children under age 3) and another son. Resorts and children really don't mix so this place worked out well. Ulla, the property manager was great at giving us advise on logistics (she arranged for private transportation from airport for 5 different trips). Gladys, the housekeeper, also is a chef and cooked three dinners for us (she supplies the groceries, cooks and cleans up). The kitchen is well equipped. A dozen other nice properties surround a shared pool and tennis court. The beach is a couple blocks away via a locked gated approach and the resort row starts a block away. Taxis can be hailed on the street outside the front door for shopping sprees at nearby Walmart or Mexican markets.
This place is better than the property description. Fans and A/C in each room. We had 10 for dinner one night. Great patio for breakfast, coffee or afternoon beer. Property contains a pavilion that one could entertain 100 people.Floors are tile and stairs and upper common area are open so rain will cause slipperiness.
Property as described
We had wonderful .time with our traveling empty nesters group of 8 adults .
Ulla the house manager was amazing to work with ,greeted us when we arrived with a nice meal after we had been traveling all day. Checked on us regularly and always responded to any questions or concerns.
Thanks again for a week in paradise.
Stayed Feb 24th 2016
The home we stayed in was centrally located and provided easy walking access to Playa Del Carmen.
We had 4 children under 5 with us - the youngest was 2. There are many stairs in this home
that could prove dangerous to younger children but our children were not allowed to play on the stairs.
When it rains the stairs are open to the elements and the tiles became dangerous and slippery. During an
exceptionally heavy rain we had water in the upper master bedroom.
The five bedrooms offered wonderful privacy if we needed it. The kitchen/dining area
was nice in the morning as it is far away from the sleeping areas and so being quiet
was not an issue. The main floor bedroom bath plumbing needs updating. The twin
beds were uncomfortable - new mattresses are needed.
Ulla was our contact while in this home and was accessible via text messaging. We used the app called
whatsapp and loved it. Anything that needed attention in the home was immediately resolved.
Large bottles of water were provided and left in the driveway - what a bonus! Also toilet paper, paper
towels, and bottles of hand soap. So nice to have these amenities.
We used the cook twice. The guacamole and hot sauces were exceptional as was the fish she prepared. Our family for the most part likes to cook and the kitchen area was pretty well equipped with what we needed. We would have liked cookie sheets.
A restaurant not to be missed is Alux Caverna - http://aluxrestaurante.com
Walmart has a great selection of fresh foods, liquor and much more. We walked
and took a taxi back to the home.
The pool is not heated. I am sure in hot weather it is wonderful but during
our stay the weather was unseasonably cool and the pool was not tempting.
The tennis court was a good bonus but could use resurfacing.
We really enjoyed our stay here. We had 10 people and we very comfortable at the home. We had 4 young kids (5 and younger) so the stairs were a little concerning at first but no one fell. The property manager was on top of everything so I was very impressed by that!
We gathered our family from around the US for a wonderful week at Christmas. The house was very comfortable for 10. The property manager was very responsive and helpful and the housekeeper cooked for us. Everyone was friendly and accomadating!
