Aunt Muriel came to Kanab to visit her sister in the 30’s, married a cowboy named Billy, and never left. In the 70’s she built her dream house on the same block as her sister, Ida Riggs, owner of the Cross R Ranch House (Wonderful Historic Craftsman Bungalow).
The one story Comfortable Brick Rambler, newly renovated, consists of three bedrooms, two with queens and one with twins, located two blocks from downtown Kanab. It also has two baths, a laundry, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. The living room has newly installed hardwood floors, a wood burning fireplace, a flat screen television and a DVD player. There are comfy sofas to relax on and movies to enjoy.
The yard is fully fenced and landscaped and has a patio on which our guests can barbecue. Muriel was a prize winning gardener and the yard still reflects her touch.
Kanab is a perfect base from which to explore Southern Utah. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary are just a few of the many scenic areas to visit. A special time to visit Kanab is during Western Legends Roundup usually the last weekend in August.
Owners are Dianne and Lynn Riggs, residents on Minnesota and co-owners of the Cross R Ranch House (Wonderful Historic Craftsman Bungalow). They bought the house in 2007 from Muriel’s estate.
For large groups, consider renting the Cross R Ranch House (HomeAway 293990) in addition to Muriel’s Place. They are on the same block, one house apart.

Kanab is a great place to stay and visit Best Friends Animal Society, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, and Escalate Staircase National Monument.
Muriel's Place is a well equipped rambler style home with hardwood floors in the Living room, Kitchen, Dining area. It has carpet in the Bedrooms and tile in the Bathrooms and Laundry area.
This was a great house that had everything we needed. The only reason we didn't give it a 5 is that the mattresses were a little firm for our taste and it was a little challenging to access the key.( We realize you can't please everyone.) Otherwise, the fenced-in and mostly private yard with the grill out back were very convenient and comfortable. We enjoyed having coffee in the am shade before the hot sun covered the entire yard. The location couldn't have been more convenient. Also, the ability to have a sleepover dog from Best Friends was certainly appreciated. We would definitely stay again!
Everything about this house was perfect! Great location, just a few blocks from town. Perfect while volunteering at Best Friends. The fenced in yard is a real plus since we had a sleepover dog with us each night. Loved it! Will definitely stay there again next year.
This was my second time staying at Muriel's place. It's the perfect size for three adults and a couple of dogs. The yard is beautiful and we spent a lot of time out there. The house is well equipped and tidy, and there was nothing we needed that we couldn't find. The location is terrific - just a few blocks one direction to the new drug store or Rockin V and a few blocks the other way to the grocery store, Three Bears ice cream and Best Friends town center. The only complaint I have is the beds are pretty hard and uncomfortable, and I went home with a pretty good crick in my neck from our week there. Some egg crate pads would probably do the trick. Other than that, a great stay.
Second stay- appreciate how clean and neat the house is-
Certainly enjoyed the new fridge-
Also appreciated the internet connection as I needed
to stay in touch with my office.
Like the location, you can walk to stores/restaurants
Back yard is nice, good to sit out there and have
coffee or a glass of wine.
would recommend to friends and family
This home had everything we needed from kitchen, laundry, and a back yard lawn for my dog to roll on. It's walking distance (a few blocks) to everything - Visitor Center, Post Office, Groceries, Museums, Shopping, Restaurants, churches, hikes (many great hikes right in town!)
As friend said, "It's like staying at your Mom's house only your Mom's not home." Hope to return!
We had a nice visit to Kanab and stay at Muriel's Place. The home is not a good fit for large dogs because the fence is very short on the sides and would be easy for a leap over. The grass was very long in the backyard and there was moldy cheese in the fridge we had to throw out when we arrived. The home could have had a few things like those details and others take care of before we arrived. However, it is a nice home and we did enjoy our time.
