Gouverneur Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

This log cabin is named Whispering Water because of the scenic water fall views of the Oswegatchie River from the living room, master bed room and deck.

Hardwood floors throughout. Large master bedroom with queen bed and picture windows facing the river. 2 small bedrooms, each with double bed. Air conditioning both levels.

The swimming pool and deck are perched at the river's edge. The porch overlooking the pool and river is screened for sitting out at night. A 2 person hot tub on the deck is available year round.

Explore the northcountry with day trips to the Adirondacks, 1000 Islands, Ottawa or Kingston Ontario. (If you plan to go to Canada, remember your passport or enhanced driver's license.)

Or just kick back with a good book and relax to the sounds of the river.

Lakes with public boat access are located in the area. We will provide a canoe and accessories for those would like to explore local lakes and rivers. Bring your fishing poles.

Amish farms and shops are numerous in Saint Lawrence County.

If you enjoy road biking, you can ride from the cabin on miles of rural country roads that are lightly traveled. We can guide you with routes from 2 to 40+ miles that wander thru the countryside.

In addition, 4 colleges are located nearby:

25 miles to Canton (Canton College, Saint Lawrence University)

35 miles to Potsdam (Potsdam College, Clarkson University)

Staying at Whispering Water is unique way for the family to be together during visits to the colleges for graduations or special events.

It is 20 miles to Fort Drum if you are considering a visit that doubles as a vacation for the family.

The property is offered for rent all four seasons. Fall colors are brilliant with many maples trees in view. During a winter retreat the pellet stove provides penetrating warmth. Winter is a wonderful time to relax and reflect.

The cabin gives a deep woods feel while being close to a small town.

A word of caution:

Since the property is surrounded on 3 sides by rapid water and steep rock ledges that drop to the water's edge, we do not encourage visitors staying at the cabin with very young children. Close supervision near the river and at the pool is a must.

Breathtaking Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been traveling together for 6 years now. From Missouri, to Colorado, to Arkansas, to New York, we have enjoyed the many wonders that America has to offer. Whispering Water Cabin is the #1 place we have EVER stayed at! From the breathtaking views of the falls, to the cabin-feel interior/exterior, to the wonderful hospitality of the owners, we were amazed at the experience. The cabin was equipped with internet that worked AWESOMELY, the fridge was full of all sorts of condiments, milk, bread, water, eggs, etc., the cupboards were filled with dishes, pots & pans, canned & boxed goods, and cooking/leftover supplies, and there were graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolates for s'mores! We found all sorts of information for local restaurants, as well as coupons for pizza delivery and such, all bundled up in one area for our convenience. The beds were very comfortable and the closets were full of board games for indoors and life jackets/paddles/etc for outdoors. The screened-in porch (sunroom) was the best place to chill/relax, while listening to the soothing sounds of the falls. Oh, and the pool and hot tub were additional bonuses!! We recommend this place to ANYONE who is looking for a little slice of heaven, when vacationing. We will definitely be back, if Jeanice & Ted will have us. You two thought of EVERYTHING when it comes to making someone feel at home. :) Thank you for such a memorable vacation!!!

Whispering waters is a little slice of heaven! From the surroundings of the property to the inside of the cabin, you can't ask for more. Jeanice gives the utmost care in preparing the cabin for your arrival. You will walk in and feel at home immediately. It is spotless! Jeanice goes above and beyond. The attention to every detail ...phenomenal!! They have a Garmin already programed with many local places and points of interest to visit. There are also informational books and maps to browse through. We explored Alex Bay and Clayton which is only @ 45mins drive. If you enjoy fishing, Payne Lake was a nice spot to cast a line or two. We caught Northern Pike there. We also had the great pleasure of getting to know our gracious guest. They are simply a joy to visit with. The remainder of our stay we enjoyed relaxing at Whispering Water, listening to the water, watching the birds and doing a little photography.

This trip was a surprise 30th Anniversary gift from our children and parents. I've already booked a return weekend in October. We will absolutely come back to Whispering Water again and again!! You won't regret staying at Whispering Water cabin.

Absolutely incredible. The reviews on this already say it all -- the cabin is cozy and inviting and hard to leave! The view is so beautiful and the constant sound of crashing water is so relaxing. Jeanice has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and wonderful. We went with our two teens and even they couldn't stop raving. Looking forward to finding a way to get back to the cabin sometime in the near future. Got to try out that pool!

A PERFECT honeymoon!!

  • 5 of 5

Whispering Waters is the perfect place to unwind and get away from it all! Our hosts literally thought of everything. We could have easily brought absolutely nothing but ourselves and the wine. We will be back to enjoy this very special and unique destination. We left feeling like we were party of the family, and came back after Jeanice called to let me know I had left my wedding ring behind!!! We bought some of Miss Willy's knitted fingerless gloves and got to meet her, too! These folks are simply a joy to rent from!!!

Breath taking views and Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was beautiful and instant relaxation. The views from every window were amazing! It was very peaceful and romantic for our little get away from our busy lives. It was a close drive to Alex Bay and Clayton. Jeanice and Ted are so welcoming and have thought of everything! Can't wait to plan our next trip there!

The cabin is completely perfect, very clean and has a lovely cottage garden.

The river rolling by is mesmerizing and beautiful. We did not want to leave.

Car: necessary

'Nearby' is a relative term. We have not listed skiing, but within 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive there is skiing at Titus Mountain, Tupper Lake, Turin, Dry Hill, Whiteface. A Snowmobiling trailhead is within a 15 minute drive. Great museums in Ottawa, 1 1/2 hr away. Movie theaters are 1/2 hour away. A nice 9 hole golf course is just up the road. Ice fishing anyone?
