I am a photographer living in New York. I grew up in Faro and Algarve is my home, no matter how far I travel or how long I stay away.
Dulce Pereira purchased this villa in 2011
Casa da Encosta offers a relaxing setting, away from the crowded touristic areas, and an authentic experience of the Algarve. At the same time, it is close enough to the seashore and its easy to go to the beach everyday, if you are as much of a beach lover as I am.
I renovated Casa da Encosta completely and I made sure to use local materials and fixtures, including locally-made terracotta floor tiles and custom-made carpentry work.
Things I love about Casa da Encosta: the birds chirping, the sheep that walk past my door with their shepard, all the sunlight coming through the windows, the almond tree flowers in the spring, the stars in the sky in the warm summer nights, grilling fish and peppers outside, relaxing by the fireplace in the cold winter nights, seeing plants grow in the vegetable garden, hiking the surrounding hills.
The house is exactly as described in the add. Impeccable and welcoming. Dulce is super nice and helpful making our stay unforgettable. The place is incredible surrounded by real and exquisite natural beauty. I strongly recommend.
Dulce is an amazing person, so friendly and kind that it´s impossible not to like him at 1st sight. Very cult and interested, Loyal, generous and respectful, she´s an amazing host, who will provide with the best possible experience.
Une maison avec tout le confort nécessaire dans un environnement calme... La mer et les belles plages d'Algarve ne sont pas loin...
Dulce prend beaucoup de temps pour expliquer les choses et est fort sympathique...
Very friendly house, beautiful and comfortable, located between the coast and the mountains, between the east and west of Algarve, perfect for relaxing in a peaceful setting and for exporing the region.
The central location allowed us to enjoy a holiday that oscillated between some more quite days, spent strolling through the countryside, lazing on the villa’s terraces and garden and dining under the stars, and some more active days spent exploring the coast, the beaches and the beautiful villages of the Algarve. The location is perfect as a base point to enjoy and explore the region.
The villa has a pleasant atmosphere and lots of space.
It was a real pleasure spending our holidays in this villa!
The Algarve region is so beautiful and so convenient to get to from our house in London that my family and I decided to rent the house for a much needed winter break in the sun away from the rumble of the city.
Though it was a bit early in the year to fully enjoy the beach, we still went on for long walks in the countryside, day trips to nearby villages, gorged on food, and more importantly, relaxed. The house is in the hills, but it's no so remote that you feel unsafe or totally cut off from civilisation - there's even a local supermarket a couple of miles away.
We had everything we needed (especially high speed internet for the kids!). The house is both traditionally Portuguese (loved the kitchen cabinets) and modern, which makes for a very charming interior design where you can easily feel at home.
We enjoyed a fantastic holiday at Casa da Encosta last summer.
The house is wonderful, completely renovated, clean, pleasant and comfortable. The feeling I had when I arrived was think that that's still much better than the pics of the web!
It is very well located because it is near the highway and the main tourist spots, but at the same time in a quiet place, surrounded by nature, ideal for walking and short hiking to the surrounding hills, (from where you can see the whole coastline), or visit small typical Portuguese villages.
We use the house as a base of operations for visiting the whole coast of the Algarve, where each site has its particularity and its magic (we buy the freshest fish at Olhao's market, we enjoy the narrow streets of Tavira, we walk around Faro, we took the ship at Estoi, we went to swim to the island of Farol or we collected shells at the Culatra island, in a superb holidays!) .
The house has all the amenities, perfect for families or groups. The rooms are large and the space invites you to rest . And if , as in my case , you can not disconnect from everything, the house also has wireless internet connection.
Of course we enjoyed the barbecue outside, where every night under the stars was the most pleasant of our intense holidays!
Recommended? Absolutely! hundred percent!
Casa da Encosta is a villa nestled in the Algarve countryside.
Located in a quite and relaxing area, away from the vacationing crowds, the villa is perfect for exploring the Ria Formosa delta and its amazing labyrinth of islands, lagoons and beaches, as well as the surrounding countryside, doted with almond and olive trees and charming small towns.
This is a self-catering villa and car hire is essential.
The villa is located 30 minutes way from Faro’s International Airport and about the same distance from the closest beaches (Olhão, Faro, Fuzeta).
There is a small local restaurant about two kilometers away and a local small supermarket about three kilometers away.
The closest town is Estoi, approximately five kilometers away (3 miles). Estoi is a charming small town in the foothills of Serra do Caldeirão. The town is also graced with two architectural wonders: the Palácio de Estói (a neo-classical palace) and the Milreu Roman ruins. The town is also known for its monthly market (where you can find almost anything, including fresh produce from nearby farmers) and its equestrian traditions. In Estoi you can also find a supermarket, ATM machines, a post office, and a pharmacy.
Olhão, the most important fish port in Eastern Algarve, is located less than 10 kilometers away (6 miles). Its cobbled streets wind through the Moorish-looking old town to the waterfront, with its sparkling views over the Ria Formosa lagoons, where the daily local market is located (fruit, vegetables, meat, deli, as well as an incredible variety of fish and sea food). From the pier, you can take boats to the beautiful beaches of Armona, Culatra and Farol – all great day trips.
Faro, some 15 kms away (9 miles), is the administrative capital of the Algarve but its walled town is still intact and features architectural styles from many centuries. Downtown has many charming buildings and is home to a cobbled pedestrian shopping area complete with terrace cafés and restaurants. There are two theatres, both with good mixed programs of plays, music and dance. Ferries from outside the walled town take you across the lagoons of the Ria Formosa Natural Park to the beaches of Farol, Ilha Deserta and Ilha de Faro (there is also car access to Ilha de Faro).
Other nearby charming towns that deserve one, or several, visits are Tavira, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, and Cacela.
The villa’s location is ideal for hiking the surrounding hills, where you can explore the local wild flora and the ocean views, and enjoy bird watching.
