Stayed here with 4 other couples for NYE weekend, and the house exceeded all our expectations! Unfortunately we weren’t able to explore much on the gorgeous property because of the massive cold front that weekend (-10 burrrrr!). BUT, the home was kept nice and warm with the wood stove. Only about a half hour from gunstock, to fulfill your skiing needs. I highly recommend!
Want to move in!
Everything was pristine, spotless, and much more than we expected. We were there with several extended family members for a weekend of wedding festivities in October and only wish we could have stayed longer, relaxed more, and taken advantage of all that was available on the property and in the area. As much as we lamented that we were farther away from the action (and the bride and groom) than we would have liked, the remoteness of this location also made it special.
Bedrooms were very roomy yet cozy, comfortable, and so beautifully decorated. Bathrooms tiny but private, CLEAN, and complete with towels. The kitchen was fully equipped with gadgets, every type of pan for cooking, condiments and spices. (I had brought food and fixins from home for each meal--good thing as store was 20+ minutes away after we found it). Lots of laughs in the family room with wood stove warming us and in the gazebo playing cards (and drinking games) on a warmer day. Even tasteful seasonal decorations on porch and throughout the house made it feel like home---I only wish it WAS my home!
Bucolic country setting with the feel of times past
This peaceful historic property with farm fields and woodland walks was perfect for our family summer get together. It has 5 spacious bedrooms 5 bathrooms, a big dining room, living room, and kitchen with modern appliances. We gathered on the roomy front porch for morning coffee and evening appetizers and wine and casual suppers. In fact the porch was where we spent most of our time. The tart apples were ready for tasting in the small orchard behind the house. Deer and turkeys were close by in the fields.
The field surrounding the house was perfect for kicking around a soccer ball and throwing a frisbee. We toasted marshmallows around the fire pit and sang songs. The private access road made for a very safe play space for children. We walked the many paths carefully marked on a map by Jill and Cindy. The town of Alton and Alton Bay is 15 minutes away where there is swimming in Lake Winnepesaukee and a choice of dining options. We climbed Mount Major, a small peak in Alton, a vigorous 3-4 mile round trip with a clamber over boulders to the summit that is very popular with hikers. Closer to Wolfboro we hiked around Knight's Pond- a conservation area where we saw a great blue heron. Others in our party fished in Alton Bay.
We viewed the solar eclipse from charming Brewster beach in Wolfboro. All in all a lovely stay. A game table to set up our jigsaw puzzle was the only element lacking. That would be a great addition to the farmhouse. Thanks to Jill and Cindy for sharing their lovely property with us.
Perfect for our needs
Loved the seclusion and amenities
Perfect for a family weekend!
We had a wonderful time staying at your home! The house was beautiful, with updated kitchen and bathrooms, but also keeping the charm of an old house. The beds were comfortable, everything was very clean, and we loved walking around the property and exploring. The screened in gazebo was great too! We wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you for helping make our stay so enjoyable!
Beautiful farm for an outdoor rustic wedding!
House was extremely comfortable for such an old home. Beautifully updated and restored.
Grounds were perfect for a dyi rustic wedding. Cindy and Jill were generous in sharing their farm property and time. Even though Mother Nature didn't cooperate and we had horrible weather and lost power off and on during the wedding and after, we would choose to do it all again if we could.
Would have been perfect if dogs were allowed! 😉
