The owner is a teacher in the Lehigh Valley. She grew up in Northeastern PA and spent many summers at Lake Wallenpaupack as a child.
Grace Sosik purchased this chalet in 2012
Grace grew up about 20 minutes from Lake Wallenpaupack and spent many summers at the lake as a child. Grace purchased this house in 2012 and looks forward to creating many memories with her 3 children and her 4 grandchildren.
This house is the perfect place to 'get away from it all'. The patio/sunroom which is located off of the kitchen/dining area is perfect for reading a book or magazine. Guests can sit out on the balcony and listen to nature in the early morning hours. At the end of a day, a campfire in the large outdoor firepit is the perfect way to wind down!
I have never written a review before and I would not be writing one now - but Grace never responded to my multiple messages via voice mail and email sent while we were renting her house. Let me begin by saying, I have been a Lake Wallenpaupack enthusiast for over 20 years. We have camped, rented houses and stayed with friends over this time and are well versed on the 'lake' life style. We wanted to do a late summer visit to the lake and decided last minute to rent a house. Based on my experience (there are multiple examples on VRBO/Homeaway) this property was priced high but due to the timeliness we went for it. This property left a lot to be desired.
Grace charges a significant cleaning fee which should more than cover professional cleaning services however she opts to do it herself. No one can effectively clean a property of this size by themselves between weekly rentals. I know that 'clean' is a relative term but there was pink mold on the shower curtain in the 1st floor bathroom and the basement bathroom was disgusting - requiring a thorough scrubbing before it could be used. Overall the place had been superficially cleaned - one of the beds smelled of body odor and needed to be cleaned before use. We were told there was cable but there was an upgrade by the service provider that caused the TV to not work - we called Grace and she did not respond.
The toilets ran at random and would wake us up during the night - we had to shut off the downstairs toilet. There was a fire/shock hazard in the kitchen where the wiring came up through the island cabinet to the stove top - definitely not up to electrical code. The kitchen faucet is not installed properly and spins at the base every time you try to use it.
Common sense dictates that the full size refrigerator be moved to the florida room before someone falls down the steps on their way to get orange juice.
This review could have been avoided if our concerns would have been responded to while we were renting the house.
The photo and description of the house are spot on - but that is the last of it. This property is NOT "away from it all". It is in a very crowded gated community. We were @ ½ an hour late to check in at the office so we had to call the community police officer when we arrived. An hour later he was yelling my husband's name from the lawn. I think we needed to sign something. We brought our dog, very gracious of the owner, but there were so many people, golf carts, and other dogs that he barked himself into a stupor. We live in a city and have fewer neighbors. There was the constant whine of motor boats to add to the noise of the tightly packed neighbors and fleet of golf carts. We stayed one night, forfeiting our rental fee - just to GET AWAY FROM IT ALL.
We stayed at this house for 10 days in late July/early August. While it's not on the lake, nor can you really see the lake from the balcony, it is a very easy walk (via right-of-way path) down to the lake. There are boat slips there as well as a small beach and picnic area.
We also used this house as a home base at night. During the day we went tubing on the lake, blueberry picking, go cart racing, swimming, and a day trip to Hershey Park.
The house itself was great. We had eight people and two dogs, but there was plenty of room for everyone to sleep. My only real complaints are that the dishwasher is small and the large refrigerator is in the basement (a small one is in the kitchen). Other than that, it worked out just fine.
My family and I stayed for three days over Christmas, and we found the chalet sparkling clean and ready for us to stay. The owner was even kind enough to put out some Christmas decorations for us. We had no problems with the house, and found the community quiet and serene. A great getaway place, and it looks like it would be that way for any season!
Every year, my family of four takes a weekend trip to Lake Wallenpaupack during the late winter months. After having trouble with a few other places in the past, we wanted to try some place new. We were delighted to stumble upon this rental. The place is gorgeous and very clean. No smokey or mildew odors which is reassuring when you have two children under the age of 18. The high ceilings and open floor plan make the place feel very roomy. The house stays warm and the fireplace adds great ambiance. There are more than enough sleeping arrangements - a queen sized bed on the first floor and pull out sleeper couch (I would like to add that the couch seems like it may be brand new) sleeps two. There is also a room with a double bed on the second floor with another room with two twin beds. Each room is a good size. The kitchen is modern with granite counter tops and a large island for cooking prep. The bathrooms are also updated and most importantly - clean! I couldn't have asked for more. It is literally home away from home! The lake is also just a few minutes away and the walk is so scenic and enjoyable. We are even talking about booking again during the summer months! I will definitely be recommending this place to my friends and family.
