About Ron Arnold
A retired school principal and his teacher wife-and-former-sweetheart spent the last 8 years renovating this 1832 office building built by Samuel Cunard, the founder of Cunard Steamship Lines. Before that we worked in schools in three provinces, one territory and two countries.
Ron Arnold purchased this Apartment in 2004
Why Ron Arnold chose Pictou
One side of my family descended from Ship Hector settlers. We were looking for a retirement project in the Maritimes and this building needed some work, was located on the harbour and was empty. Kind of a no brainer!
What makes this Apartment unique
Cunardhouse is a piece of classic Maritime architecture and turned out to be a piece of history as well. Looking onto the harbour on the second floor are three crooked windows that make it stand out in all the old photos of the waterfront. They present a unique 'face' and we think we know their story.

Absolute Comfort/Perfect Location
We did utilize this central location and made daily trips. With an early start and an evening drive back, you can access PEI, Cape Breton's Cabot Trail, and popular spots within Nova Scotia (Halifax, Peggy's Cove, Bay of Fundy, etc.) Locally, you are within blocks of the local shops and restaurants (Eat at Sharon's one block away). Sobey's is a 10 minute drive at most. Friendly small town atmosphere.
Here's the point form version...

A Fine Home
We stayed here 3 nights at the start of our journey to the Celtic Colours in Cape Breton. The home is historic, spacious and comfortable. The view is special and the community of Pictou is welcoming. Put the Cunard House on your list for fine accommodations!
Clean, comfortable, spacious and quiet home in Pictou, Nova Scotia
What a great introduction to HomeAway. Our host Ron was friendly and helpful. The property was immaculate and well-stocked with everything we might need. Kitchen was complete with appropriate cooking and dining ware. The grocery store is a convenient ten-minute ride away.
We found Pictou to be a perfect jumping-off point to explore Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia -- although it's a bit of a reach to the Cabot Trail, so we decided to pull up stakes for that part of our travels. Even scored a nice knife from the Grohmann factory store, just a five minute walk from the property.
The accommodation was quaint and lovely with a gorgeous view of the harbour. The location was ideal for day tripping. Ron was a gracious and engaging host and I would recommend this rental.
Thanks Paula. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to see you again if you are back this way.
Very clean, large rooms, and the deck looking at the water was wonderful. Close to resturants and shops.Central so we could do day trips around Nova Scotia & PEI. Would definitely stay here again.
Many Thanks for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay in Pictou. I hope all went well with your journey home.
Hector Heritage Quay and 18th century ship Hector are 60 metres away and are part of the view. Northumberland Fisheries Museum across the street Adopt a lobster at the lobster hatchery across the street. See Scottish architecture buildings.
