I will be 37 in May. I am oldest of two children and the only son. My father bought this house 22 years ago. We recently remodeled parts of it. This house is part of my childhood, and I love it dearly. I have decided to start renting it out now since the family does not use it as much. My sister has moved to Seattle, and my parents are.... lets say more mature. Our family is truly blessed and it shows in all the memories made at the CAPE!
Tommy Cooley Jr purchased this house in 1984
I know you will enjoy the house as we have for 24 years, it truly is a gem.
Sits on 5 acres of land with lush landscape! Your private getaway! Own private pool, 500 foot dock and all the FL sun you want. You get to enjoy the best of both worlds. The bay and the gulf!
As we all get in our older years we do reflect on things we really want to do and mine was to take our children and grandchildren on a great vacation. This house was the perfect place. Plenty of room for all and lots of things to do for all ages and we had a big range in ages. Beach was wonderful, rented photon boats one day, went to St. George fishing and some even took site tours to Panama, snorkeling off the dock.
The house is absolutely beautiful, everything they said it was and more. All kinds of games furnished and the pools was a super hit!
There were a couple of things that needed attention. The small appliances and stove could use upgrading and the bedroom to the left of the stairs, down stairs, stayed very warm and not a lot of water pressure in that bath. I know the stove has probably already been replaced because they came over and took measurements while we were there. for sure.
It was a wonderful experience with my family and I recommend it to anyone with a large group. No one wanted to go home. Tons on memories were made those 7 days.
VACATION OF A LIFE TIME! Thank you Tommy for helping make my wish come true.
We had a great stay in Cape San Blas! If you're looking for a house with a boat dock, look no further. The home is exactly as pictured and the grounds were even better than pictured. A very quiet and serene setting. The sun rises over the bay in the morning and the deck is a wonderful place to enjoy the show with a cup of coffee.
We stayed with two other families (six adults & five children) and we had plenty of room. The house is very spacious. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything serious cooks need. We loved the large dining table which allowed everyone to sit together. The ping pong table provided hours of fun for everyone.
The Cape itself is a beautiful place to visit. If you have or rent a boat, go to the tip of the cape and anchor. The water is clear and blue. We had great oysters in Apalachicola and it's worth the boat ride or drive.
We will definitely be back next year! Thank you for sharing this home!
We absolutely loved the house, the setting and the location. What a nice area of Florida that we didn't even know existed. We rode bikes daily down the the ice cream shop and even rode our bikes to the state park. Everything is within bike riding distance. We loved the screened in front porch. The floorplan of the house was perfect. To be able to open the front doors and the sliding glass doors was like a natural a/c. It was truly wonderful. The bay side was such fun to paddleboard and kayak in. Crystal clear water and lots of sea life. There was a couple of cotton mouth snakes but they didn't bother us. The kids had a blast exploring the bay. Thank you for a wonderful place to stay. We all thought it was one of our favorite places we have been so far.
This is a very nice house in a great location. You're right on the water with amazing views. The extensive screened porches provide good bug protection for spending time or having meals outside. The property is far enough from other houses that you feel like you're very secluded. The dock was nice, but the bay is very shallow so if you're bringing a boat make sure its deep enough. We caught fish right off the dock and the bay is fantastic for kayaking and kayak fishing (multiple 40"+ fish). There was a lot of wildlife including dolphins by the dock, bald eagles, deer, sea turtles, an armadillo, lizards, crabs, raccoons and snakes.
If you have small kids or pets be very careful of snakes. We came across 3 cottonmouths during our visit, they seem to collect around the pond and lawn by the driveway. Luckily they are not aggressive and no one got bitten despite nearly stepping on one.
The house has lots of space and in general is in good repair and nicely decorated. There were a bunch of minor maintenance items (mostly light bulbs and holes in the screen) that need to be done, but none effected our stay or required immediate attention. The pool was a nice touch, though we found that the beach was so nice we used it very little.
Owner was easy to work with and provided accurate details. We would definitely stay here again.
The property is extremely private and quiet with only a glimpse of part of the house next door. There are beautiful lawns front and back. The swimming pool is completely fenced and well maintained. When we entered the house we could tell this was a real home with a history of family vacations and special times with good friends. The house is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed spetacluar views of the bay as we had morning coffee on the deck watching the sunrise. When it rained we moved to the screened porch and when it got windy, we moved upstairs and tried to remember how to play pingpong. The large open bayfront with steps from the shore made for easy access to play in the bay. Beach access at the public park is only a few minutes walk down the bike path. A big thank you to the Cooley's for sharing their perfect vacation retreat.

A scenic, 10-minute drive east of Port St. Joe will take you to our most hidden beaches of Cape San Blas and Indian Pass. Each offers a character of its own with miles of shell-strewn, pet-friendly shorelines and a vast array of eco-excursions.
Begin your adventure into the (truly) wild blue yonder by heading east out of Port St. Joe, to scenic C-30A. Follow this two-lane road through the St. Joseph Bay Buffer Preserve and take a right onto C-30E. Until you've actually laid eyes on the coastline of Cape San Blas, you're bound to underestimate this sandy stretch of splendor. Like a giant arm, the 17 mile long barrier peninsula, curves around St. Joseph Bay offering playful surf and white sand beaches on the Gulf side, with just a short walk across to spectacular fishing on the bay side. Once you arrive, you'll understand why it was America's #1-Ranked Beach, for its natural beauty, in 2002. The Cape is known for its clear, sometimes blue, sometimes green water and low, gentle surf-but there's a lot more to do than swim. Drag a chair to the beach with a book, throw a line to the surf, or comb the shore for treasures... but be sure to keep an eye out for dolphins schooling by. Scattered with shells including as giant cockles, angel wings, olive shells and lightening whelks, this pooch-friendly paradise is super soft and sparkling white.
Tired of relaxing? It does happen. Peddle Loggerhead Run bike trail for a different view (or better yet- for ice cream when you hit the end of the trail at Cone Heads!), browse through kitschy beach stores, or grab a few pounds of bay shrimp to steam while you watch the sun go down.
Looking for something more adventurous? Local outfitters will get you rigged...horseback riding is available, (and yes, you get to ride on the beach). Prefer something smoother? Canoe, kayak and sailboat rentals are nearby as well as diving, snorkeling and eco-excursions. Explore the bay. It's a giant aquarium! Wade fish grassy flats, or rent a kayak with your kids and glide above two feet of water for miles. Clear, shallow water offers hours of safe play and discovery for little ones as well as adults. Sand dollars, starfish, scallops and schools of colorful fish are fun to find-ten times more fun with a scoop net and mask! Our bay is a safe haven to fragile marine life that depend on sea grass for food and shelter, until they are old enough to swim out to the real world. (So, please don't let your boat propeller drag across the grass, it takes three years to grow back!)
St. Joe Bay is one of the few remaining areas in Florida where there is a significant bay scallop population. St. Joseph State Park is a great way for visitors to get to the bay and scoop them up. Wade out from shore or launch your boat from Eagle Harbor-you'll see why scalloping is one of our most popular summer activities.
St. Joseph Peninsula State Park
The link below describes our 2516-acre facility as miles of sugar white sand, superb views from high dunes and over 240 species of birds, with a boat ramp at Eagle Harbor. Or, you can just read what visitors had to say...
'My favorite state park in Florida' This is the best State Park in the Florida system, period. Miles of walking and biking. I don't know about the campsites but the cabins are excellent, all with their own little beaches, good swimming and even windsurfing....I am writing this from a cabin here and my Verizon 3g is good but bring a USB stick antenna if you need to be online...
'The Forgotten Coast' This was the most awesome state park I've ever seen! The white sandy beach on one side and the bay on the other. We could sun and swim on the secluded beach or go boating and snorkeling in the bay. Scallop season was plentiful and delish! For nature lovers like me, you will be amazed by all the state park...
