Born and raised in landlocked Indiana, our family has always cherished our summers on Martha's Vineyard. We have four children and often invite extended family to vacation with us; we all fit comfortably. My husband works in Open Heart Surgery at a leading hospital in Indianapolis and I work part time in a private school. We welcome you to enjoy Martha's Vineyard at our Windchime vacation home.
Patricia Brown purchased this house in 1972
My husbands parents built this home on the Vineyard after vacationing there for several summers. We have renovated our home to keep it updated and comfortable. When on the ferry ride to the Island, we can literally feel the stress melting away. There is no place on earth like the Vineyard.
One of my favorite things about this house is the living room/great room. With 20 foot ceilings and wind chimes along the loft; a soft breeze makes it magical. The deck and outdoor shower are a favorite too; lots of fun BBQ's and outdoor showers under the stars.
The house was definitely big enough for 12 people and had a beautiful deck outside with hanging white lights. While there was no air conditioning, it did have ample fans and windows. There were also chairs and other water equipment and toys for the beach, in addition to board games and cards. Specific feedback: (1) the mattresses on the beds in the middle bedroom and bedroom closest to the first floor bathroom were so hard that we had to purchase and have shipped to the house two memory foam mattress toppers, (2) the general level of cleaning and presentation could have been much better (i.e. the first floor bathtub and shower liner - so unsightly and unsanitary that we ordered a bath tub mat to put down and a new shower liner to put up), (3) the basement bathroom did not run any hot water, and (4) the refrigerator did not get very cold.
This could be a great rental house if these four items were addressed.
We recently stayed at the Windchime with another family. There was more than enough room for 4 adults and 6 kids! The house was very nicely decorated, clean and had all the accommodations we needed!! We enjoyed sitting out on the huge deck at night with the sea shell lights :) The house was in a great location and in a very quiet setting. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again when we visit the island again. The owner was very nice and was quick to answer andy questions I had!
This magical Island of Martha's Vineyard has enchanted and amazed visitors for generations. The spectacular natural scenery, quaint and historic seaside villages, fine hospitality and relaxed atmosphere have made Martha's Vineyard America's favorite Resort Island.
Each Island town has its own character. There is the stately and historic Edgartown, the vintage architectural eccentricity of Oak Bluffs, the bustling but down to earth demeanor of Vineyard Haven and the relaxed peacefulness of the 'up-island' towns of West Tisbury, Chilmark and Aquinnah.
