Enjoy the gulf and sand dune views from this beach front home that borders Grayton Beach State Park. Matarangi is just a short walk from many funky and eclectic shops and restaurants. Beautifully, yet comfortably decorated, this stunningly designed modern beach home offers the perfect accommodations for a family vacation with 6 bedrooms and 5.5 baths, sleeping 14 people. The sixth “bedroom” is a large kids TV / game room complete with built-in bunk beds. Enjoy our pristine white-sand beaches, the emerald green Gulf of Mexico or relax in your private heated pool (heating costs are additional). Nearby is Western Lake, a rare coastal dune lake that offers fishing, boating and swimming in calmer waters near the outflow into the gulf. Even though Matarangi is gulf front, the beach must be accessed via a sandy path through the Grayton Beach State Park, about 150 walking steps away.
Matarangi is centered around a large, second story, open family room with kitchen, living and dining areas overlooking Grayton Beach State Park, the beach and the gulf. Huge windows afford incredible sunset views. The family can gather on the large balcony off the family room which is equipped with ample Adirondack chairs and a gas grill. Living area features a large sectional sofa, coffee table, sofa table with 2 chairs, lamps and a wood-burning fireplace. Stocked with books, games and puzzles, huge LED TV over the fireplace, HD Cable, Blu-ray, whole house Sonos sound system and wireless internet connectivity, you will never run out of things to do. The large dining table seats 10. The breakfast bar has 5 barstools as well. The open, well-stocked kitchen features a gas range, two dishwashers, microwave and Subzero frig with icemaker. There is a roof deck as well with more Adirondacks, some loungers and the same beautiful views.
The King master bedroom is elevated and overlooks the dunes, beach and gulf. It has a platform king bed, 2 lamps, chest of drawers, LCD TV, and a private bath with jetted tub, separate shower and double pedestal sinks. Four of the other bedrooms and a powder room come off a central hallway. Queen bedroom #1 has bedside table and lamp, chest of drawers, LCD TV, and a private bath with a jetted tub. On the ground floor is the extra large kids TV / game room. This open room has 2 built-in bunks (4 twins), huge LED TV, Blu-ray, sofa, 2 side chairs, coffee table, bathroom with shower, and ample dressers and built-ins for storage of personal items. There is also a washer and dryer in a closet in this room.

We are a group of librarians, teachers and writers and we loved your collection of books. But we loved the view of the ocean and the sunset most of all. It beckoned us to go outside and walk along the beach. We also like the well equipped kitchen. Teenagers in our group loved the downstairs hangout and parents loved a separate space for them.
The stay at Matarangi was a great disappointment. A six foot pile of garbage (from previous renters) framed by a 3 story construction site was our first view of Matarangi. (The garbage was picked up on Monday) I realize that you had no control over building next door, but feel you were DEFINITELY obligated to inform us of the situation. Though the construction crew was very courteous, the noise started first thing Monday morning and continued all week unless it rained. The house is well insulated so was not noisy inside....but who goes on a beach vacation to stay inside? The lovely 2 verandas were not pleasant in the daytime as it was simply not relaxing to sit outside. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARNED AND GIVEN THE OPTION TO DECLINE TO RENT. A small gift bag and a $50 gift card to make up for the non-relaxation of an $8000 rental was an insult!!!
The property should have been described as a beach VIEW not a BEACHFRONT. The view from the house and the verandas was spectacular but it was an exhausting trip through construction and dunes to get to the beach. Though the distance had been stated in the property description, most properties that advertised beach access had some sort of raised wooden path that were easy to navigate. At Matarangi just walking to the beach, let alone carrying any kind of beach chairs or umbrellas, was a major undertaking. Instead of enjoying back and forth access to the beach (which is what we usually do) we went once a day, and felt like pack animals.
The house itself was lovely and views were incredible, especially the night sky from the upper veranda. The property has a great common area with the best equipped kitchen we've ever had. Plenty of books, towels, games etc. We had one small problem in the kitchen which was addressed the minute we called. The small towns close by were very enjoyable and we rented bikes to roam around. The beach was very private with great sand. Arrival and departure procedures were user-friendly. It was easy to move in and out.
Despite positive attributes, I would never recommend Matarangi to anyone. This is our seventh annual extended family beach vacation, and the only one that I would be unable to recommend.
The views are some of the best ever. Huge decks for enjoying the scenery. Grayton Beach is truly an old beach town....no high rise buildings, just quiet and beautiful. This house provided so much room for our family. Trek to the beach, however, is not the easiest....about 400 steps, most through deep sand....would be quite difficult for older folks and people with small children. Having a boardwalk would be great. Several maintenance/repair issues & minor upgrades to the house would have made the place perfect. Construction next door was minor thankfully as we were not told of this before our trip. Sunburst did provide a well equipped beach tote and a $50 gift card for the inconvenience which was a nice touch. Had issues with tv and Internet and Sunburst came out to fix at once. Great company to rent from!
Our stay was very enjoyable, we had a few minor issues that were addressed very quickly and to our satisfaction. The view was outstanding and the house was close to a lot of amenities.
The layout of the house suited our needs as we wanted a spacious area to celebrate the "Super Bowl".
We didn't want to leave and immediately booked our trip for next year. The house was absolutely perfect for our combined families of 9 adults and 3 kiddos. You cannot beat the views from Matarangi, whether you are inside cooking in the kitchen, on the main level deck or sunbathing on the top deck. The views of the dunes AND the ocean made you feel like you were the only house for miles. It was so quiet and breathtakingly beautiful. The kids had so much fun spending the day on the beach, checking out Seaside or just running around on the decks. The adults had an even better time doing all of the above with plenty of wine! We loved staying in Grayton, giving you all of the touristy beaches so close but keeping you away from the madness. It was the only vacation where I could say we truly got away!! I am in full depression mode right now as I go back to work. I have to wait a year to start my day with a cup of coffee overlooking the ocean and end it with a glass of wine and the most perfect sunset. But I have tons of pictures to look back on and can't wait to create new memories in 2014 on our next trip to Matarangi.
Our week stay at Matarangi was perfect! This house is truly amazing. The kitchen is the best appointed we have ever had with any of the vacation homes we have rented over the years. The house feels like it belongs in some dreamy beach film...the decks, the views, the gathering areas...WOW! Thank you so much. We hope to be able to visit again next year
Pictures do NOT do this house justice! The view from the ENTIRE house is incredible. The home has been featured in national publications and was designed by a well-known architect in the area. You can tell that much time and care were put into the planning of the design of this home. It is very modern, yet still cozy and homey. The big couch is perfect for curling up and hanging out. You can WALK to the world-famous Red Bar, and all of the neighbors are so friendly you will never want to leave. After the view, the best part about the home is the artwork! The owner is an artist and much of the work is hers. I looked her up online because I want to find out how to purchase some of her work. This is a FAMILY home. I honestly felt like I was renting from friends because they had a photo album of pictures from when they were building the home that we looked through. I loved everything about this home. Each bedroom has a private bath, so it's perfect if you have a large family. The kids den downstairs is perfect!!
