4600 Square Feet With 8 Bedrooms, 8 Baths Near Bethel Village

Located in the historic town of Bethel, the Thaddeus Twitchell House is one of the areas most beautifully restored landmark homes. Originally built in 1813, the home has undergone a series of renovations to create its current luxury accommodations.

Situated halfway between Historic Bethel Village and Sunday River Ski Resort, the house is located on the Mountain Explorer route, a free service that transports residents and visitors to and from the Sunday River resort and Bethel Village every half-hour all winter long. Nearby, several notable restaurants and family-friendly activities can be found.

This home is also located on the Snowmobiling Trails in Maine, offering unlimited access to the network throughout New England and Canada.

This 4600 square foot home has central air-conditioning and features a brand new stainless-applianced kitchen, a spacious dining room, a gorgeous living room with fireplace, and eight bedrooms with private baths. The property is situated on 1.6 acres and has beautifully maintained perennial gardens. A new private heated in-ground swimming pool was just added to the property.

During the late fall and winter months, the home serves as a retreat for the skiers and snowboarders who enjoy partaking of the sunday river ski resort amenities.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This place was stunning. I booked it for my wedding weekend and had a girls sleepover the night before with all my female friends who came to the wedding, a big group. They all loved it and raved about how beautiful the location was. Also, the space was perfect to accommodate everyone. And everyone loved how it was literally steps away from the reception venue so they could come and go as they liked. We had a wonderful stay here and felt right at home. Susan was an excellent host to work with and such a sweetheart.

Great stay at the Twitchell House

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Twitchell House for a long weekend in February for a large group of families. The house was great. We found everyone congregated in the kitchen often, which was large enough to accommodate people hanging out and others cooking (two dishwashers!). It was also a big help that 7 of the 8 bedrooms had full bathrooms attached (the 8th has a half bath). I was initially nervous about the location on a busy street, but you couldn't hear anything from inside, so it was a non-issue. Also appreciated the location close to both Sunday River and Abrams, to accommodate both the more adventurous and budget focused members of the group. Susan was very helpful- extremely responsive to getting a minor problem with the hot tub fixed very promptly so we could enjoy it during our stay. Would definitely go back again.

Rad Thad Pad is the best place to stay in Bethel.

  • 5 of 5

This home is amazing. Sleeps a huge group of friends and family comfortably. All of the amenities you could ever want. Gorgeous kitchen. Family room where everyone can gather. Bathrooms on bathrooms. I've stayed here four years in a row now, and it never gets old.

Wonderful wedding weekend at the Twitchell House

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Twitchell House with our families for our wedding at the 1888 Barn last month. Our families were so impressed with their accommodations! The house is huge! The house was spotless when we arrived and equipped with everything we needed for the weekend. Being a historic property, the house has lots of charm. Combined with high-end amenities like a wine fridge, professional range, and a hot tub, the house is a very comfortable place to stay!

All of our guests enjoyed their spacious rooms and private bathrooms. The bridal suite was beautiful and offered ample space for my bridal party to get ready the day of the wedding. We had such a wonderful weekend at the Twitchell House. It was the perfect place for our family and friends to gather during our wedding weekend.

Susan and Arthur, thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home!

Absolute Perfection!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I booked this house for our wedding weekend and we could not have asked for a more perfect spot/house. We have a very large family and filled every room in the house. The house was very spacious so no one felt like they were on top of each other. With 7 nieces and nephews with ages ranging from 1.5 – 9 years old there was plenty of room and plenty to do for everyone. The kitchen is an absolute dream. We had a pot-luck style dinner and we had everything we needed at our fingertips. We got married in the barn next door and I cannot begin to tell the stress it relieved staying RIGHT next door. I dealt with Susan via e-mail booking the house and working out details when it became closer to our arrival. She was amazing to deal with. She accommodated our request to check into the house early and answered any other questions/requests we had. We were met with a wonderful woman when we checked into the house and was kind enough to show us around and where everything was that we may need. She also provided her contact information in case we ran into any issues. Arthur stopped on Sunday to introduce himself and give us a little history on the house. It was a joy to meet him. Thank you so much for providing us with such a beautiful and accommodating home. You can be sure we will be back, if not to this property, definitely one of your other properties.

Sunday river st. Patricks weekend ski trip!

  • 5 of 5

Our group was impressed at how many rooms and bathrooms there are, we loved the large kitchen flooded with light and lots of counter space , the dinning room was enormous , the living room was a warm space with large sectional and a fire place great place to gather after a long day of skiing .

We love the location, we could walk to two bars, gas station/liqueur store , BBQ road side rib truck ( amazing by the way , try the brisket sandwich),

Dealing with the owners was an easy process and extremely accommodating , our group has rented the heights and the timber ridge homes and both more amazing than the next!!!

Can't wait to go back it's what a vacation should be . Thanks Murphy's !

Owner's Response: Thank you Paul for your lovely comments. The Thaddeus Twitchell house is large and inviting and the area of Bethel is fun with plenty to do and a good variety of places to eat and drink. The location has many options that do not require a car to get around. I am wondering if you decided to take the Mountain Explorer to go to the Sunday River Ski area.... We look forward to your group returning for another fun vacation weekend! Our best, Susan and Arthur
