Former Historic Summer Home of Bettie Davis!
Historic Cottage in Sugar Hill
Enjoy Butternut Cottage as spring gently flows into summer, as the days become quieter and brighter with sunlight streaming through the trees in the surrounding woods. Watch the Butternut woodchucks and squirrels scurry through the trees while you catch up on your reading or enjoy a cold glass of lemonade on the porch in good company.
The Butternut Cottage was the New Hampshire vacation playground for Hollywood film legend Bette Davis. The post and beam cottage has been recently restored and brought back to original grandeur. The home has five fireplaces, two in the main dining and living area in addition to one in each of three of the cottage bedrooms. The fireplaces, original wide plank pine floors and rustic overhead beams bring to life the treasured features of simpler times. The yard and surrounding land is landscaped to reflect the peacefulness and tranquility of the town of Sugar Hill with shrubs, and plant life blossoming in every season.
Come enjoy the historic nature of Butternut Cottage with a hint of Bette Davis memorabilia bringing the past, present and future to life in any season.
The Cottage is located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and in close proximity to shopping, fishing, hiking, skiing, the National Forest and endless breath taking views. For more photos and a description of nearby attractions.

Stayed here for a few days between Christmas and New year. What a wonderful relaxing retreat.
Very comfortable and cosy, and convenient for Canon mountain skiing.
Would happily return.
I stayed for the month of October and enjoyed the foliage which was exceptionally nice for the whole time. The place has lots of charm and it was hard to return to Southern, NH where the pace of life is much more hectic. Firs,t I loved watching all the old Bette Davis movies and read 4 of the biographies I found in the library there. Also, I enjoyed driving around and seeing all the views in the area. Littleton is nearby and has all the shopping places necessary to get whatever you need and I loved shopping at all the small shops and eating at the local restaurants. A day of pampering at Green Spa was delightful too. The Sugar Hill Inn has the best food of any restaurant in NH. Polly's can't be beat either. I also found lots of interesting antique and artsy shops in Bethlehem when I traveled to the Mt . Washington Hotel and rode the flume. There were a few problems with communication through the busy rental agency. I would love to have had a manual explaining the quirks of the place too. My cats loved the screened porch and the stars seem to be closer on Sugar Hill.
Franconia, NH is a beautiful area close to some wonderful events and attractions. If you're an avid hiker, skier, golfer or just someone who likes to kick back and relax, this is the place for you! It's also fun to venture to the local movie theater or take a walk around historical downtown Littleton...so much to do!
