Villa, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, Sleeps 6 adults and 1- 4 children sharing w/parents
The homes are situated on 2 1/2 acres with over 500' of white sandy beach and sheltered, private, in ground, swimming pool, shared between the two houses. There is a four bedroom house and a one bedroom house. There is nice privacy between the two houses. The property is ideal for those who wish to relax in a hammock in the shade of a cabana, or those who wish to dive the wall a short distance from shore. Locals claim this is the best beach for shelling, strolling and watching the sunset over Little Cayman. We are the last property on the end of the island. Convenience and tranquility make this truly a destination for the romantic and adventurous. We are equipped for scuba divers, with rinse and drying stations. Our water is town water and perfectly safe for drinking and cooking. A 50' x10' covered porch beckons for a cold beer or a Pina Colada while overlooking the Caribbean Sea and the sunset over Little Cayman. If you are so inclined you can split a coconut, have a hermit crab race or stroll through our paths carved among the Sea Grapes. This peace of heaven is ready for rent. We are close to the major resorts and restaurants if you need a 'neon' fix and far enough away that you can play Castaway. Bring your ipod as we can doc your favourite reggae tunes. Hands up, baby hands up......You will enjoy your stay and you will not want to leave.
Our beach is the turtle nesting beach on Cayman Brac. June through November turtles can be observed in the evening scooping out the sand preparing for their egg laying. Check out the tropicalrunaway website to see a photo of a giant green sea turtle on our beach. We also have nesting Loggerhead and Hawksbill sea turtles. Other resident wildlife on the island that are fun to observe are the nesting Brown Boobies on the bluff in March and April and the large Iguanas that live down the road year round.
The master bedroom has an extremely comfortable king bed and a single bed. There is an ensuite and a walk in closet. The other upstairs bedroom has an extremely comfortable queen bed and a single bed/daybed. There is an ensuite and a walk in closet. Comfortable beds are a top priority for us. The two bedrooms downstairs share a bathroom. One has a queen bed, same outstanding quality and the other a queen that is slightly firmer for those that prefer that type of bed. No tossing and turning all night because of a hard or lumpy bed! The house is ideal for 3 couples to share, or 3 couples with young children. Children sharing with their parents are free. It also suits 2 couples with 2 to 4 older children (the kids can share the lower level bedrooms and bathroom). I recommend larger groups consider reserving the entire property for their group. Groups of 8 adults will really enjoy being able to spread out between the 2 houses and having access to 2 kitchens/fridges.
The kitchen is well equipped.

The Absolute Perfect Retreat Destination
All we can say is; the pictures and all the positive comments still do not give justice to this slice of paradise. It's the perfect blend of having all the modern conveniences including excellent wifi, meets Gilligans Island, minus any of the downsides.
Upon arrival, we met Mr. and Mrs. Clark (property managers) who were absolutely delightful. The property not only had all the essential items that you would think of, including some you wouldn't; the grounds were kept in immaculate condition, which would be no small task. Car rental with B & S Car rental (suggested by Karen), was so simple, as they were there to greet us upon arrival. Directions and distance from the airport were easier to listen to, that following a map. "Left, Left, Right, Left" and within 5 minutes we were at our private oasis. Obviously, prior guests have been just as thoughtful as Karen and Ray, we say this, as the kitchen was stocked full goodies that kind guests had left. It made us want to "pay it forward" as well, leaving some goodies behind for the next guests. As many other guests have written, going for our morning egg run became a highlight each morning, it supplied us with more than enough fresh eggs than we could keep up with.
The property has many nooks and crannies to discover. You can laze by the pool and play bean bag toss (aka cornhole), or curl up in a hammock by the sea. We ate dinner every evening on the porch which was amazing. After which, we sat around the large table with very comfy chairs and played endless hands of Eucre. The wrap around porch is just that 360 degrees. In the morning you can enjoy a coffee and watch the sun come up and the other side you can see the breathtaking sunsets. There are some great local spots to eat, The Captain's table was our favourite. We really could go on and on, but suffice to say, Karen and Ray, along with the help of the Clarks have created a property that cannot be matched.
Thanks again for letting us stay at your slice of Cayman paradise.
Love from the ATH crew.
Thank you ATH Crew for taking the time to write a review. You have certainly touched on the highlights that I treasure and added some insights from your own unique perspective which will be very helpful to future guests. You will be welcomed back to the property with open arms. I hope you return some day.
We just spent three wonderful weeks at this tropical paradise! Our kids, 22 and 20 years old, joined us for a week too. As is said, it is all about…Location, Location, Location and this place has it, situated at the end of Cayman Brac---Tropical RunAway is a secluded paradise! The house is surrounded by lush greenery with a sparkling pool. The beach is only a few feet down the path, great for quiet walks and fun for shelling. Karen and Ray have thought about everything. The house has all the amenities you can think of. The kitchen has all you need and even storage containers for the leftovers. We really appreciated the refrigerator with the ice and the cold water. Another treat was having the opportunity to enjoy delicious, fresh eggs every day from the friendly chickens, aka “The Girls”, right on the property. One of our favorite things about the house was the veranda that stretches all the way around the house with stunning views. We spent many hours sitting outside, watching and listening to the wave’s crash against the shore, reading, playing games and ate our meals there. One of the greatest aspects of the veranda is that when it is too hot and sunny on one side, you can move around to the other side. There is a large variety of seating as well as a gas grill that we certainly put to good use. The days were sunny and warm so we spent our days in and out of the pool, playing cornhole, and on the beach looking for shells. The house is located on a secluded beach. During the three weeks, we only saw three other people on the beach, and discovered loads of beautiful shells. Evenings began with sundowners at the cabana as the sun slowly sank over Little Cayman, dinner and then watching the night sky. Ray and Karen’s home is very comfortable. There are four bedrooms in the main house that can sleep up to 10 people and a one-bedroom cottage complete with a fully appointed kitchen. The washer and dryer are downstairs---definitely use the clothesline as the smell of sea breeze dried clothes is great-they dry quicker too! The Brac is a very quiet place, and very enjoyable. There are a few home-style restaurants on the island with great food. There are three main grocery stores; we were able to find everything we needed, between the three stores. There are also two full-service diving companies and several fishing availabilities.
If you like, the beach, a pool, privacy, quiet and a very well appointed house…this is the place!
Doesn't get better than this!
I cannot say enough positive things about TROPICAL RUNaWAY. Ray and Karen have worked so hard to make their Brac home and property beautiful and comfortable. The house is comfortable, well-equipped and has gorgeous views of the plantings, pool and ocean. With its wraparound porch, you can find breezes and shade at any time of day or head to the cabana on the beach to be even closer to the amazing view and cool breezes. There are fun paths and surprises from Ray's beach-combing everywhere. The rinse tank set-up for divers is terrific as are the fresh eggs from the hens and the recently renovated and well-stocked kitchen. The snorkeling from the beach is incredible as is an easily accessible shore dive. The location of the house also couldn't be better - it is the westernmost property on the island which is great for sunsets and the house is only a 5-10 minute drive to everything you need (groceries, liquor store, dive shop, restaurants). This was the most relaxing vacation we have taken, in large part because of TROPICAL RUNaWAY.
Thanks for your review. This is number 100!!!! That's right folks, if you had up the total reviews for the 2 houses at TROPICAL RUNaWAY, there are 100 reviews! I wish VRBO would link the two houses on our property, but they are more interested in being sure to collect separate site fees for each house, even though it is one big beautiful 2 1/2 acre property. Your review hits the highlights of TROPICAL RUNaWAY and the time you took to write it is appreciated.
The Premiere Vacation Home in the Brac - A Tropical Gem!
I just returned from two weeks of blissful escape at Tropical RunAway in Cayman Brac. This elegant home and stunning property is THE premiere vacation home on the island. As a frequent visitor to the Brac and a return visitor to Tropical RunAway, I can say with confidence that I will never stay at any other home on this island during my future visits. I am selfishly reluctant to share this sterling review with all of you, because I want to make sure there will always be space for me to return each year.
Where do I begin? Loggerhead House is casual luxury at its best, with two well-appointed master suites, each with ensuite bath and beautiful views. Separating these large suites is a great room with a gourmet kitchen, leading to an expansive open-air veranda with multiple living areas so you can always find a sunny lounge chair or a shady outdoor dining area. Downstairs there are two additional bedrooms and a third bathroom with laundry facilities. It is quite apparent that owners Ray and Karen treat this as their own home rather than a rental property. Each time we visit, we are pleasantly surprised to see the updates they have created to augment an already spectacular property. Mr. and Mrs. Clarke, the property managers, are a quick phone call away should you have a question or problem, but they never intrude on guests’ privacy.
The grounds are breath-taking, with meandering walkways through 2 ½ acres of lush gardens, beachfront with two private palapas out of view of one another, and a refreshing pool that we used every day of our stay. The extensive grounds make this retreat perfect for extended families or groups of friends – there is enough space for everyone to find a secluded private spot or to gather together. For adventurers, you are a quick drive away from scuba, cave exploration, or hiking through the 180 acre parrot preserve. Or, if you just want to relax (like me), you can snorkel on your own private beach, swim in your private pool, and relax in a hammock with a good book. Oh yes, you can also meander over to the chicken coop to gather fresh eggs for breakfast. THIS is what paradise is all about!
Thanks, Ray and Karen, for sharing this gem in my favorite tropical paradise!
Thank you very much for taking the time to write such an informative review and for including so many of the highlights of staying at TROPICAL RUNaWAY. I look forward to hearing from you when you are ready to return.
Private mini resort!
We just returned from our stay at Tropical Run a way. While the weather was nothing to boast about, we did enjoy the the property. The grounds are lovely and lush and very private. The pool area is nice with lots of shade under the sails. We spent a lot of time on the covered porch on the very comfy chairs. The beach is right there with more spots to sit by the water. It truly is your very own mini resort! The barbecue on the porch is excellent and there is a wood fired covered oven that we used to do steaks on one night and they were awesome! We played corn hole by the pool with the game pieces that are there. The fresh eggs from the hens in the coop were great. We had trouble keeping up with production! This is a spot to go unplug, and unwind!
We were a group of 3 adult couples who were there to dive. Mrs.Clarke was waiting for us at the airport to lead us back to the house. After a quick stop at the liquor store , we did the 3 minute drive to the house. It is a lovely home, with very nicely stocked spice drawer and oils , vinegar , condiments, baking items etc. The two main bedrooms upstairs are a good size with big closets ,ensuite baths, and comfy beds. There was no soap for the showers, so be sure to bring some shower gel with you. The bedrooms on the ground level are accessed from the outside and are connected by an interior door(louvered). The full bath is accessed from the outside and also has the laundry facilities included. Normally the outside access to the loo wouldn't.be a big deal, but with the unsettled weather we experienced the couple using that room didn't enjoy the middle of the night trips to the loo at all. We also wouldn't recommend this house if you have 4 couples as privacy in the 2 lower bedrooms isn't great. However if you have kids that are middle school through Highschool they would love the set up!
We went up to the Barracuda for pizza and beer one evening, great pizza! The Cayman Brac resort offers a barbecue night every Friday , we went twice! The ribs are excellent, and so are the Mudslides! Big Daddy's Liquor Store definitely has a better selection than Mary Lou's Liquor. There are 3 grocery stores and you probably need to visit all 3 ( Market Place, Kirkconnells, and Billy's) to find things that you want. Pray that the Barge is able to dock so supplies get there.
Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us Karen!
Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review and let potential guests get a feel for what it is like at TROPICAL RUNaWAY. I'm so surprised all the emergency supplies of soap, shampoo, conditioners, sun screen, bug repellents, toothpaste, tooth brushes, floss, emery boards, after bite and every thing else I can think of that a guess might forget, that I keep in baskets under the sinks were all used up. That has never happened before. Any chance you just missed the baskets?
I'm glad you found things relaxing and that you could unplug and unwind.
This was our second year at Tropical Runaway. I have so many ways I would like to explain this piece of paradise and the property owners. The location on the island is the absolute best and so very private and serene. Karen is amazing to work with and in the two years we have stayed with her we literally have had no problems whatsoever. I am very picky and this property far exceeds my highest standards. It is well equipped and maintained. This year we enjoyed returning and seeing the new deck off of the side of the house. You can certainly tell the owners take pride in their property. The locals on the island are amazing and we looked forward to seeing them again this year. The property managers, Mr and Mrs Clarke, are ALWAYS available and eager to help. We love love the chickens and the fresh eggs everyday. We feel so very fortunate to have discovered Tropical Runaway and plan to return as often as Karen will allow us. We have already booked for next year. This property does not disappoint and the island has so much to offer. The sunsets are absolutely magical-you don't want to miss this gem. I real place to unwind and get away from the hectic world. Thank you so much, Karen!!!!
Thank you very much for taking the time to post a review. You really do understand the island and the property and the spirit in which we share it with our guests. Occasionally a guest misses the essence of our special spot, but you nailed it perfectly. We believe it is unique and we are very fortunate to own it and spend time there. We get a little worn down from time to time with the endless maintenance required for this spot, but when we have guests like you and your family come to stay, then it spurs us on to continue to improve and share our good fortune. You are always welcome back.
Diving and snorkeling right from the beach in front of the house. Water shoes recommended, some sizes available on site. Occasional currents, checking conditions is recommended.
