Opal Cliffs House Rental Photos and Description

Two bedroom, one full bath, sleeps up to five.

Sharing Gates by the Sea -

Walk about 60 yards, around the corner, to the warmest beaches in Santa Cruz, including Sunny Cove and Santa Maria beaches. Play in the sand, boogie board, wander a long stretch of beach, explore the tide pools, and enjoy the sunset. Walk to nearby restaurants. The cottage is located halfway between the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and Capitola Village (two scenic miles each way).

The little beach house...Sharing Gates by the Sea...was once a part of the Victorian resort, the Hotel Villa del Mar, now a retreat center on 19th Avenue. Built in the 1890s, the 580 square foot cottage has personality and charm. The peaked redwood-paneled ceiling makes the living room feel spacious. The cottage sleeps five. There is a queen bed in the bedroom, and a full-size sofa bed in the living room. The private, sun porch room has a twin bed, and could be used as a small, second bedroom. The cozy garden surrounding the house is fully fenced.

We really enjoyed our recent stay at this cozy little cottage near the beach. A great location to walk to beaches, restaurants, coffee, etc. really enjoyed reading the history of the cottage and area close to it.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Cute cottage a block from a quiet beach. Coffee shop around the corner. Beds could be a bit more comfy. Owner great to deal with and responded very quickly. Better than a hotel room.

Perfect! Exactly as Advertised!

  • 5 of 5

Cute little cottage right on the beach! We are a family

of 4 and found this cottage roomy and cozy. 40 mins from Monterey Bay aquarium, 5 mins from Santa Cruz boardwalk and 1 min walk to an amazing beach! Plus, about a minute walk to Starbucks! We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Bonus find: A CD player loaded with the 2007

Grammy hits! My kids danced all night! Ha!

Cons: the road in front of the cottage is slightly noisy. Just car noise...and nothing that woke us up from sleep.

All in all, we will recommend this place to our family and friends. And will definitely stay here again!

Absolutely Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We are from NY, and rented this property for 10 days.We were there to visit our son. Most nights we slept 5 people in the cottage very comfortable. The cottage is beautiful, beds very comfortable. You are just around the corner from the beach, you can hear the waves, and sea lions at night. You are minutes from Route 1, a easy drive up the cost to Natural Bridges State Park, and minutes from Santa Cruz. We traveled to San Francisco, and that was about 11/2 hours, very beautiful drive. We went south on Route 1 to Big Sur, absolutely gorgeous. You are only 1/2 hour from the the Redwoods. What I'm trying to say it is the perfect location. We walked to many restaurants, and a few breweries. Jeanne was very accommodating to our plane schedules. We would stay here again for sure.

We really enjoyed our stay at this little cottage. It had such character! The location was great! we just walked around the corner and there was the beach! Many places to eat within walking distance as well. The Boardwalk was just a short drive away.

We will certainly visit again!

Car: recommended

Santa Cruz is known for surfing and its historic Beach-Boardwalk, and there is so much more to do here! Within a half hour drive, visit the redwoods, ride the Roaring Camp train through the mountains, go wine tasting, shop in Capitola or at Santa Cruz's unique downtown area, visit the old Spanish mission, eat at unique restaurants, or take a whale watching trip from the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf. Plan a day trip to Carmel and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, 'The City' -- San Francisco -- is two hours north along the coast or through Silicon Valley and the SF bay area. Enjoy exploring!
