A hard-charging, Long Island, NY gal, I grew up in Commack and Setauket and spent most of my adult life in the 'hurry and worry' Suffolk County culture of keeping up with the Joneses.
Up here, I'm a different person! Mellow, cheerful, not a care in the world.
Vermont is one of the most liberal and progressive states in the US, yet preserves and promotes the family values I hold most dear - honor, integrity and loyalty. This is a place that doesn't just TALK family values; the culture here values families.
Terri Scofield purchased this chateau / country house in 2005
I was immediately enchanted by this house and it's proximity to Okemo and the town of Ludlow. I love not having to use the car to get to the mountain or into town. Since relocating to nearby Rutland, this house has become a vacation destination for family and friends year-round.
I always wanted a Victorian with a wrap-around porch, and often turn down the heat to use the wood stove in the kitchen. When I'm lucky enough to score hickory or apple wood, the aroma is divine.
An early riser, I love to sit in the recliner at the east-facing window (or on the porch in summer) and greet the sunrise with a cup of coffee while the house is still quiet and I'm the only one up.
Yet there's plenty of room for the loud and boisterous gatherings of my large Italian family. I think it's that combination of being able to host lots of family and friends yet still have quiet niches when I need peace & quiet that made me fall in love with this place.
We had a wonderful weekend staying at Bowkerhouse in Ludlow. The house was spacious, modern, and beautiful (even more so than in the pictures!) and the location was excellent. We were able to safely walk down to some of the local bars and restaurants for dinner.
Our group consisted of 15 guys in our twenties and there was plenty of room for everyone to relax and sleep. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms were nice (great showers!) and both living areas (upstairs and downstairs) had more than enough space for everyone.
Terri was very helpful throughout the process up until we left. It was a really great experience and I look forward to staying there again next time I am in Okemo!
Great house, with a lot of space, good kitchen, nice showers. Owner was very helpful.
We had a total of 16 adults stay in this wonderful house! Honestly, the pictures don't do it justice for how large, spacious, and amazing this house is. It is the perfect ski house. The house is up on a hill but about a two minute walk to some shops, restaurants, and the shuttle for okemo. At the bottom of the hill is an amazing place to rent skis for cheap! There are multiple tvs, games, even a playstation 2! There is a coffee maker, bean grinder, cappuchino machine, and many other useful things in the kitchen for foodies! The refrigerator and freezer were completely empty when we got there and everything was so clean and ready for us. There was even wood cut for us for the wood stove. The huge shower was amazing after a day of skiing and it was definitely helpful for our sore muscles. The loft above the great room was so fun and an awesome addition to an already fun house. I would recommend this house to anyone.
House was clean! Great location of house! Kitchen is nice! However, we ran out of hot water daily after 4 showers!! We had 8 adults and 7 kids staying in this house, so needless to say this was a let down. The upstairs gets very hot and dry! Although kitchen is spacious the only room to relax in is an upstairs den with seating for about 6.
This place is great, the pictures do not do it justice. We had the maximum amount of people and fit very comfortably. Perfect location at the base of the mountain and near all restaurants and shopping, very convenient! Highly recommend staying here, we will definitely come again!
We had fun figuring out how to make espresso, and stayed up late every night playing games. Overall, it was a great experience, and we will be coming back!
Our winter guests appreciate the option of a less than 3/10 mile drive to Okemo's range of kid-friendly to challenging ski trails, or hopping on the frequent shuttle to the mountain.
Guests can also drive or enjoy a short walk into Ludlow, a charming and bustling town with a wide range of restaurants, shops, cafes and pubs sure to enchant the entire family, from children to grandparents.
Teens and 20-somethings will enjoy the congenial atmosphere and modest prices at Java Babas; the family friendly Pot Belly Pub accommodates all tastes and budgets, and foodies will swoon at the aroma of organic, local food served up at The Downtown Grocery.
