Nearby Mosquito Lagoon is world renowned for it's fishing!
Our parents moved to Florida from Massachusetts in 1960 and designed our family home to be built on the beautiful riverfront property in south Titusville. My sisters and our families currently live in New Smyrna Beach (FL), Tampa (FL), and Tilton (NH), but Titusville will always be 'home' for us.
Kathy Arsenault purchased this house in 1964
The retro style home is perfect to relax in and enjoy the view. Many hours were spent relaxing on the lanai and enjoying the sunrise and dolphins swimming by. We really loved how quiet the setting is and had no problem relaxing. Furnishings are more than adequate for a short or extended stay. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. We loved it so we rented it for another visit later this year and again in 2018. There is much to see and do in the Titusville area and this lovely home served as a great base.
As advertised, the home was dated which we were accepting of. However the cleanliness and adjoining trailer park were not acceptable. The trailers located on the street leading to the home were in disrepair and quite honestly made us feel unsafe. Some appeared uninhabited while a few appeared uninhabitable. We did not feel safe allowing our children to walk on this road.
On arrival, the pool was found green. Cushions on the pool patio were old and appeared dirty. An empty planter was out with cigarette butts in it. There were several half empty and outdated sunscreens left on a shelf. The screen roof above the pool had several tears in it.
Stepping into the home, we experienced an overwhelming mold smell. We had to go to a store to purchase several candles and air fresheners after airing out the house and cleaning it didn't resolve the odor.
At first look the house appeared clean. Looking closer, the family room rug was stained, the living room couch was stained, there water stains on a bedroom ceiling and the floors were dirty.
The bathrooms and kitchen appliances were found in good condition.
The adjoining garage was locked up. Looking through the garage windows, the garage was found to be full of stuff. The adjoining fish pond was so green you couldnt see through the water. We were told by the caretaker that the fish were eaten by the birds. This pond is a significant source for mosquito breeding and was a huge concern to us.
There was a canoe on site that was available for use. The caretaker instructed us not to drag it because he had repaired a hole in it but not to worry because the river wasn't deep(we didn't take a chance).
The saving grace to this home is the view. Each morning we woke up to a beautiful sun rising on the lake.
In summary, I would never stay here again nor would I ever recommend it to anyone. Vacation is meant to be a time to relax. We work very hard for our vacation time and this was very disappointing.
I have numerous pictures to back up what has been said above.
For an older home it is great. You do share some common areas with the adjoining home park. It is located pretty much halfway between Titusville and Cocoa Beach so there is plenty to do. You can't get much closer to the Indian River unless you stand in it. The owner is very kind and caring.
Overall, this house is a hidden gem. It is warm and homey and inviting. It is as though you are visiting family. The décor is somewhat dated and is part of that charm. The view was spectacular – right across from Kennedy Space Center and the location convenient to resterants and shops. Equally important to us is that it was handicap friendly as well. A bonus was that the pool and screened room were adjacent to the intercoastal and we spent a lot of time there. The caretaker, Bob, lived one house up and he was a great source of information about local events and such. The owner answered all correspondence quickly, answered all of our questions, and was very easy to work with. We had a wonderful and restful time and are looking forward to our next visit.
If your child is going to NASA space camp - this is the place to stay! 4 minutes away from the ATX center - 10 from the NASA space center. Kids go to camp and the parents get to relax in a private pool/patio area. Manatees, dolphins, wading birds, - fish right off your own private dock. The caretaker Bob, is wonderful. I can't wait to come back.
Beautiful view. Especially nice if you have your own boat. Bob the manager very helpful. Kathy was excellent to deal with - quick responses and very accommodating. Home was a little dated but clean overall and had all the supplies, dishes, linens, etc. you will need. Pool was also very nice.
