Traverse City Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 10)

'Carroll's Cottage' provides the best of both city and 'Up North' living, creating fond memories for generations of families and friends. Located just 8 miles from Traverse City, you can take advantage of all that Traverse City has to offer: fine or casual dining, an abundance of sporting activities and sightseeing, theater, shopping and events every week of the year. Or, you can stay at the lake, and enjoy the pristine waters of beautiful Long Lake, a large inland lake that warms up for swimming by mid June, and stays warm into the gorgeous fall months, where the leaves offer a kaleidoscope of color. The lake has three large islands for exploring. You can pull your boat onto the shore and bask in the sun or set out on foot to get yet another vista of the spectacular crystal clear waters of Long Lake. Directly across from the cottage, you will find the 'Armour Estate', an historical landmark once owned by the Armour Meat family. Touring the lake, you will see many remnants of the past, including boathouses and beautiful cottages. If you feel adventurous, try your hand at turtle catching...that activity can provide hours of fun and excitement for little ones. Fishing is always a great pastime at the lake. There are bass, walleye, perch and the elusive 50 lb. muskie commonly known as 'Old Scarface' along with many other fish great for fish fries or just catch and release.

When the day winds down, you can sit around the fire pit on the beach, roasting marshmallows, singing camp songs or star gazing. You would be amazed at how clear the night sky is on a soft Northern Michigan night!

Interlochen Center for the Arts is an international music camp located just 5 miles away. They boast a spectacular line up of entertainment most weeks throughout the summer.

The cottage is just 30 miles to the Lakeshore of Lake Michigan where you can enjoy miles and miles of hiking, beaching, boating and swimming. Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes are part of the National Parks System; you can rent canoes and travel down the Platte or Crystal Rivers and end up on Lake Michigan. We are happy to help you plan your vacation as we know the area well!

Keywords: Traditional cottage on the sandy shores of Long Lake. One of the best swimming/ boating/ lakes in Northern Michigan.

About Janet Jannoun

We are a large family who jointly own the cottage. Purchased in 1948 by Rose and Bob Carroll who owned 3 bakeries in Traverse City, they used the cottage to get away from the city. The family moved out to the cottage every summer for the entire summer and moved back to Traverse City when school started. So you see, many generations of Carroll's and friends have enjoyed the cottage and lake over the years and consider it one of the most important gathering spots for the entire family.

Janet Jannoun purchased this cottage in 1948

Why Janet Jannoun chose Northern Michigan

Long Lake offers proximity to Traverse City and the surrounding area while also giving you the experience of a true Northern Michigan summer on the lake. We think it is the best of both worlds!

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage allows you to kick back and enjoy all the beauty of nature; a retreat in which you slow down and remember what it feels like to truly relax and enjoy life away from our hectic routines. Friend us on Facebook @ Carroll's Cottage

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have been coming to the cottage for 35 years and staying for two weeks each time. There isn't a better, more relaxing place to be in Northern Michigan. We enjoy the cottage and area no matter what the weather is....sunny days are spent at the beach and in the water; rainy or cloudy days, we enjoy the surrounding area...we are never at a loss for something to do. Our children and now our granchildren can't wait for their two weeks at Carroll's Cottage!

Another delightful week at Carroll's Cottage. Janet's meticulous attention to detail and loving care of the property makes this the ideal vacation spot. We've enjoyed her hospitality several years. Our family loves it, including our poodle. Thanks for sharing with us!

This was a beautiful cottage. We enjoyed every bit of it, the lake was gorgeous and waking up to the view was breath taking. We enjoyed having fires every night with the kids and our dog, boating and fishing. The owners were so nice and very accommodating. Can not wait to come back and enjoy some more.

Cozy Cabin with great location!

  • 5 of 5

Carroll's Cabin is a well maintained rental. The location on the lake is perfect with great views and access to Long Lake as well as a smaller lake. Fishing was good and the lake was great for waterskiing. The private sand beach and water toys really make this cabin fun. My vacation was much more enjoyable since I was allowed to bring my dog!

Cozy Michigan getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at caroll s cottage for a girls weekend. The cabin was kind of tricky to find but as soon as we arrived we were immediately pleased. The September weather was a bit cool to utilize the beach but we spent most of the time in the hot tub and by the fire. The cabin was very clean especially the bedrooms and bathrooms. We had such a great time at the property we only made it into town once to hit the wineries. The girls were already talking about coming back next year before we even left! The owners were very accommodating , thank you for letting us stay at your place!

Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5

We've been privileged to enjoy Carroll's Cottage several times. It is such a beautiful property, with the best lakeside setting ever. Private and relaxing, yet perfectly located near all the Traverse City area has to offer. With a gorgeous private sand bottom beach, two docks, and all sorts of water toys to enjoy one never need leave the lake! But you'll want to enjoy all the gorgeous area has to offer- just a short drive away. The owner has thought of everything you and your family will ever need - the very best I've EVER dealt with. Comfortable furniture, beds, bedding, towels - it's all there. The kitchen is wonderful and the view out the kitchen window is beautiful. You will absolutely LOVE Carroll's Cottage. Perfect for families of all ages....the flat lawn and beach provide room to stretch out. The neighborhood is friendly and quiet...good for a jog, long walk, or walking your dog. The is PERFECTION!!!

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed here the week the big storm made its way through Northwestern Michigan. It was the day after we arrived, when the storm hit and multiple trees were downed, blocking the road and causing the power to be out until Tuesday afternoon. Thank goodness for the large propane grill and the pontoon boat! We couldn't get out with our car due to downed trees blocking the roads, so we took the boat across the lake to the Long Lake Store and bought some supplies. Janet, the owner of the cottage and Brent the property manager, were very helpful in providing extra coolers, ice, and propane so we could save the week's groceries we had bought the day before and the grill allowed us to be able to cook instead of having sandwiches for lunch and dinner. Janet also arranged for us to obtain a generator, which was not easy as they were in such demand, with so many residents out of power. We really appreciated this and being able to get the refrigerator up and running on Monday night was a relief. Once the power was restored on Tuesday, and the cable and internet on Wednesday, things finally got back to normal. Through it all, we still enjoyed the lake, the cottage and the boat. We loved the location close to Traverse City and the beautiful lake and property. Nice sandy beach area, with grassy area as well. Pictures shown on the website are a very accurate depiction of this cottage. We are coming back, and hope mother nature cooperates next year!
