Catskills Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 7 (in beds)

Near H.I.T.S., Woodstock, skiing. Many original details including wide plank oaks floors in a sun-filled country kitchen. Guests can sit on the porch and overlook the property's meadow and gardens while the kids catch frogs and fireflys. The property sits on a quiet country road and has an open grassy area for play as well as meadow, marsh and wooded terrain. Huge catalpa trees provide nature's perfect jungle gym and also a branch for a tree swing. Kids can invent games in the playhouse.

The FARMHOUSE: After looking at over 75 properties we fell in love with this farmhouse and after many obstacles were able to call it our home. Fixing it up has been our labor of love for over 20 years. So many of the original details remain and we have furnished it with a mix of primitives and contemporary pieces. We are a family of artists and have decorated the house with our artwork and our favorite flea market finds. The kitchen is bright with original wide pine floors and well equipped with the cookware you might need to make a big pot of soup with the garden's harvest. There are four bedrooms upstairs (with a pack and play available) as well one of the two bathrooms.

The GROUNDS: We hardly ever leave our property once we settle in. There is always something blooming in the yard or garden. Our daughter loves to play restaurant in the playhouse my husband built, or swing on the tree swing out by the barn. Playing in the stream-catching frogs and fireflies are favorite activities. There is open space to play as well as a wooded area, meadow and gardens--all easily seen from the porch where you can relax with your coffee or favorite cocktail.

Throw some seed on the feeder and wait for the neighborhood birds to gather--including a few variety of woodpeckers and finches. Be sure to keep on eye out for the turkeys passing through the yard!

Winter usually brings snow enough to sled on a tiny hill next to the house. Making a bonfire and watching sparks fly up into the clear, crisp, star-filled sky has been a New Years tradition for our extended family for many years.

The AREA: It's the Catskills! It's Woodstock! You probably know all about the area. Even still there are always new places to discover--the falls- the quaint park on the Hudson-the swimming hole with the rope swing. The area boasts 4-star restaurants, and fabulous theater as well as folk, rock and chamber music. You can launch your kayaks and paddle out to the Saugerties lighthouse for a swim and picnic or spend the day watching equestrian competitions at H.I.T.S. Woodstock has a rich musical history --Big Pink is a stones throw away-- and though Levon Helm of the Band recently passed away his daughter still hosts the MIdnight Ramble. Check out the Woodstock Film Festival, one of many festivals in the area. Everything you might want to do is close by, yet you dont need to leave the peaceful stream-side property to feel renewed.

Saugerties was also named one of the 'COOLEST' small towns in America

Beautiful and cozy

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with a group of 8 for a 30th birthday party. We had an amazing time. The house was very charming and 10 minutes from Woodstock. The lot is huge, great for bonfires and the dog loved it too! I would highly recommend staying here. The owner Mari, was very helpful and even helped us get the weekend we needed by working with another group who has a more flexible schedule. Thanks Mari!

Owner's Response: It was my please facilitating your stay. I'm so glad you and your group enjoyed your time in the country. I always get a vicarious joy in knowing the activities folks will partake of while they are upstate and it was my pleasure to go biking and vintage shop-perusing with you all. I look forward to talking again. m

Amazing Fall Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to find this rustic house on the side of a mountain in the Catskills. The fall foliage had just turned and the trees were a magnificent gold colour that glowed in the sunshine! The grounds were fun to explore and just hang out on. Very well kept. The house itself was very cozy and welcoming. The grounds were so quiet and dark, they made for spectacular views of the night sky. Well maintained house with many extras- we wanted for nothing during our stay. 6 people in our party seemed just about right for the size of the house. The owner was very friendly and welcoming through the whole rental process and I really enjoyed my interaction with her. Mari's recommendations for things to do in the area are spot on!!!

I cannot say enough for this property and recommend it more to you. Cannot wait to come back again!!!!

Owner's Response: It is a testament to the beauty of the Catskills and the spirit of an old farmhouse that people respond to our little corner of the world with the same enthusiasm we have, and have had, for over 20 years. I am so happy that we can share our home with folks who appreciate the same things we do; in the end, we feel like we know and genuinely like them! thank you!!

A magical stay!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful long weekend at this property, and it couldn't have been any better. I rose early and enjoyed walking the dog through the grounds each morning, and then had my coffee sitting on the porch in the sun, while the rest of our party slept in. Even though we hated to leave the house, we spent our days exploring the area, being sure not to miss too much of the day and return by early afternoon. There is something so wonderful about sitting in the sun, listening to the creek and the sound of the wind in the reeds, watching the butterflies flit by. We lounged in the sun until nightfall, when we enjoyed wine by the fire pit, which was especially epic the night of the eclipse. I could go on and on, but truly this place is magical. I've been dreaming about it since we left!

Quaint farmhouse in beautiful country setting.

  • 5 of 5

It was a terrific place to gather family and friends, clean and cozy with the right amount of charm. The listing description depicted the entire house and property accurately. Owners responded in timely fashion to all our queries and were receptive to minor changes. I recommend this property to rent for anyone wanting to take advantage of the Saugerties/Woodstock area.

Beautiful Farm Property Lovingly Maintained

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived at the property it was Thanksgiving evening and it had just snowed. The farmhouse was picture perfect! Inside, we were immediately comfortable and surrounded by beautiful objects of vintage type, perfect to make us feel we had stepped back in time. A large fireplace kept us warm and relaxed. It was quiet and peaceful except for the lovely sound of a brook outside.

Also, the property is wonderfully located between Saugerties and Woodstock.two great towns for dinning and shopping in antique stores and The Inquiring Mind, one of the best book stores in the area.

I can imagine how beautiful this place is in the summer. Also, the host was excellent and very available to make our stay great. A wonderful place !!

Picture Perfect Farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived at the property on Thanksgiving evening, it had just snowed. The farmhouse is slightly elevated over the farmstead, so it was really beautiful when we arrived. The house is absolutely charming and we felt comfortable immediately. There is a large fireplace and since it had snowed, we used the fireplace frequently. The house is filled with art and objects of interest. Mari, the owner could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Also, the property is excellently located between Woodstock and Saugerties, so perfect for visiting two delightful towns. Also, because it is wooded and has a stream, it was so peaceful. I can imagine it being beautiful in the Spring and Summer when everything is in bloom.

Saugerties -Esopus River
Car: necessary

Our 1850's farmhouse sits on a quiet country road where 2 small streams connect. The porch overlooks the yard with lilacs, forsythia and peonies. A short walk across the stream brings you to the vegetable garden with tomatoes and herbs ready to be picked. Out by the barn a tree swing and hammock with a mountain view beckon. Though the house is in a remote location we are just minutes to the center of famed Woodstock--known for its 'hippie' vibe, music and art scene--join the weekly drum circle. In the other direction is downtown Saugerties where you will find an historic river town-its many antique shops a testament to it's rich history. The beauty of this area is well documented by the Hudson River School painters--Kaaterskill Falls and Thomas Cole's house Olana are nearby. Fishing and tubing in the Esopus, hiking and skiing, boating and swimming at sandy riveredge beaches or local swimming holes as well as golf, and tennis are all close by. Garlic festival-horse shows--here!
