About Owner / Property Manager

When I bought this house in 1992 I was drawn to it's beach caricature, large yard and quietness of the neighborhood. I have upgraded many features in the house over the years, but have maintained its original caricature as well as I could. I am a semi retired RN, married to Jay for 18 years and have one son age 10 named RJ.

Owner / Property Manager purchased this house in 1992

Why Owner / Property Manager chose Florida

I moved to the Jacksonville area in 1990 to be close to the beach. I worked in Jacksonville, but decided to live at the beach. Within 2 yrs I started working at the Beaches Hospital, bought a house and have been a beach girl ever since. The house was built in 1947 and is a standard concrete block house. It has been through a couple of hurricanes with little to no damage and was meant to last. I feel it is meant to be shared also. This is not a high traffic beach town, but a fun, laid back community that is proud of its heritage and loves to enjoy its benefits.

What makes this house unique

Over the 22 years I have lived here the community has grown, because people come here, realize what a gem it is, appreciate the weather, and want to make it their home also. But it is still a great beach area without all the commercialization of some beach communities. I maintain and clean the property, so it will be well taken care of and the towels and sheets will be fresh and clean. Being a nurse, I am meticulous at wiping down surfaces and checking everywhere for dust I can.

We Loved It!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed here for 1 week in January of 2017. We found the house to be very comfortable, well-kept, and well-equipped. We were completely satisfied with the house and everything within it. When we first arrived we found that the hot water was not turned on, but the owner was very responsive and called me within a few minutes of texting. (It makes perfect sense to not always have the water heater on so this was not a negative, but the responsiveness was definitely a positive.)

The neighborhood is fairly quiet considering the urban setting. Walking out to the street, one can look down the road and see Jacksonville Beach. Walking to the beach will take about 10 minutes or only a few minutes by car. Taking the critters out at night I could hear the ocean surf breaking on the beach. Inside, though, it was nice and quiet.

The house is well located with easy access to groceries, car washing, dining out, and dog parks. We brought our Beagle and Redbone Coonhound and regularly visited the Dogwood Dog Park, which was an easy 20-25 minutes away. Of course, our boys enjoyed the backyard as well and had plenty of room to roam around and sniff. As pictures indicate, the backyard is fenced, so we did not have to worry about anyone getting carried away and running off! Atlantic Beach is also about 10 minutes away, so there are plenty of options for walking and enjoying the outdoors.

I would definitely stay here again if we visit Jacksonville in the future and highly recommend this as a place to stay for your vacation - especially if you travel with your furry family members.

Owner's Response: Thanks Michael - we enjoyed having y'all stay. Sorry about the hot water heater, but I'm always available and can usually manage issues over the phone. Hope to see you again soon! Lanie

Cluttered, old, cheep

  • 1 of 5

The house was not to our liking. We were not comfortable being in it and left after 3 nights out of 7 nights paid. The house has small rooms with way to much stuff it in. It is way over decorated with stuff everywhere to the point there is no place to put any of your own stuff. The decorating and improvements that were done for the most part were very cheaply done. There were only 2 dinner sized plates in the kitchen, and no broiling pan. We had the 3rd bedroom made up like a king (twin beds put together) which took up 90% of the floor space in the room. You could barely walk around the bed, which was hard to tell from the pictures. The other bedrooms had more space with queen beds in them. The house was very clean and the owner did provide paper products and much of what you would need with toiletries for the bathrooms and some spices, etc. in the kitchen. She tried to make it a nice experience, but the house needs major remodeling and 3/4 of the decorating stuff removed.

Owner's Response: I am still at a loss for words as I was when we spoke on the phone after receiveing the email that you left early. I will allow my history and my guest approval over the past 3 yrs. speak for Lanie's Beach House. My style of decorating is coastal/distressed and some would consider my "old" stuff antiques and rustic which is pretty common and popular around here. My guests appreciate the laid back/beachy/eclectic style while visiting the area, and comments include comfortable and livable-My goal for a Beach House. The house is as pictured so there shouldn't be any surprises, it's a 70 yr old house. To your specific concerns: you chose to stay in the 3rd bedroom (typically the smallest) and said you were cramped-yet you mention the other 2 larger bedrooms with more room. Could they have been ok for a couple of days? There are 8 Pottery Barn dinner plates in the cabinets and while I try to inventory the kitchen at turnover, I didn't realize the broiler was not in its usual spot. Perhaps if you had called me with any concerns, I would have had an opportunity to do my best to accommodate you. At check in your comments included " great, very nice, and I'm sure we will be fine" - you arrived before I did so had time to look around. I realize I cannot make every one happy, but moving forward- for you I suggest you really look at the pictures and please give the owner a chance to remedy/respond to any issues that may arise. Best Wishes to you as a HomeAway guest and I hope you find houses more to your liking. Sincerely, Delaine Lawing LBH

A wonderful home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We booked Lanie's Beach House for 9 days so that we could stay in Jax Beach for some time before & after our daughter's wedding in Jacksonville. The house was convenient to the wedding venue, to the beach, & to grocery stores & restaurants. It was spacious enough for the 4 bridesmaids, the bride, & the mother of the bride to get ready on the day of the wedding. This is a wonderfully comfortable home in a quiet residential neighborhood about a mile from the beach. Extremely well-stocked kitchen (plenty of dishes, glasses, cookware, utensils, paper products). We didn't make full use of the wonderful backyard because of the extreme heat during our stay (even the locals said that it was hotter than usual) but the grill worked great. And the beds were comfortable. The wifi worked well. We had absolutely no complaints. Delaine is so welcoming and responsive. We have stayed in many vacation homes and this one was one of the best. We didn't really want to leave, and we'll definitely considering staying here again when we return to Jax Beach to visit our daughter & our new son-in-law!

Home at the Beach

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Lanie's house. The home is clean, comfortable and spacious. We were a group of six adults and never felt cramped or crowded.

There is also a fun backyard patio with party lights! The house is easy walking distance to the beach and many restaurant choices.

We would absolutely recommend this property to vacationing families desiring some "beach time". Lanie was the perfect host and a pleasure to work with..
