Gentle Winds is a private community located on the North Shore Road on St. Croix with it's own beach, pool, Beach Shack and tennis courts. Our newly renovated condo has three bedrooms each with a king size bed, three full baths and built out closets in each bedroom. The alcove has two twin beds and is great for kids. The maximum we can easily accommodate is six adults. We do have an on island manager who is there to help should you need anything.
We live just outside Washington, DC in Bethesda and have three grown daughters who were raised here. My husband and I met in Vermont and after moving for school and work settled here where we have lived on the same street for 27 years. You could say we love our neighborhood!
Marcia Wagner purchased this condo in 2010
After renting at Gentle Winds for many years we purchased I-8 and did a complete renovation which took a while but it was well worth it. We love to play golf which is what attracted us to the island in the first place and we also enjoy the beach, sailing and hiking.
The setting at Gentle Winds is unique. When you arrive you just exhale because it is so relaxing and beautiful to look at. We chose to be in the I Building because it is closest to the water and has the best views. The beach and the pool are just a stones throw away and the soothing rhythm of the ocean finds you whether you are inside or out.
Property was easy to find from the airport and was not crowded. This condo was clean, in great condition, and well stocked. Loved having snorkel/fins and beach towels in the unit. Power blinked off a couple of times but would always come back on quickly. Always had hot water for showers-even with 3 teens in the house. Perfect size for our family of 5. Beach and pool were clean and beautiful. Enjoyed drinks at the poolside bar. View from balcony was incredible. Rowdy Joes is a short distance away and delicious! Wish we could have stayed longer.
This condo was in the closest building to the beach. It was beautifully decorated with comfortable beds. Our only was complaint was the lack of towels. There were only 4 bath towels and 3 beach towels.
The beach and pool areas were clean and well maintained. There were plenty of chairs and shady areas. The sandy beach was a bit rocky in places. I suggest water shoes for protection and to take a longer walk down the beach. The beach was completely private as there aren't any public areas around.
I would definitely recommend this condo to anyone who likes a quiet vacation.
Thank You Wagner's for renting out your beautiful condo! It was as described. Neat, clean & spacious. Went with hubby and 16 & 13 yr old sons. Beautiful views looking at Caribbean Sea. Comfortable beds. Beach towels provided were luxurious. Coolers, beach bags provided were perfect. We brought our own snorkel gear, but many sets were provided. Auto ice maker didn't work, but trays were provided and we made our own, no problem. The upstairs master bedroom was very warm, but we found an extra fan and had it running into the room. The property was super well kept and beautiful. Pool well maintained, and snack bar served nice food & drinks. There is shuffle board and gas grills as well. The best part was we met some super nice people staying there as well and all hung out for some good times. Things to do a must: Salt River Bay, about 1 minute away by car, Sea-Thru Kayak Tour in the bay to see bioluminescent life and jelly fish that glow, you hold in your hands and does not sting you. Like nothing else you've ever done or seen. http://seathrukayaksvi.com/Kayak_the_Bioluminescent_Bay_St_Croix.html
Sail to Buck Island with Captain Carl/Captain Heinz. Most beautiful catamaran, guided snorkeling tour, hike to the top for breath taking views of St. Croix.
The water is the turquois blue you see in all the pictures.
Best way to tour the rainforest & have an adventure: ATV's! Gecko ATV Tours is the best. An adventurous ride and captured with a Go-Pro is the best way to tour! We rented a jeep and explored the entire island. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Went to Point Udall, furthest Point East in the US. Absolutely breath taking views of Caribbean and beaches. Rent a vehicle and go see St. Croix for yourself! I would definitely go back!
Thank You Wagner's!

We loved our stay at this property. It is beautifully decorated, well stocked and very clean. It was a pleasant surprise that she had snorkels, fins and masks so we had a blast snorkeling. She also provided plenty of beach towels and bath towels. The condo is in a perfect location in the community as it overlooks the ocean and the pool. The pool is so pretty at night with all the colored lights. The only issue was the refrigerator struggled to get really cold but the freezer worked great. We would highly recommend this property as it wasn't crowded when we were there (June) so it was very quiet and peaceful. We'd spend the morning enjoying the pool and the beach. We rented a car (do note the street signs all around St. Croix are terrible so pick up a good map at the airport) and spent the afternoon touring the island to see other resorts and beaches. We were very happy to come back to this resort community at the end of a long day out exploring.
If you are looking for a peaceful private beach house with all the amenities, this is for you. The grounds are immaculate. The condo itself is very comfortable and upscale. The pool is perfect. The view and sounds of the ocean are spectacular. They even have a large gas barbecue and entertainment room in the clubhouse. And if you are a shell collector, they have a lots of tiny shells and very nice chunks of brain coral. Did I mention snorkeling in the private beach? If you want to leave this paradise and explore the historical sites on the island, that is fun too. A couple people in our group are scuba divers and said this was by far their best dives yet. They swam with sharks among other things. Incredible! My family of 8 (parents in their 70s, kids in their 20s and siblings in their 40 and 50s) are trying our best to return next year. This is our perfect vacation getaway. Thank you for providing a perfect vacation!
I love driving into a property that welcomes you with palm tree lined roads and a gorgeous view...and this is Gentle Winds. Very pretty. We were very happy to learn that the condo was in one of the buildings closest to both the beach and the pool. Super convenient with a fantastic view. The condo was beautifully decorated and well appointed with kitchen wares, towels and beachtowels. We loved having so much more space after 5 days in a hotel and access to a washer /dryer was valuable.
Our disappointing factors might not be an issue for everyone, but they were for us. First and foremost, while the glass doors in the family room offer an amazing view of the water, they did not have any kind of shades or drapes to block the relentless sun at sunset. One main reason for moving to a condo was to be able to eat meals at home. The sun was beating on us from 5-7 in the family room and at the table right at 6 o'clock when we were trying to eat dinner. The owners seem conscientious about being conservative with energy usage, so I'm not sure why they have uncovered windows.
Second, as a result of the uncovered windows, the second floor is quite warm despite ac. There is no intake vent so the hot air sits up there. The ceiling fan helped.
Lastly, the beach is right outside the door and is beautifully groomed, offering chairs and small huts for shade. It looks wonderful. However, if you have kids wanting to swim, this is a difficult location for swimming and snorkeling. The beach is very steep into the water causing the waves to crash harshly which could be dangerous. The areas where the entrance is more gradual is loaded with jagged rocks. My kids are young teens and great swimmers and I wouldn 't let them swim. We went to Cane Bay instead, which is awesome!
Gentlewinds is a great location for access to both the north shore and Christiansted. If you are planning to primarily eat out at night and sunbathe by a QUIET pool with a pretty beach behind you by day, then this is your place!
