Christmas on the Beach at Departure Bay.

Our family of four, (my wife and I plus our adult son and daughter) live in Sydney, Australia, and we were returning to Vancouver Island to spend Christmas with my family and our friends in Nanaimo. With three bedrooms, three bathrooms, laundry, attached garage, the Seaview Beach House on Departure Bay was the perfect place for us to be self-sufficient during our two week holiday. The location is fantastic. Situated right on the beach and with expansive views of Departure Bay and the Coast Mountains from the windows across the full width of the living area and master bedroom, the outlook is jaw-dropping. We never tired of watching the ferries and float-planes coming and going. We also saw seals, otters, snow geese and other wildlife right from the windows. Everything we could possibly need was there with a completely stocked kitchen, wood for the fireplace, telephone, cable TV, Wifi and even a Christmas tree and decorations. We cooked Christmas dinner for 11 and comfortably sat everyone. It's a very warm, comfortable and tastefully furnished home that's great for entertaining. We had many walks along the beach and had it been a bit warmer we may have taken out the bikes and canoe in the garage. The deck and bbq area overlooking the beach would be great for relaxing in warmer weather. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner and all the little touches helped make it a very memorable holiday for all of us. We had such a good time, we'll have to find a way to come back again sometime in the summer. I would highly recommend this property.

The absolute perfect place for ambiance , comfort and location.

Lovely comfortable home with a fantastic ocean frontage. Listen to the waves crash just 50 feet away, sipping on your wine in the evening , or a hot coffee in the morning. Beautifully decorated with everything one needs. Excellent location to get to anywhere easily and the owner is incredibly helpful and genuine. Loved being here for a month.

Exceeded our expectations!!

My son was getting married at the end of August, so our family needed a house close to the golf course venue. From the moment we walked in, I knew Seaview was the perfect choice for our group of six.

This comfortable and tastefully decorated house is so much nicer than the online photos depict and everyone immediately felt right at home. My sister loves to cook and the well appointed kitchen really is a chef's dream. The bathroom and laundry amenities were a welcome touch as well.

The view is incredible and sitting on the deck with morning coffee was a wonderful way to start the day. It was great to watch the ferries and float planes come and go, as well as the varied wildlife in the area. Our aunt from Quebec thoroughly enjoyed walking along the beach searching for seashells.

Besides the great location on Departure Bay, Seaview is also close to shopping and restaurants. The in-house pamphlets are a great help for those not familiar with Nanaimo or the island. Bella Nail Salon, just up the street, was able to take us on short notice......really nice atmosphere & employees. If out in Coombs, I recommend a visit to Bamboozle, which is just a couple of minutes from the Old Country Market & Goats on the Roof. Ladies clothing and accessories, as well as a tea house.

Also, I wish we still had a dog!! This house is dog friendly and supplies everything imaginable for the dog owner, so don't worry if you forget something.

Su was such a pleasure to deal with, extremely helpful and friendly. Seaview is a very well managed property and definitely contributed to the great time we had in Nanaimo.

Wonderful Girls Getaway ...

We just returned from Seaview and I have to say it was a PERFECT week away. The home is so lovely and the location is right on the beach. It was so inviting that is was hard to go out when we wanted to explore the area around Nanaimo. Having the open floor plan on the main floor offered an ocean view from every corner of the kitchen to livingroom . The view from the main bedroom on the 2nd floor is spectacular and I was tempted to move the bed so I could see the mainland mountains and sunrise from from the pile of fluffy pillows in the morning. The deck was terrific and was a great place to sit and watch the seals and the family of otters that frequent the area. Including the otters that come up on the deck. Celebrated my birthday watching and photographing the otters at close range. So exciting. The house has absolutely everything you could possibly need and then some. A real find for a vacation home. Su was also helpful in so many ways . It was nice to know someone was close to lend us a hand. The binder that Su had put together was very helpful with ideas of places to shop,etc. We found a few local pubs , the Crow and Gate and the Dinghy Dock Pub , and a few local parks , especially Neck Point Park, and would highly recommend these . Also take in the Yellow Point farmer's market ,the Yellow Point Cranberry farm , and the Blue Heron park all located in the same area as the Crow and Gate Pub. Would recommend NOT trying to get into the pub on the same day as the farmer's market... unless you go right when they open! Need groceries or forgot shampoo? Shopping in the area is not a problem. Again, everything that you could imagine is within a short drive. We went up to Courtenay for a nice day trip. Had lunch at the Atlas restaurant and a nice walk along the estuary by the Air Park. This was a great side trip and we all enjoyed the drive along the old island highway on the way back. We also took Su's advise and went for a nice foot massage at a local business on the bay...great reflexology treatment by Heather . Loved the island and the fabulous vacation home on Departure Bay. Can't say enough about the cleanliness and inviting set-up of this West Coast vacation rental . We all felt right at home and would love to return to celebrate another Girls Get-away. Maybe for my birthday next year.....

Beautiful and perfect for our wedding week!

I can’t even begin to describe our gratitude for Su and the beautiful Seaview home! I was getting married in the area and had no idea where to get services for the bridal party for tans, nails, hair, flowers, cake, etc. Su actually became my personal wedding planner, responding immediately to any emails and sending me loads of information and referrals. I can’t say enough about how much she contributed to reducing my stress and making our wedding week in Nanaimo the best we could possibly ever imagine! Not only were all the services perfect and exactly what we were looking for, but the Seaview home was more than we could ever have imagined! The pictures are beautiful online, but in person, it is the most comfortable, beautiful, accommodating home you can hope for…. and the view!!! My family has already decided we want to make this an annual tradition and stay in one of Su’s homes every year!! There is so much to see and do in the area but just enjoying coffee or a glass of wine on the deck was heaven!! Cheers to Su!

Beautiful Holiday Home 19th-27th June 2015

Su's knowledge and advice was invaluable and helped make our holiday perfect and memorable. We took the sea plane from Vancouver to Departure Bay, as suggested, and will never forget the first glimpse as we banked steeply to land, stunning. Then, the house----- as we entered the bright sunlit lounge to soft music and the sea views, well, a real wow moment for us all! Su had pre bought our evening meal and supplies for the next few days, so all we needed to do was settle in and begin to enjoy our holiday. The beachside house was the perfect base to explore beautiful Vancouver Island, which we did, doing something different each day. Sitting on the decking on return, to dine al-fresco and enjoy the wonderful view was the perfect end to each day. The house is extremely well appointed, everything we could need thoughtfully provided by Su.

Thank you for making our holiday one we will remember always.

An Ideal Mid-Island Location

Departure Bay is a mere 1.5 kilometers from shopping and dining with a number of restaurants within walking distance of the house. Nanaimo is a thriving community of parks, beaches, charming eclectic shops, waterfront walks, marinas and myriad dining choices from fine to casual, plus all the modern convenience needed for an enjoyable stay. These include grocery stores, gas stations, libraries, theatres, restaurants and delis, specialty food shops, spas, doctors and dentists, massage therapists and beauty salons.

The city of Nanaimo sits mid-Island and is a central arrival and departure point for BC Ferries to the BC Mainland. There is also an airport , or you can come and go via seaplane (Harbour Air, Seair Seaplanes or Westcoast Air) into Nanaimo Harbour from downtown Vancouver or Vancouver International Airport. The seaplane trip is only 20 minutes!

The TransCanada Highway (Hwy #1) runs directly through the heart of Nanaimo. From here you can venture north to Mount Washington, Courtenay and Comox, west to Tofino or south to the Cowichan Valley and Victoria. Please see below for links to information about the area:
