About Lisa Freeman

My husband is local and I am from Michigan, joined the service and landed in Hampton Virginia. We love the area and being on the water, no two days are alike. Managing this property since 2009 as well as other properties in the area and rental at beautiful Lake Gaston. We love what we do. Husband is retired and this keeps up busy and managing this property we are able to meet wonderful people from all over the world. We love to travel as well.

Lisa Freeman purchased this house in 2003

Why Lisa Freeman chose Willoughby Spit

This house is like being out to sea on a ship. The water is so close. The location makes for wonderful breezes in the summer, (zero insects). The views will take your breath away. Close to 5 cities (all within 20 minutes)! We love the area, especially walking on the beach collecting shells and sea glass. City of Norfolk is nice to visit, safe and not too large, USS Wisconsin, a fabulous botanical gardens and a zoo. premier outlet mall, all packed into our city of 280,000. Don't forget Water Country USA in Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. Lots to do.

What makes this house unique

Guestbook comments from the owner

Gorgeous home with wonderful sunsets. Location is great for visiting the surrounding area. We walked the 7 mile beaches everyday with our dog Sammy. Used the kayaks on small beach behind house. We found the house to everything we needed.

Many historical sites such as Yorktown Battle Field, Jamestown settlement, and Williamsburg, as well as Busch Gardens amusement park are only 25 minutes away via interstate 64. Many military bases in the area, my favorite is Fort Story where you can walk into a lighthouse built in 1700's. We have several beautiful beaches in the Tidewater area. Including Virginia Beach with a boardwalk area is a short drive.1 beach on site 50 steps away PLUS two blocks away is a very long, quite beach that is beautiful. Very convenient, no parking fees and great by East Coast standards. See video in photo section of this ad. There are two restaurants, one 3 min walk, another 10 minutes. Many nice shops are located in Norfolk, Williamsburg and Virginia Beach.

This home was very nice!

  • 5 of 5

My family really enjoyed our stay here! We had plenty of room for the 6 of us and the home was equipped with everything we needed to have a comfortable and fun stay away from home! Oceanview beach was very nice and quiet, but we also enjoyed Virginia Beach when we wanted to have more of the fast passed and busy touristy experience.

Dissappointed - The pictures are nicer than the house

  • 3 of 5

PROS -  location to sites--takes pets- bay view was nice

CONS- too many steps to tote luggage - beach down the road- upkeep/cleanliness of house was poor - to many housekeeping duties- old bedlinens- no sense of feng shui,  a Sheldon Cooper rental agreement - archaic check only payment plan (goodbye credit card points and VRBO sense of  security).

We had a very good time - very relaxing right on the water

  • 4 of 5

We had never rented a house before, so this was a new experience for us, being an older couple we were looking for a relaxed comfortable place near the water and this was it. Beautiful home and near places we wanted to visit, like Virginia Beach, James Town Settlement, Virginia Aquarium, and the boat trips to see the dolphins. The only draw backs for us was the helicopter and jet noise and stairs, but we expected the stairs. The sunsets were unbelievably beautiful. Stanley, the goose was entertaining and he brought his friends each day for nibbles of bread. The owners were great and we recommend staying in their properties. Pete & Sharon Collyge

House is functional and is equipped but had some issues

  • 3 of 5

Roof work had to be done this week, which did impact our stay one day. Also had to fix a few things while I was there. Owners are very nice and were apologetic which helped! We did have a nice time though. Sunsets were amazing on back deck!!!

Owner's Response: Very sorry about the storm damage to the roof, which impacted your stay. We inspect the property between visitors. I believe you repaired a vacuum, however we do have two, one for each floor. Thank you.

First time kayaking was great on the calm waters of the bay.

  • 3 of 5

While we enjoyed the house overall, it as clean and well equipped, the area was not what I expected. Also the wifi is really difficult to access as you really do need to be at the dining table because you are using the neighbors signal.. Also if it had been a really hot week, the air conditioning would not have been able to keep up. The owners live close by and stopped by a few too many times for our comfort.

Owner's Response: We have upgraded the WiFi. We check on our guests once during their stay. We are glad you enjoyed the kayaks.
