The facilities, the decor, the comfort was all top notch. As well, the setting - at the edge of the river - was fantastic. We wish we had had more time, outside our busy activity schedule, just to enjoy our beautiful vacation home!
We spent a wonderful week in Iceland in July. The country is by far the most beautiful location we have ever visited from a nature's perspective, and Valdis' home was the perfect base camp for exploring it! The house is stunning; set between a birch grove and a river, it has large windows that let in tons of light and bring into the living area the peaceful views that surround you. It is beautifully appointed and very clean, with everything you may need for your stay. We are a family of four and we cooked dinners at home often; there is a supermarket in town with the basics and the kitchen has every implement you may need. Violette, Valdi's friend that showed us the property, is the sweetest person in the world. Don't miss the opportunity to visit her art studio, where you can find beautiful jewelry, porcelain and even clothes! And Valdis is a wonderful host; the Icelandic White Ale that was in her welcome basket became our new favorite beer in the world!. From the house you can comfortably visit the Golden Circle, Reykjavik as well as the blue lagoon. I love the outdoors, and the house let me feel like I was camping in the most luxurious of settings. And the 24 hours of daylight... I could not believe I was sitting outdoors at 9 pm, listening to the river sounds and reading a book; so peaceful. We loved our stay in this property and would definitively come back if our travels find us in Iceland again!
Before I forget, Valdis was very easy to work with; the reservation process was a breeze and it was very refreshing to work with somebody that values your word as much as any contract. Thank you for sharing your home Valdis! If for some strange reason you decide to visit Houston, give us a call!
This place was fabulous for us. Honestly after driving through Iceland for a few days we all agreed that this was probably the nicest house was had seen! It was very large and spacious, pictures don't do it justice!
We had everything we needed to cook and relax. Violette who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the bathrooms had what we needed. Like other reviewers have said, do not miss the Hot River Walk! What an experience.
Couple of tips if this is your first time in Iceland, buy alcohol when you arrive in the Duty free store, It's cheaper than the government regulated stores and is always open. Secondly, grocery stores and restaurants have particular hours and we had a hard time finding some restaurants that were open! Varma is a hotel down the road the only place open for breakfast, and we also had a great dinner there too. It's top notch. Otherwise, cook at the house! Cheers!
Thank you for sharing your home with us!
If anything, this house was undersold - it was spotless, well laid out and appointed, and very comfortable for our family of 5. The location was great - we used this as "home base" and looked forward to "coming home" at the end of a busy day. Communication about the home, the check in time and information was excellent - we appreciated flexibility in allowing us to check in a little early so we could make our tour.
We enjoyed many restaurants in town - people were accommodating for kids and food was good. We also liked playing on the sand volleyball courts and swimming in the nearby pool (easy walking distance).
I would absolutely recommend this home to anyone else - and hope sometime we can return to Iceland and stay here again!
Wir hatten einen prima Urlaub in Island. Das Haus und die Vermieter kann ich nur sehr empfehlen.
This is a truly lovely home in a beautiful setting. I have stayed in VRBO's around the world many times (over 20) and this is one of my favorites. Do yourself a favor and stay here. Nice town. Don't miss the Hot River walk!

Brúarhvammur, is within the town of Hveragerði, the hot spring capital of the world. The reason is geothermal heat the town is built above a hot-spring field, only 45 km away from Reykjavik.
The house is 255 m2 with an open family/kitchen area. It features 2 rooms (sleeps 6 easily) and 2 bathrooms. The spacious deck is wonderful for outdoor enjoyment, as well as the property itself, which is 3500 m2.
Few communities in the world can claim to have an active thermal site in the centre of town. Hveragerði´s, most precious gem is it´s geothermal park. There can not be many towns in the world with hot springs literally in peoples back yard. The geothermal park is centrally located and is open every day in the summer time. A natural clay foot bath can be enjoyed in the park and afterwards you can soak your feet in one of the hot springs.
The last weekend in june Hveragerði host an annual flower show that shows all the best from Icelandic gardening og horticulture. You wouldn´t miss it for the world.
The swimming pool at Laugaskarð is renowned for its lovely setting as well as excellent facilities, including hot pots, whirlpool pot and a natural steam bath. The pool is heated with steam coming directly from the ground and because of this many consider it to be good for your health.
Walkways and footpaths within town limits are excellent. Somewhat to the north of town is one of the country’s largest geothermal areas, Hengill, where plumes of steam can be seen for miles. Hiking and riding trails stretch from the town throughout Ölfusdalur valley, into the Hengill volcanic area and all the way to the Nesjavellir geothermal area and Þingvellir National Park. Along the way are warm springs where bathing is possible.
