Experience authentic Santa Fe. Located very close to the Plaza and Canyon Road, Casa De Colores is a traditional Santa Fe adobe home featuring vigas in most rooms, latillas in an expansive kitchen, indoor and outdoor kiva fireplaces, portal and New Mexican accents throughout. The original date of construction is unknown but the house was extensively remodeled in 2006 with venetian plaster, in-floor radiant heat and kitchen upgrades. The main house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The casita is a studio with a small galley kitchen. Both houses have washer and dryer.

A portal spans the entire front of the house for cool summer evenings and morning coffee. An outdoor patio with kiva fireplace and barbecue off of the master bedroom is a guest favorite for outdoor meals. The yard is landscaped with xeric natives species, including chamisa, aspen and piñon. There are up to 4 off-street parking spots depending on the size of the vehicles.

The house is walking distance to the spa at La Posada, or a short drive to 10,000 Waves in the foothills of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. It is about 30 minutes from the casa door to the lift at Ski Santa Fe.

About Leigh Plesniak

I grew up on the east coast in a suburban community of New York. I've been in the West since I attended graduate school in San Diego, where I now live with my family. I was a Chemistry & Biochemistry Professor at the University of San Diego for many years but retired to spend more time with my family and to develop science enrichment activities for K-12 grades.

Leigh Plesniak purchased this house in 2012

Why Leigh Plesniak chose Santa Fe

We have visited Santa Fe many times over the years as a family and I knew exactly where I wanted to buy a house. We are thrilled with this location. It's peaceful, has a rustic rural feel but we are minutes walking to the heart of Santa Fe, the plaza. We walk to restaurants, galleries and museums. We hike up the arroyo trails right out of the neighborhood into Ft. Marcy park. La Posada is nearby (0.5 mile) for a drink on the patio or a massage at the spa. We can take the shuttle to the Albuquerque airport or to the Opera from nearby the hotels.

What makes this house unique

Normally not an adventurous decorator, the Casa was finished with vibrant colors in the plaster walls. The colors gave me the license to be more playful with the art and furnishings. Our home is decorated with the art from a good friend's gallery in Albuquerque (Sumner & Dene) and from art that friends of ours have made. The natural burl edge kitchen table was crafted by a friend from a eucalyptus tree that was destined for the landfill, victim to a construction project in Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego County.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Comment: Ten family members (three adult siblings, spouses, 2 kids, and 2 70-year-old parents of the siblings) stayed here for a long weekend and a trip to the opera, galleries, restaurants, etc... santa fe is a great place to visit, this house's location was great, and we enjoyed having a place to cook meals and relax between activities. - Flagstaff AZ United States

A wonderful place to stay to visit the beautiful city of Santa Fe. Surpassed all of our expectations

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for all of us-6 women. Plenty of space for 8 people. All amenities to enjoy the space , sleep comfortably, cook and gather around a great family table to enjoy meals and talk about our wonderful day enjoying Santa Fe. The house can sleep 6 easily and there is a wonderful casita with a king size bed for 2 more. I stayed in the casita and it was so peaceful and well equipped. The house is I n the middle of an adobe community but was very quiet. Because the numbers on the houses are not in numerical order it was a little difficult to find but that gave us some good laughs! We went into town twice - beautiful town with great shops. Recommend going on a Saturday when they close the streets off for a little festival and the Pueblos are selling beautiful jewelry and artwork. There are plenty of places to enjoy a great meal also. We spent some time hiking on the wonderful trails in the area. I contacted the owners with a few questions and they were friendly and available. Had a great time at Cas de Colores and Santa Fe is a wonderful city to visit!

Loved it. Beautifully decorated and very authentic Santa Fe.

We were a party of seven and we all felt the house was charming. We enjoyed wine by the outdoor kiva and breakfast on the veranda. We appreciated the little decorative touches and the beautiful paintings. The casita was equally comfortable. The walk to the galleries on Canyon Road and downtown was easy.

Suited our multi-generational needs well.

  • 4 of 5

We were a group of 7 which included an 8 yr old, his parents, and both sets of grandparents. We all fit comfortably with sufficient privacy. The house is located minutes from the plaza and is an easy drive to anywhere else you might want to go in Santa Fe. The master bathroom in the house itself is quirky (brick floor that never really looked clean but was probably as clean as brick can look, dark shower stall so don't try to shave your legs in the shower, and no door, only a curtain between the en suite bathroom and bedroom ). Also, for a house than can hold 8 people comfortably it has the world's smallest dishwasher! I've seen apartment dishwashers that were bigger. If we all ate breakfast, the dishwasher was full after that meal. If you're going to eat out all the time, as we ended up doing after that one breakfast together, the size of the dishwasher won't matter. We enjoyed our stay despite the few things mentioned above.

Owner's Response: Thank you Kathryn for your thoughts. My cabinets were literally 1" too small for a regular size dishwasher. The next size down is a more expensive KitchenAid dishwasher. I find that it does a great job for glasses and plates, including wine glasses but pots and pans take up more space than are worth it. I cook holiday meals in this house each year. The kitchen is well-stocked with nearly every appliance that you could need etc. I love my master suite, the clean lines looking up through the sky light from the shower and the brick floor fits in Santa Fe. It seems that my house doesn't align with your tastes. Most guests comment on the quality of the original artworks and the Santa Fe design. Best.

Perfect southwest rental

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful , comfortable, and well equipped home! Great location, walking distance to plaza. Lovely artwork and great southwest architecture. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here for a week and exploring this amazing part of the country. If you like to run, hike, or bike, check out the large Dale Ball network of great trails nearby. Be sure to go to Taos Pueblo, and also Abiquiu to see Georgia O'Keeffe's home and studio, then to her museum in Santa Fe; what a remarkable woman!
