Experience authentic Santa Fe. Located very close to the Plaza and Canyon Road, Casa De Colores is a traditional Santa Fe adobe home featuring vigas in most rooms, latillas in an expansive kitchen, indoor and outdoor kiva fireplaces, portal and New Mexican accents throughout. The original date of construction is unknown but the house was extensively remodeled in 2006 with venetian plaster, in-floor radiant heat and kitchen upgrades. The main house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The casita is a studio with a small galley kitchen. Both houses have washer and dryer.

A portal spans the entire front of the house for cool summer evenings and morning coffee. An outdoor patio with kiva fireplace and barbecue off of the master bedroom is a guest favorite for outdoor meals. The yard is landscaped with xeric natives species, including chamisa, aspen and piñon. There are up to 4 off-street parking spots depending on the size of the vehicles.

The house is walking distance to the spa at La Posada, or a short drive to 10,000 Waves in the foothills of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. It is about 30 minutes from the casa door to the lift at Ski Santa Fe.

About Leigh Plesniak

I grew up on the east coast in a suburban community of New York. I've been in the West since I attended graduate school in San Diego, where I now live with my family. I was a Chemistry & Biochemistry Professor at the University of San Diego for many years but retired to spend more time with my family and to develop science enrichment activities for K-12 grades.

Leigh Plesniak purchased this house in 2012

Why Leigh Plesniak chose New Mexico

We have visited Santa Fe many times over the years as a family and I knew exactly where I wanted to buy a house. We are thrilled with this location. It's peaceful, has a rustic rural feel but we are minutes walking to the heart of Santa Fe, the plaza. We walk to restaurants, galleries and museums. We hike up the arroyo trails right out of the neighborhood into Ft. Marcy park. La Posada is nearby (0.5 mile) for a drink on the patio or a massage at the spa. We can take the shuttle to the Albuquerque airport or to the Opera from nearby the hotels.

What makes this house unique

Normally not an adventurous decorator, the Casa was finished with vibrant colors in the plaster walls. The colors gave me the license to be more playful with the art and furnishings. Our home is decorated with the art from a good friend's gallery in Albuquerque (Sumner & Dene) and from art that friends of ours have made. The natural burl edge kitchen table was crafted by a friend from a eucalyptus tree that was destined for the landfill, victim to a construction project in Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego County.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Comment: Ten family members (three adult siblings, spouses, 2 kids, and 2 70-year-old parents of the siblings) stayed here for a long weekend and a trip to the opera, galleries, restaurants, etc... santa fe is a great place to visit, this house's location was great, and we enjoyed having a place to cook meals and relax between activities. - Flagstaff AZ United States

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Casa de Colores was the perfect place for us! Even though we arrived after dark, we had no problem finding the house due to the excellent directions given by Mike M. While the home could comfortably sleep eight, the four of us enjoyed having the privacy of our own bedrooms and sharing the spacious and beautifully decorated living/dining areas. We stayed five nights and wished we had planned to stay longer. Our days in Santa Fe were spent shopping, going to museums, visiting galleries, and enjoying excellent dining experiences. The Shed and Harry's Roadhouse were favorites. We also traveled to Taos on one day. I highly recommend this property.

Beautiful Santa Fe adobe home. Comfortable & beautifully decorated.

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable & stylish home for dinners & movies at the house. Plenty of room for all 5 of us to spread out & have some privacy. We enjoyed the outside fireplace with wine & appetizers one cool evening, set under a string of lights; talked & laughed for hours. A very beautiful setting. The house is an easy walk to the plaza & the historic downtown area. Plenty of restaurants & shops there. One day we walked over for a walking tour of the famed galleries on Canyon Road. Santa Fe is an easy day trip to Taos & its world heritage site, the 1,000 year old Taos Pueblo. We also took a day trip to Bandolier National Monument, a gorgeous setting with a lovely walk along the canyon seeing the ancient petroglyphs & dwellings carved in the side of the cliffs. We also visited the Bradbury Museum in Los Alamos, we needed more time to really see all they had on display, we only had about 1.5 hours after our hike at Bandolier. We want to visit Santa Fe again & would love to stay at Casa De Colores!

Everything you would expect and more......

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect house to experience Santa Fe and the area . We were in town for my son's wedding in September. There were family and friends in town from all over the country and the house provided a perfect location for people to stop by. The house has great gathering areas in and out for everyone to be together. The architecture of the house is true to the area and a real treat for those looking for the southwest experience. The house in and out couldn't be in better condition, is equipped with everything you could think of, and is furnished beautifully. I can't say enough good things about our experience in the house and dealing with the owner.

Lovely Santa Fe Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with a group of 7 adults and there was plenty of space for all! The property is beautiful, with ample outdoor seating to enjoy in the enclosed courtyard. Walking distance to the plaza if you are able to walk up a bit of a hill to get back home. The home was clean and comfortable. Thank you!

So Close to Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, roomy, comfortable, easy commute to Plaza. Outdoor spaces are very welcoming and we spent maybe 80% of our awake, at home time outside! Quiet, relaxed, and completely enjoyable!

Would surely return. Would recommend. Very easy and nice communication with owner.
