Experience authentic Santa Fe. Located very close to the Plaza and Canyon Road, Casa De Colores is a traditional Santa Fe adobe home featuring vigas in most rooms, latillas in an expansive kitchen, indoor and outdoor kiva fireplaces, portal and New Mexican accents throughout. The original date of construction is unknown but the house was extensively remodeled in 2006 with venetian plaster, in-floor radiant heat and kitchen upgrades. The main house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The casita is a studio with a small galley kitchen. Both houses have washer and dryer.

A portal spans the entire front of the house for cool summer evenings and morning coffee. An outdoor patio with kiva fireplace and barbecue off of the master bedroom is a guest favorite for outdoor meals. The yard is landscaped with xeric natives species, including chamisa, aspen and piñon. There are up to 4 off-street parking spots depending on the size of the vehicles.

The house is walking distance to the spa at La Posada, or a short drive to 10,000 Waves in the foothills of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. It is about 30 minutes from the casa door to the lift at Ski Santa Fe.

About Leigh Plesniak

I grew up on the east coast in a suburban community of New York. I've been in the West since I attended graduate school in San Diego, where I now live with my family. I was a Chemistry & Biochemistry Professor at the University of San Diego for many years but retired to spend more time with my family and to develop science enrichment activities for K-12 grades.

Leigh Plesniak purchased this house in 2012

Why Leigh Plesniak chose Santa Fe

We have visited Santa Fe many times over the years as a family and I knew exactly where I wanted to buy a house. We are thrilled with this location. It's peaceful, has a rustic rural feel but we are minutes walking to the heart of Santa Fe, the plaza. We walk to restaurants, galleries and museums. We hike up the arroyo trails right out of the neighborhood into Ft. Marcy park. La Posada is nearby (0.5 mile) for a drink on the patio or a massage at the spa. We can take the shuttle to the Albuquerque airport or to the Opera from nearby the hotels.

What makes this house unique

Normally not an adventurous decorator, the Casa was finished with vibrant colors in the plaster walls. The colors gave me the license to be more playful with the art and furnishings. Our home is decorated with the art from a good friend's gallery in Albuquerque (Sumner & Dene) and from art that friends of ours have made. The natural burl edge kitchen table was crafted by a friend from a eucalyptus tree that was destined for the landfill, victim to a construction project in Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego County.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Comment: Ten family members (three adult siblings, spouses, 2 kids, and 2 70-year-old parents of the siblings) stayed here for a long weekend and a trip to the opera, galleries, restaurants, etc... santa fe is a great place to visit, this house's location was great, and we enjoyed having a place to cook meals and relax between activities. - Flagstaff AZ United States

Return Visit - Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful six night stay - our second at Casa de Colores. This lovely property is tucked away in a convenient hillside neighborhood -- a peaceful and relaxing place to to enjoy New Mexican ambience and beauty. Enjoyable 15 minute walk to plaza. The house and casita are beautifully decorated and comfortably furnished - including great beds and nice bedding. Kitchen is very well equipped. We enjoyed breakfast and bebidas outside each day, walking the old town, and occasional siestas after big adventures. Owner Leigh is very responsive. We love northern New Mexico and will return to Casa de Colores. Highly recommend.

Our family of six enjoyed the outstanding Casa De Colores. Plenty of room for all of us and space to get together for meals. Location was close enough to walk to the Plaza and Canyon Road.

Arrive stressed, but leave relaxed!

  • 5 of 5

This is a truly unique Casa and my husband and I enjoy the serenity of 10 days from stresses of daily life!

There is plenty of room for family in the Casa's authentic Santa Fe decor with its huge kitchen, comfortable beds, and spacious gathering areas.

There is even a separate smaller fully furnished house on the property!

Care is taken to keep the Casa stocked with towels, sheets, and all dishes, pots and pans necessary to cook meals.

We enjoy staying right up the hill from all the restaurants, cathedral, museaums, markets, shops, and Canyon Road Art, but removed enough to be in a peaceful dwelling place. There is always plenty to do and see! We plan to return next year for the fifth time!!

A perfect week in Santa Fe

  • 5 of 5

Casa De Colores was the perfect location for our week in Santa Fe. It was everything we hoped it would be, and more. The house and casita are wonderful, as are the private outdoor areas. There were 5 of us (my son, daughter-in-law, two teenaged grandchildren and me). I loved the serenity and privacy of the casita. The house met all our needs, and more: a great kitchen (although we ate out much more than we cooked); a spa-like master bath that my daughter-in-law loved; a perfect place in front of the outdoor kiva fireplace for late evenings. The location is secluded but at the same time only a short drive away from Canyon Road, and the Plaza. (If it were cooler, we would have walked.) If your trip allows, don't miss Bandolier, Los Alamos, Taos Pueblo, Meow Wolf, Tent Rocks, Rancho de las Golondrinas, and lots of time in the Plaza. We have utilized VRBO for a family vacation the last 5 years and this is by far our favorite place.
