Santa Fe House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom divided between a 3BR main house and studio guest house

*** I will not send you an email with a last minute vacancy, requesting that you pay me through sites other than VRBO, HOMEAWAY or VACATION RENTALS ****

Experience authentic Santa Fe. Located very close to the Plaza and Canyon Road, Casa De Colores is a traditional Santa Fe adobe home featuring vigas in most rooms, latillas in an expansive kitchen, indoor and outdoor kiva fireplaces, portal and New Mexican accents throughout. The original date of construction is unknown but the house was extensively remodeled in 2006 with venetian plaster, in-floor radiant heat and kitchen upgrades. The main house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The casita is a studio with a small galley kitchen. Both houses have washer and dryer.

A portal spans the entire front of the house for cool summer evenings and morning coffee. An outdoor patio with kiva fireplace and barbecue off of the master bedroom is a guest favorite for outdoor meals. The yard is landscaped with xeric natives species, including chamisa, aspen and piñon. There are up to 4 off-street parking spots depending on the size of the vehicles.

The house is walking distance to the spa at La Posada, or a short drive to 10,000 Waves in the foothills of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. It is about 30 minutes from the casa door to the lift at Ski Santa Fe.

About Leigh Plesniak

I grew up on the east coast in a suburban community of New York. I've been in the West since I attended graduate school in San Diego, where I now live with my family. I was a Chemistry & Biochemistry Professor at the University of San Diego for many years but retired to spend more time with my family and to develop science enrichment activities for K-12 grades.

Leigh Plesniak purchased this house in 2012

Why Leigh Plesniak chose New Mexico

We have visited Santa Fe many times over the years as a family and I knew exactly where I wanted to buy a house. We are thrilled with this location. It's peaceful, has a rustic rural feel but we are minutes walking to the heart of Santa Fe, the plaza. We walk to restaurants, galleries and museums. We hike up the arroyo trails right out of the neighborhood into Ft. Marcy park. La Posada is nearby (0.5 mile) for a drink on the patio or a massage at the spa. We can take the shuttle to the Albuquerque airport or to the Opera from nearby the hotels.

What makes this house unique

Normally not an adventurous decorator, the Casa was finished with vibrant colors in the plaster walls. The colors gave me the license to be more playful with the art and furnishings. Our home is decorated with the art from a good friend's gallery in Albuquerque (Sumner & Dene) and from art that friends of ours have made. The natural burl edge kitchen table was crafted by a friend from a eucalyptus tree that was destined for the landfill, victim to a construction project in Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego County.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Comment: Ten family members (three adult siblings, spouses, 2 kids, and 2 70-year-old parents of the siblings) stayed here for a long weekend and a trip to the opera, galleries, restaurants, etc... santa fe is a great place to visit, this house's location was great, and we enjoyed having a place to cook meals and relax between activities. - Flagstaff AZ United States

Lovely Santa Fe Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with a group of 7 adults and there was plenty of space for all! The property is beautiful, with ample outdoor seating to enjoy in the enclosed courtyard. Walking distance to the plaza if you are able to walk up a bit of a hill to get back home. The home was clean and comfortable. Thank you!

Beautiful, roomy, comfortable, easy commute to Plaza. Outdoor spaces are very welcoming and we spent maybe 80% of our awake, at home time outside! Quiet, relaxed, and completely enjoyable!

Would surely return. Would recommend. Very easy and nice communication with owner.

Very nice house, convenient to Plaza and everywhere else. Just as pictured online, very quiet.

July and August in Santa Fe were delightful. Operas and World class chamber music, plus great restaurants, art galleries and many events like Indian market and International Folk Art. The garden and outdoor dining at Casa de Colores are wonderful, with very good and convenient shopping. Owner and next door gardener are wonderfully helpful. Housekeeper, Grace, took great care of everything.

Beautiful Property!

  • 5 of 5

Stunning house and casita! Location was perfect. The yard was beautiful with blooming flowers and unbelievably comfortable outdoor living. We stayed outside the entire time we were at the house - there was always a breeze up on the hill and the front patio is always in the shade. Inside the house is beautifully furnished, all of the rooms very large and everything you might need available in the kitchen. The casita was also much larger than expected and perfect for a grandparents hideaway while on vacation with the children and grandchildren.

Walking distance to the Plaza and Canyon Rd - couldn't be more convenient. Very responsive and helpful owner, as well as very friendly and helpful local representative.

Would absolutely love to return to this location - as would all of my entire family!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

A lovely home, offering total bliss by its comforts, and the area’s stunning beauty!

  • 5 of 5

A hard group to please, there were 8 of us driving a 22 day circuit of the Southwest, a university crowd from Puerto Rico with interest in Amerindian/Native American culture, anthropology, history, geology. I took a year planning the route to take us through the “musts” of the area, but more importantly, which guided tours we should choose, what local (rather than chains) businesses, restaurants and hotels among so many to sponsor. We chose wisely when we went with a house rental rather than a hotel in Santa Fe. Although we spent a week (March 28-April 3), in this great house that sleeps 4 couples in modern luxury while retaining all the charm of traditional Santa Fe architecture, and only a 10 min walk from the Historical Plaza, it was not nearly enough! The house is full of amenities, including gallery quality art work, books about the area, and pro-kitchen equipment. I have to go back and stay a month! Great hikes surround the area, amazing pictures to take, and all around, this is one remarkable area. We visited a pottery artist in Acoma, climbed up Sky City (awesome tour led by Turtle!), and got to see the Laguna Pueblo people dance in ceremony. Hiking through Tent Rocks, visiting the myriad of galleries and museums in the area, driving to Rancho de Taos, Taos Pueblo, the Gorge bridge, Ghost Ranch, all were unforgettable experiences. Mrs. Leigh Plesniak—thanks for being such a graceful host and opening your lovely home so those who venture there are in total bliss by its comforts and the area’s stunning beauty! We hope to be back very soon! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

The best of Santa Fe living with all the comforts of home (if you have a very nice home!)

  • 5 of 5

Our three-generation family group, ages 11-76, loved this home and highly recommends it. The house is beautifully appointed with southwestern charm (but absolutely no kitsch). The leather sofas and chairs are very sophisticated, yet actually super comfortable. Entire house well-maintained and immaculate. Laid out with places for-whole group gatherings in the larger areas and more private, smaller spaces for activities like reading, puzzle making and conversation. We love group cooking, and the spacious kitchen is conducive to that. The casita is perfect for the couple wanting to be part of the group but still have a bit more privacy. The wifi worked well in the main house. Excellent beds and a generous supply of high quality sheets and towels. The weather was chilly at night so we enjoyed the fireplaces and plentiful wood supply. We appreciated the individual room radiant heat control because some of us like to sleep in warm rooms and others in cool rooms. One very minor issue - lack of plastic wrap and aluminum foil - was remedied immediately with a call to the owner and a visit from her local representative with a good supply of those, plus new plastic food containers.

All of us greatly enjoyed white water rafting on the Rio Grande, a hot air balloon ride, and the night-time Astronomy Adventure in the desert. Don't miss the amazing Museum for International Folk Art - a world-renowned Santa Fe treasure (incidentally, with a great shop for nice souvenirs). A drive or taxi ride away but well worth it. Canyon Road galleries, the Plaza, La Posada Spa, and many excellent restaurants within pleasant walking distance.

Owner's Response: Wow. Thank you so much for your very kind words. I think you captured my intention when we decorated the house and laid out the furniture. And it sounds like you guys did some activities that I need to try as well.
