Experience the Vineyard the way it used to be. There is nothing between you and the ocean except a few sand dunes. One of the most famous fishing beaches in New England is just steps from your door. Sit on your own private beach and watch a spectacular sunset every night. Please note, I will never ask for a wire transfer for payment.

Beautiful beach and privacy but the camp is not for everyone...

  • 2 of 5

I feel I need to review this property since there are no reviews. Planning and corresponding with owners was easy and professional. We were told up front that it would be rustic and an upgrade from camping. I was totally OK with that, but this camp wasn't what we thought. I traveled with my husband, two kids and our dog. Lets start with the bugs- ticks and cockroaches in the camp. I could deal with the mouse droppings but the roaches and dead ticks on the mattress pads were unacceptable. We are very used to ticks being from NH but they are everywhere, we could barely let the dog out without picking off 6 at a time. To make it worse we ended up bringing roaches home. We are clean people and put all food away but they were still all over and got in one of our bags. Second- the heat, it was a hot week in July and they did supply a lot of fans but there was no shade to escape to on the deck and the house was VERY hot during the day so there was no escape. This is in a very remote spot and the beach privacy is amazing unfortunately the accommodations and lack of attention to detail did not result in a relaxing vacation on the Vineyard as I hoped. For the rate they charge I expected more. I do not mean for this review to hurt the owners but I wish I had a review to go by before renting( my fault for renting without review). We are a easy going no frills needed family but unfortunately I can not recommend this place.

Perfect for what we wanted!

  • 5 of 5

We are two very busy parents who needed a retreat from everything and wanted to sit on a very quiet beach and be in a place that was very remote. This was it! The house is down a long dirt road and surrounded by only a few houses (we had a sedan but a jeep or SUV would have been much better. You need a car to get to this location so be prepared to rent one or bring one.) It's very private and just a short walk over the dunes to a very quiet and private beach. We walked a few miles on the beach every morning to the cliffs and maybe saw 5 people round trip. The house itself is rustic with the shower being outside but it was fine for us. Cell connection was decent (I was worried about this but it was fine). My only complaint was the floors needed to be re-swept and I did this myself when I arrived but like I said, it's rustic and it only took me a few minutes. The water runs brown too...no big deal but something you should be prepared for. They provide plenty of drinking water so it was a non issue. I do one retreat a year with my husband and typically go to the Cliff House in Maine. The Cliff House in Maine is high luxury but its a hotel with lots of people...we wanted a completely different experience and thats what we got and we loved it! This is a very comfortable house with everything you need to have a great vacation. Don't pass it up!

Location amazing.

  • 3 of 5

The location is amazing. If your looking for a quiet place to unplug this is it. Cell service is very spotty so don't count on it. However I was disappointed that when we arrived there was a note that stated you cannot drink the water. This was NOT listed in the description. There is a bottled water cooler in the house and someone did come and leave more bottles during the week but the water is brown. Outdoor shower was fine, water outside very hot, but you are showering with brown water, you are also washing dishes with brown water, there's no way around that. The house has a mouse issue, when we arrived there was a note that stated they leave peppermint oil on little pads to keep the mice out, they were placed in the corners of the kitchen. There was mouse poop all over when we arrived. On the counters, window sills, under the beds, in every corner of the house. We also encountered a few roaches when we were there which was very upsetting. There is an outside grill and they did come during the week to check for propane. There is only a 2 burner hot plate for cooking inside, which can cook eggs etc, but the burner isn't very powerful. The owner was very responsive at getting back to us with questions during the week and was accommodating with the dates we wanted to stay. The beach is totally private. Fishing from the beach was incredible and the water was very calm on this side of the island.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that the mice were such a problem. We have the house treated every spring but it is hard to discern the habits of the mice from year to year or even day to day. Most of the time there is no sign of them and the peppermint keeps any stragglers away. Since reading your review, we have re-treated the house for both mice and bugs( the exterminator assures us it is water bugs, not roaches). The water in this area of the island has a high iron level, thus the yellow tint. We have a whole house filter system and secondary filters on each faucet. Once again weather conditions( drought, flooding, etc.) do affect the water table and, in turn, the wells. Some days it can be barley discernible and others quite noticeable. The water is safe to use, however, we do provide bottled water for drinking. Although there are many challenges in keeping up a 60 year old, uninsulated, wooden structure, we believe that this area of the island is worth preserving as close to the original old feel of Martha's Vineyard as possible while still giving guests modern conveniences. While it is a fine line to hold, we are committed to giving our guests an enjoyable experience and we appreciate your feedback. Again, thank you for your review it was very helpful information. We will be sure to keep a closer eye on these areas of concern.
