About Mark Whaley
I have owned and enjoyed this property for over twenty five years, it is a great place to relax and get away from it all. The natural area where the spring is located attracts various types of wild life. I really enjoy feeding the ducks and when the babies hatch out in the spring it is a wonderful feeling to be able to treat the little ducklings to there first crumbs of bread. There is also a larger lake with fountains directly across the street named Saddle Club Lake. At certain times of the year both ducks and geese visit the property and the surrounding lakes ponds and streams, of which there are many in the area. The facility is quite nice and is located in an upscale, peaceful rural setting. We enjoy hosting family and group events and providing accommodations for our professional guest. I feel confident that you will enjoy The Stone Cottage, Calumet Spring and the peaceful natural environment.
Mark Whaley purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1990
Why Mark Whaley chose Lexington
The Stone Cottage is adaptable to suit your travel needs. The Cottage is located in Lexington and is close to the Kentucky Horse Park, Keeneland and the Red Mile. You will love the location and the detailed stone work and the rural setting. The property is situated across the street from Saddle Club Lake and the Fountains. This makes for a pleasant view as you drive up to the Cottage. You will also see and enjoy many wild critters that come to visit the spring that is on the grounds in the back yard. In this hectic world Calumet Spring provides the proper setting to unwind and relax in a private tranquil setting. Gas and Charcoal grills on the private patio makes the back yard more fun and enjoyable.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
This Convenient location is close to all attractions and the property has quick and easy access to all major roads and access routes. Commuting in and around Lexington is easy from the Stone cottage and the trees in the yard are quite large and mature. They provide adequate shade on hot sunny days. The brick patio is a very private area and is equipped with lawn furniture and out door grills. Guests will also appreciate the wildlife, rabbits, squirrels and the song birds that frequent Calumet Spring to drink and bathe. The colorful birds fill the air with pleasant sounds, quite often it is like a winged symphony as there are so many birds singing and chirping during mating season. Every spring there is a new crop of baby ducks hatched out. Wild ducks come and go daily during the warmer months as they seem to like the fresh spring water. At certain times of the year we also have geese and an occasional Blue Heron that comes to visit the spring as well. The Stone Cottage is country living with in the city of Lexington. If you like privacy and nature you will enjoy your visit to Calumet Spring and the woods / nature area of this three acre property. Sincerely, Mark Whaley

My family and I stayed at the home during Holidays. It was a last minute booking, due to the other home we were set to rent not being as expected. This home overall was ok, needs to be cleaned needs dusting many webs. We also experienced ants in the restroom of the home. The furniture in the home is really old and needs to be updated, beds were being held up by different things underneath. Were the cleaning clothes are located there are plastic bags stuffed in the wall (seem to be covering up holds)? One of the beds upstairs kept falling down, also washed to cover on the beds before sleeping on them due to seeing some kind of hair on them? If the owner get some good cleaning and update furniture then it would be a great home to stay at.
Wonderful place for groups to stay
During the winter, our Middle School and High School horse show teams were competing regionally for a spot at the National Final Horse show being held at KY Horse Park in Lexington in April. Not knowing how many people we would ultimately be bringing, we were looking for a place that could accommodate a large group of people. We found Stone Cottage! Mark was fantastic about working with us given that we were not certain until a month before the national show how many people we would ultimately be bringing. He helped us out with every question and made this whole process so easy. Ultimately the kids had a great time playing in the backyard during down time and enjoyed sleeping upstairs in the finished attic (a novelty to Arizona kids). The parents relished the quiet neighborhood and charm oozing from every corner of the Stone Cottage. I don't think the location could have been more perfect for getting to KY Horse Park. The drive was easy and picturesque. We drove around the country-side looking at the area horse farms, ate some delicious regional fare and overall had a wonderful time. Only problem was we could not stay longer. I would and do recommend the Stone Cottage to any who come to Lexington!
I had rented this home with 4 other women . Two of the women in the group were old friend that lived in Lexington 35 years ago. Four of us had never met. I was a bit concerned about staying in a house instead of a hotel, especially not knowing the area and not knowing some of the guest. The Stone Cottage could not have been more perfect. if was very convenient to every thing. The cottage was a short cab ride from the airport, we were able to walk to get coffee in the morning and had no problem getting an Uber at any time.
The cottage was very clean, spacious and comfortable. The back yard with grill and fire pit was a huge bonus,
Mark the owner was in constant communication with us to make sure we had arrived and everything was in order.
Thank You, for the kind words Mary,
I am please that the accommodations fit your needs. The two levels at the Stone Cottage provides ample square footage and the privacy many of our guests are seeking. Always a pleasure to speak with you... Please contact us should you ever decide to return to the Bluegrass.
Worked Great for a day with family at Keenland and family wedding the following day
My wife's had a family wedding set for the Saturday with our three children and their spouses/ children also invited. So the wife and I wanted to treat our family to a day at Keenland before the wedding and also pick up the tab for the three night stay. Stone Cottage really fit the bill. Five minutes max from Keenland and only 15 minutes from the wedding festivities the next day on north side of Lexington. A lot more time together than staying in a motel, not to mention the cost saving. We rented the entire house and had eight adults with more than enough room. Owner (Mark) was great to work with. Absolutely no issues with payments etc. Highly recommend.
Stone Cottage is perfect for a Lexington Weekend
Our daughter was married in Nicholasville and we needed a suitable spot for family. Stone Cottage was the perfect retreat. We rented both sides for our party of 12 and had ample room and comfort. Staying here allowed us to spend a lot of quality time together during an important event that we couldn't have had in a hotel. We would have needed 5 or 6 hotel rooms, so it was a bargain as well. We really enjoyed using the grill for a cookout and the fire pit for S'mores. It was a perfect venue and we would recommend it to families or friends who want to stay together during any event.
Thanks for the nice review. We strive to make the Stone Cottage feel like home and we appreciate you taking the time to share your families experience during there stay at the Cottage.
Thank you for choosing the Stone Cottage and congratulations on your daughters marriage.
