Mango Groves House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedroom 2 bath plus Loft Bedroom and Office, sleeps up to 8!

PLEASE make sure you read the entire description before deciding to book the Cottage:

The Lake Worth Cottage is a 'Key West Style' home close to downtown Lake Worth nightlife and beach. Privacy-Fenced back yard contains a swimming pool, and poolside gazebo with dining table! I believe the cottage is the perfect for a great family summer vacation!

Please note that the cottage is a 75-year old 1,300sq ft stand-alone home with wood floors and doors, crystal doorknobs, skeleton keys, etc. It is NOT a new house and it is NOT in a new neighborhood. While I have put a lot of work into updating everything, it is and will always be an old house, which is not for everyone. Please make sure you are OK with a house with 'charm' before booking. If you would like a newly constructed house in a golf course community, there are plenty available in other areas of the Palm Beaches.

The cottage is stocked with everything you should need for your beach vacation. Close to the beach-- lots of towels and blankets on hand for the beach or the pool. A closet stocked with lots of games will keep the whole family occupied in case it rains (or as we call it: liquid sunshine)!

The kitchen has been updated with extra-large stainless steel appliances (stove, refrigerator, dishwasher) and stocked with everything you will need for dinner or dinner party -- huge butcher block counter top where the whole family can eat together. Outdoor dining at a large teak table, or at the smaller table in the 'poolside cabana!'

57in television with DirecTV in the living room, High Speed Wireless Internet anywhere in the house or yard -- take your laptop out by the pool!

Closet washer and dryer will keep up with all of the dirty clothes..

** Please note that I am sometimes unable to answer emails or telephone calls during the weekends from April to June and also from May 30- June 9, 2015 -- I am currently in training for AIDS/Lifecycle, a 545-mile bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles which raises money for AIDS/HIV Services.

Cottage residents will use the emergency contact number during this time, but I will be unable to book reservations from my bicycle. I apologize for the inconvenience, but assure you it is for a GREAT cause.

About John

I grew up and spent most of my life in the Palm Beaches, but now divide my time between Florida and California. My canine kids and I were very happy when we lived in Lake Worth full-time and have a lot of good memories there... I love to share the very tropical, laid back style of Lake Worth with visitors from all over the globe!

John purchased this house in 1996

Why John chose Lake Worth

Come and enjoy my little oasis. It is the perfect place to unwind (pool, suntanning, etc) while still staying in touch with the world (close to everything, high-speed internet, etc).

Wonderful cottage in the heart of Lake Worth

  • 5 of 5

My family of four enjoyed this cottage and our stay in Lake Worth. The cottage had comfortable bedding, clean linens and a fully stocked kitchen. There was a great coffee cake and milk in the fridge along with a welcome note when we arrived. There was a phenomenal TV with cable in the living room to relax during the heat of the day. The AC worked wonderful with the highs in the 90s most days and the humidity high. The swimming pool was excellent for a morning swim or really any time of the day. The washer and dryer was nice to have in the home due to our family packing light. There was a great selection of books and games. The house was very clean and well kept, the yard was manicured and the street was quiet. We enjoyed dinners in the screened in sun porch.

We were a mile or so from the beach and went everyday. Downtown Lake Worth was just a few blocks away. We enjoyed some meals at Dave's and Too Jay's in downtown Lake Worth, lunch and brunch at Benny's on the Beach and received our fill of great Cuban cuisine at the newly remodeled Havanas. All this restaurants were centrally located to the cottage along with grocery stores and pharmacies.

We are looking forward to staying here again on our next trip!

A Wonderful Stay in Lake Worth

  • 5 of 5

Highly recommend - better than the description. The owner, John Hannum, was very accommodating and clearly wants his guests to enjoy themselves. The cottage was homey and well-located, with a lot of thoughtful touches - we couldn't have been more comfortable: lots of towels and linens, useful items in the cupboards, interesting decor (loved the blue lights above the kitchen counter stools), huge tv screen, screened in porch, spacious fenced back yard, separate office space, lots of games and books, and everything very clean. And in a real neighborhood; this was such a nice alternative to the sterile, new construction that is built for rental. The location was perfect - less than a mile walk to Publix and CVS, and downtown Lake Worth. A little longer to the beach, but we love to walk so it was great. We were here for several weeks and felt like we belonged. Had lunch or an afternoon snack at Dave's in town on a few occasions while walking the dog - dogs are welcome there and they always brought him water. Breakfast at Benny's on the Beach is a must do at least once (no dogs). It was our great luck to be in Lake Worth for the annual street painting festival - a truly fabulous community party, watching artists transform the main streets into a chalk-on-pavement gallery. Hope to be back.

Really enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. First, in the posting for this cabin I think John does a nice job being very truthful and detailed in describing the condition of the property and its various amenities because we found that the house was very much as he described; old but well cared for. I especially enjoyed the office area and wifi, which allowed me to work remotely for a few days during our stay. The back yard was bigger than I expected from the pictures and I enjoyed daily runs around the quiet neighborhood and to the beach nearby. There are very nice little touches all around which highlight the owner's care (large bookcase, board games, tons of towels, blankets, and pillows) and the cabin was stocked with all of those little things that you don't realize you use until you rent a place that doesn't have them (ie, can opener, corkscrew, bottle opener, wine glasses, batteries, and many other items!!!). The key-lime pie was a wonderful welcome gift! I read through the posting and reviews carefully before booking, so I went into the rental expecting that there would be a few a little hiccups along the way and so I wasn't surprised when they cropped up, but other than the hottub being under repair for the whole week (which was a bummer), every other bump in the road was quite minor in nature and didn't really diminish how much we enjoyed our stay here. It really did feel like a little home away from home and would certainly recommend it! Thank you!

Owner's Response: Hi Dave Thank you so much for the review. I hope it helps people decide whether the cottage is the right place for their vacation..... This is my primary home when I am in Florida so I try to keep it as well cared for as possible, and with the things I would like to have myself when I stay there. On a final note, I fear that after 2 years of intensely fighting with the hot tub repair guy to keep it going, I have decided to abandon the idea of keeping it. The pool is still offers great fun in the back yard, but the hot tub is going to the special recycling facility in the sky. Thanks again for the review, and I hope you will come back and stay again soon.

This is a perfect little cottage t call home if you are staying around relatives. the pool and hot tub are great. didn't use hot tub but it was there and very functional. Grandkids dod use it s couple of times. Kids loved the loft bed. it was huge with plenty of lightning a very comfortable. John the owner was just wonderful. Anything little thing got fixed right away. Like maybe the gardner slacking off a little or the pool guy. they were right there. I would recommend this little older model cottage to anyone short or long stay. I know i'll be back. thank you for sharing your home, John. Maintenance man was wonderful too!!!!!

Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

John explains in full detail about the house is 100% percent correct, and Lake Worth is an eclectic little city in Palm Beach County. If your looking to vacation the Palm Beach caviar and champagne life style for 1 week, then have your limo drive you across the bridge.

The house was perfect! my wife and I lived in Lake Worth before and we loved everything about it, and the house provided us a bit of nostalgia before having kids and moving to Texas. The pool entertained our son when we were not at Lake Worth Beach, the grill was great, the beds were comfy, showers were clean. The best was the availability of the washer and dryer ( A much needed appliance for a beach vacation)

In all it was a great place to set up and relax

Thank you John for you kindness and hospitality

The house is well located and looks good. There were an inordinate amount of small problems but John, the owner, was very responsive in taking care of problems that popped up. A nice stay in a nice little house

Owner's Response: Hi Dorian. Thanks so much for writing the review. I am glad your family had a good time at the cottage, and very sorry for the issues faced while you were there. For the benefit of those reading this review to make decisions about the right vacation rental for them, I would like to elaborate about the issues reported and fixed during the stay... As with any 75+ year old house, there are times when guests will need to contact me in regard to something about the house. Dorian's group experienced WAY more than their share, however (circuit breakers having to be reset, pool requiring more chemicals for an influx of fresh water, cable modem requiring reset). In all of these issues, I am proud only of the fact that each of them were fixed within a very short window of being reported to me (minutes to a few hours). I mention these things specifically in the response because I would like readers to know about the property and to understand what they are renting when they choose the Cottage. I have owned the cottage for the last 17+ years and lived there full-time until 2011. I restored it myself and it is still my home when I am in Florida. It is my only vacation rental property, so there isn't a large property management staff or 'front desk' like a hotel. But I do make sure that guests have good contact information for emergencies and that any and all issues are addressed in a very timely manner. Hope this info helps :-) Thanks! John.
