PLEASE make sure you read the entire description before deciding to book the Cottage:
The Lake Worth Cottage is a 'Key West Style' home close to downtown Lake Worth nightlife and beach. Privacy-Fenced back yard contains a swimming pool, and poolside gazebo with dining table! I believe the cottage is the perfect for a great family summer vacation!
Please note that the cottage is a 75-year old 1,300sq ft stand-alone home with wood floors and doors, crystal doorknobs, skeleton keys, etc. It is NOT a new house and it is NOT in a new neighborhood. While I have put a lot of work into updating everything, it is and will always be an old house, which is not for everyone. Please make sure you are OK with a house with 'charm' before booking. If you would like a newly constructed house in a golf course community, there are plenty available in other areas of the Palm Beaches.
The cottage is stocked with everything you should need for your beach vacation. Close to the beach-- lots of towels and blankets on hand for the beach or the pool. A closet stocked with lots of games will keep the whole family occupied in case it rains (or as we call it: liquid sunshine)!
The kitchen has been updated with extra-large stainless steel appliances (stove, refrigerator, dishwasher) and stocked with everything you will need for dinner or dinner party -- huge butcher block counter top where the whole family can eat together. Outdoor dining at a large teak table, or at the smaller table in the 'poolside cabana!'
57in television with DirecTV in the living room, High Speed Wireless Internet anywhere in the house or yard -- take your laptop out by the pool!
Closet washer and dryer will keep up with all of the dirty clothes..
** Please note that I am sometimes unable to answer emails or telephone calls during the weekends from April to June and also from May 30- June 9, 2015 -- I am currently in training for AIDS/Lifecycle, a 545-mile bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles which raises money for AIDS/HIV Services.
Cottage residents will use the emergency contact number during this time, but I will be unable to book reservations from my bicycle. I apologize for the inconvenience, but assure you it is for a GREAT cause.

I grew up and spent most of my life in the Palm Beaches, but now divide my time between Florida and California. My canine kids and I were very happy when we lived in Lake Worth full-time and have a lot of good memories there... I love to share the very tropical, laid back style of Lake Worth with visitors from all over the globe!
John purchased this house in 1996
Come and enjoy my little oasis. It is the perfect place to unwind (pool, suntanning, etc) while still staying in touch with the world (close to everything, high-speed internet, etc).
We had a good time and it was comfortable. I felt like I was at my Aunt Carol's house, who has a nice place but it's just off by a few centimeters.. Just as the description notes, this house is old. However, as a Florida native (born&bred) I have stayed in some beautiful houses that are older than this one.
The couch had a thin layer of white dust or crumbs. We dusted it and it seemed fine but there were cleaners supposedly so I was surprised. Some things were rusty or broken and I know that it is easily replaced for cheap.
THE BATHROOM DOOR DID NOT LOCK OR EVEN CLOSE. If I was not with my family, me getting ready to take a shower (naked obvs.) could of been really embarrassing. I did not complain to the owners because I'm a nice person and it's not something you can fix without interrupting my vacation.
There only one extra TV. The main bedroom is the only room with a TV besides the living room, very crappy if traveling with multiple kids and teens.
IDK what I could of done wrong, but I fell out of the hammock TWICE. maybe secure it down? I just don't know.
The hot tub was empty so I'm assuming it's out of order but there was no sign or notice or warning. Hose was tied shut so I also assume no hose, which I guess makes sense economically.
Hey, there's a pool and a hot tub, assuming they both work and the weather is appropriate, you could have a great time.
The patio overlooking the yard was really zen. I ate there all day every day.
The bunk bed thing was fun until my brother fell off the ladder but he's clumsy.
The area was great for the baby to run around and play inside and on the patio, but there were a lot of things that made it baby unfriendly, like the big glass full of corks and glass and decor. We kept her inside because the pool was open, though there was nice grass for her to run around.
I travel to Boynton often and may stay here again when available, just probably not with the baby.
Also, our ride was very late and they were more than accommodating to our late time.
Thank you for opening your home for us, nonetheless.
John was excellent at communication and the house was a sweet little cottage located close to the park event we were attending. It is also within walking distance to restaurants. It's not a brand spanking new place, but we had no issues and the setup worked very well for us! We will return next year for the event :)
Although the hot tub was not operational, we enjoyed the other amenities. The pool was lovely. It rained lightly while I was floating in the pool and the sun never stopped shining ... yes, that's Florida. We were greeted with pastry and a note that there was milk in n the refrigerator to go with it -- that's a nice touch. The house was clean and the A/C was great. Nice big screen TV for watching football. It was a GREAT weekend. Would DEFINITELY stay there again and recommend to others.
My family of four enjoyed this cottage and our stay in Lake Worth. The cottage had comfortable bedding, clean linens and a fully stocked kitchen. There was a great coffee cake and milk in the fridge along with a welcome note when we arrived. There was a phenomenal TV with cable in the living room to relax during the heat of the day. The AC worked wonderful with the highs in the 90s most days and the humidity high. The swimming pool was excellent for a morning swim or really any time of the day. The washer and dryer was nice to have in the home due to our family packing light. There was a great selection of books and games. The house was very clean and well kept, the yard was manicured and the street was quiet. We enjoyed dinners in the screened in sun porch.
We were a mile or so from the beach and went everyday. Downtown Lake Worth was just a few blocks away. We enjoyed some meals at Dave's and Too Jay's in downtown Lake Worth, lunch and brunch at Benny's on the Beach and received our fill of great Cuban cuisine at the newly remodeled Havanas. All this restaurants were centrally located to the cottage along with grocery stores and pharmacies.
We are looking forward to staying here again on our next trip!
Highly recommend - better than the description. The owner, John Hannum, was very accommodating and clearly wants his guests to enjoy themselves. The cottage was homey and well-located, with a lot of thoughtful touches - we couldn't have been more comfortable: lots of towels and linens, useful items in the cupboards, interesting decor (loved the blue lights above the kitchen counter stools), huge tv screen, screened in porch, spacious fenced back yard, separate office space, lots of games and books, and everything very clean. And in a real neighborhood; this was such a nice alternative to the sterile, new construction that is built for rental. The location was perfect - less than a mile walk to Publix and CVS, and downtown Lake Worth. A little longer to the beach, but we love to walk so it was great. We were here for several weeks and felt like we belonged. Had lunch or an afternoon snack at Dave's in town on a few occasions while walking the dog - dogs are welcome there and they always brought him water. Breakfast at Benny's on the Beach is a must do at least once (no dogs). It was our great luck to be in Lake Worth for the annual street painting festival - a truly fabulous community party, watching artists transform the main streets into a chalk-on-pavement gallery. Hope to be back.
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. First, in the posting for this cabin I think John does a nice job being very truthful and detailed in describing the condition of the property and its various amenities because we found that the house was very much as he described; old but well cared for. I especially enjoyed the office area and wifi, which allowed me to work remotely for a few days during our stay. The back yard was bigger than I expected from the pictures and I enjoyed daily runs around the quiet neighborhood and to the beach nearby. There are very nice little touches all around which highlight the owner's care (large bookcase, board games, tons of towels, blankets, and pillows) and the cabin was stocked with all of those little things that you don't realize you use until you rent a place that doesn't have them (ie, can opener, corkscrew, bottle opener, wine glasses, batteries, and many other items!!!). The key-lime pie was a wonderful welcome gift! I read through the posting and reviews carefully before booking, so I went into the rental expecting that there would be a few a little hiccups along the way and so I wasn't surprised when they cropped up, but other than the hottub being under repair for the whole week (which was a bummer), every other bump in the road was quite minor in nature and didn't really diminish how much we enjoyed our stay here. It really did feel like a little home away from home and would certainly recommend it! Thank you!
Blocks from the downtown dining and nightlife. Minutes from the beach.
