About Marianne Lindahl Allen

We are an English/Swedish couple who moved to the US in 2008. We have a 2yr old daughter who is already skiing! We love the life in New England and our home in Maine is paradise all year round allowing us to get outdoors and enjoy all that the Bethel Area has to offer. We keep a Gluten-Free life style so keep the house wheat free and enjoy the GF Pizza restaurant in town and The Jolly Drayman's food.

Marianne Lindahl Allen purchased this house in 2012

Why Marianne Lindahl Allen chose Bethel - Sunday River area

We chose to buy this property principally to enjoy the activities of Maine but what we have really come to love is the peace....sometimes the silence is truly deafening! We sit on 2 acres of land up the mountain and cannot see any neighbours from the house. We rarely hear anyone else and only see the occasional car. The views are truly stunning and there is no better feeling than soaking weary limbs in the hot tub, while drinking a beer and watching the sunsets over Mt Washington.

What makes this house unique

From the house you can snow-shoe up the mountain and find complete wilderness. The house is perfect to entertain in and we have enjoyed many dinners for 10+ followed by roasting marsh-mallows and keeping warm in front in the fire-pit.

Relaxing Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Great open floor plan on the first floor that's perfect for groups. Beds/rooms for plenty of people to stay. Hot tub and fire place/pit were great! Easy driving distance to downtown restaurants and bars as well as to hiking trails. We had a great time!

A Glorious Escape!

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay at this property was so glorious that I wanted to share our experience! The home has every amenity one can imagine and within minutes we felt relaxed. From the gorgeous woodland view, to the outdoor fire pit and the relaxing hot tub, the property gives you the sense of having escaped ordinary life. The owners are incredibly accommodating and the entire experience from booking to departure was extremely organized and met all expectations. If you feel you need a time out from life, this is the place to go. We found it very difficult to leave yesterday and are already planning our next visit!

Majestic home on Mountain top

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful home with majestic views of the mountains. When you wake up in the morning you are greeted by breathtaking views of the mountains surrounding you. After skiing all day you can relax in the outdoor spa while you watch magnificent sunsets. This place is heavenly. The owners are very responsive to any questions you have and always willing to assist in any way possible. With three separate floors and 3 full bathrooms every guest can enjoy their own privacy. You can go snow shoeing right out the front door and into the woods if you feel like taking a break away from skiing. The location is perfect. Close enough to everything yet private enough to enjoy your own space away from it all.

Great Parrothead Weekend at Sunday River!

  • 5 of 5

A group of friends and I decided to make a Spring Ski trip up to Sunday River for the Parrothead Festival. I booked the Stunning Sunday River Mountain Retreat and had all questions leading up to my arrival answered promptly. The first thing you will notice upon arrival is the privacy- it is located on a very private drive. First impression of the house from the outside is that it is very impressive. The driveway also had ample parking. I walked into the house and it was just as nice inside as it was outside.

Walking in, there is a coat closet to the left and a laundry room on the right. Following that, the first full bathroom is on the right and a bedroom with two beds is next to that. The hallway then opens up to the well-equipped kitchen. It is both beautiful and open. The kitchen then flowed to a large and open living room equipped with fireplace.

The upstairs featured two large bedrooms, both with views, but, the Master Bedroom featured the best view of the house (and one of the best I've experience skiing in the East). Unobstructed mountain views for miles. There was also a full bathroom on this floor.

The finished basement featured an open area with a number of beds and pullouts along with another full bathroom. A nice feature here is that the boiler room can be utilized to dry out the wood from the well-stocked pile outside.

One of the biggest perks of the house was the outdoor hot tub. Directly off of the living room, the hot tub is well sized and features nearly the same amazing views the Master Bedroom features. My friends and I spent the tail end of one afternoon sitting in the hot tub just to watch the sun set over the mountains.

I can't say enough about how wonderful the home is, or how helpful the owners were with any questions I had both before, during, and after my stay. For you ski bums, Sunday River is a 10 minute drive TOPS. Also, the Bethel nightlife (no, really, there is nightlife in Maine) is extremely close.

I can't wait to book another trip here; it is truly top notch.

Sunday River
Car: necessary

Bethel is Maine's premier four season activity centre. Best known for New England's most expansive ski resort (Sunday River) there is so much more to this quaint Maine town. Grafton Notch State park offers some of the best hiking in Maine and the Androscoggin river offers wonderful Canoeing/Kayaking and great fishing. The nearby lakes (Bryant Pond and Songo Pond) also provide Summer fun. The Sunday River resort offers; skiing, snow-shoeing, cross country skiing, zip lining, tubing, ice-skating and so much more. When the snow melts there is awesome mountain biking, hiking, and golf both here and at the Bethel inn. For dinner we recommend taking in the great food and atmosphere of the Jolly Drayman but there are many other great restaurants nearby.
