The house is right in the heart of the old town in Reykjavik in the city center. Located in a quiet residential area the house is within a few minutes walk from the main shopping street and all the bars and restaurants that Reykjavik has become famous for.
The house was built in 1920 and is located in the old part of Reykjavik called Thingholt in 101 Reykjavik.
The house is 110 m2 (1.180 square feet) on 3 stories.
The top floor is a suite with a queen size bed, a sofa bed and a tv.
On the first floor there is fully furnished kitchen, dining room that seats 6 people at an antique handmade Icelandic dining table and a living room with a flat screen TV.
On the ground floor / basement there is large bedroom with two single beds which can be joined together. There is as well a large bathroom with shower and a laundry room with a washing machine
The house is family owned. My father and I bought the house autumn 2012 and have been working on renovating it over the winter. We are very proud of the out come and know that this is a wonderful house for a family or group of people to spend time in while visiting our beautiful country.
Arnar Hauksson purchased this house in 2012
Its location is perfect, few minuits walk( 5min) to the center, but still far enough to not have to worry about the noise from our famous nightlife. Just renovated and all household equipment brand new (march 2013)
This was a conveniently located rental. It was close to the sights and restaurants. Rental was clean and had all the basics. Kitchen had everything you would need. Negatives, The garden is badly overgrown, there is minimal towels, 1 per person for the duration of the stay. The toilet broke on our first day. Arnar came the next day and said that he would send a Plummer. No one ever showed up. There's just 1 bathroom, so that was awful.
Pros: the house was in a wonderful location, walking distance to downtown and quiet neighborhood.
Cons: there were at the time some plumbing issues as the shower did not drain and can flood the floor and has you standing in dirty water, the toilet last day stopped flushing. Arnar did not follow up till after we left which was consistent as it usually took days to weeks to hear from him in the booking process.
the stairs are very narrow and not ideal for small children or elderly.
Over all it was a cute house, good location, does need updating but we had nothing to compare to and the price seemed reasonable. Iceland is beautiful and Reykjavik a wonderful, creative town.
My husband, myself and our 18yr old daughter stayed for 3 nights at the end of March 2016. It was a special 18th birthday treat and we absolutely loved Iceland. The country was so different to any other place we had experienced before and the house was so comfortable and in a perfect position in the city. We love the Scandinavian/Icelandic look and this house was so gorgeous, it was a real treat being able to stay in our own house in a city and not just a room in a hotel. We hired a car at the airport and thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Blue Lagoon on the first day. We used the car to do The Golden Circle on the second day which was beautiful and stunning. The third day we walked round Reykjavik which was so easy from our house. We also went for a walk round some of the city on the first night as everything was so close to our house. We always had a parking space (no cost) either outside our house or round the corner. We had breakfasts at home and cooked some food in one night and ate out one night. The hot water was a great treat and for us the slightly sulphur smell made our showers feel like a "spa moment" - we loved them, they were invigorating! We all slept so well too as we found the beds to be extremely comfortable and the house was warm. We talk with great love about our trip to Iceland and your house, so thank you Arnar, we loved being in your home and in Iceland - it was all totally magical! x
Sweet house, feels like being on board a small boat! Absolutely perfect for two couples. Upstairs bedroom has more light, downstairs bedroom has benefit of being next to the bathroom. Nice and warm, even on very cold days, thanks to the geothermal heating! Very quiet area, close to everything you could want. Check out Cafe Loki, just a couple of blocks away, for amazing Icelandic food (great breakfast!).
We had a great time at this property last week. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers and the space gave us exactly what we needed. The house is exactly as described on the website and the photos very accurate. The location was perfect and we pretty much walked everywhere within Reykjavik. 10 -15 minute walk to the harbour, 5 minutes to the main shopping street and plenty of places to eat within a few minutes walk. Will definitely book this house again when we return to Reykjavik.
All communications with the owner were promptly responded to and advice given was very helpful. Have already recommended it to a number of work colleagues.
We were very happy with our choice of accommodation during our visit in Reykjavik. This is a cute house that looks like a little one but has a lot of space inside. The house is nearly 100 yrs. old and it has been renovated, decorated and updated with care and with respect for its age and character. You won't find anything ultra-modern here but every amenity is working fine (the reliable Wi-Fi was something that our digitally oriented youngsters valued very highly!). If you have difficult to move you might not appreciate the four-level layout of the house but for us it was a part of the house's charm. The rooms are little but functional - each of us found a favourite one there!
Don't be surprised with the sulphur scent in the bathroom. It is the price if you want to enjoy the geothermic wonders of Iceland and it greets you everywhere - even in the luxury of Blue Lagoon or relaxing pools at Laugardalslaug . But this applies only to hot water (and you going to enjoy the hot water anyway, believe me!). Cold tap water is another wonder: drink it and enjoy - don't waste your money to bottled water while in Iceland!
The location of the house is perfect. It is in the downtown of Reykjavik. Sights and shopping are few blocks away but when you come back to the house you are in the perfectly tranquil neighbourhood. Local busses pass the nearby streets and you can get easily anywhere in the Reykjavik (if you have smartphone, look for the Straeto app - that helps you plan your trip!). Bus station is near - and you can even walk to the domestic airport if you want to go far beyond Reykjavik! We rented a car for few days and found every night a parking slot within 20 meters from the door!
Our visit to Iceland was very easy and effortless. Much of the credit goes to Icelanders themselves: every service, excursion and ticket we reserved before our trip was provided promptly and exactly as agreed. Every question was answered. Arnar make no exception: he was easily reachable by email and phone, provided the information we asked and supplied the extra gadget we needed during our visit. He was available when we needed his assistance but carefully respected our privacy. And thank you, Arnar, for the breakfast you welcomed us on the day we arrived!
The house is ideally located in the heart of downtown Reykjavik in a quiet residential area but with less than 5 min walk to the town center. Historical buildings and museums, the main shopping street, numerous bars and restaurants and the famous Reykjavik nightlife are all within just a few minutes walking distance.
