My name is Joan and we purchased this property in St Lucia because we simply fell in love with it.
The views are magnificent and everyone who has stayed there
want to come back.
I grew up in the UK and went to the local schools. I left at the age of 15 and went to work in London.
I met my husband Alan when I was 21 and we were married within 18 months and had our first son Ian with Paul, Alan and Graham to follow.
They are now all men and visited St Lucia with us many times and go on holiday as much as time will allow as they work hard running their own Company.
We all try to get together at Christmas in St Lucia and always enjoy being with them and the Grandhcildren. We live both in the UK and St Lucia .
Joan Smith purchased this villa in 2006
We had been coming to St Lucia for 40 years on holidays and when this property was available to purchase through a friend of ours we jumped at it knowing the views and full potential of the property. We have completely in the last 2 years revamped and refurbished the property to a high standard which is what we wanted to achieve and it took us a long time to decide to do holiday rentals which I must admit we have met some lovely
families who all talk about coming back to Mango Tree Villa.
The views are absolutely breath-taking where you can sit with a glass of wine on the balcony by the pool or on the higher terrace and watch the sunset and cruise ships leaving Castries. It is truly unique.
It is also adjacent to the Windjammer Landing Resort which you can walk actually through these grounds to the reception and the beach. Our guests have permission to use beach facilities and restaurants and can visit for the evening entertainment. So safe for children which was another plus as we personally had three young grandchildren who simply love this area.
This was our second time to St. Lucia, we stayed at the Windjammer resort the first time. This home is attached to the Windjammer resort and provided access to all the amenities of the resort. Of course one had to pay for the restaurants and the water sport activities but at no additional cost you are able to use the beach, brand new gym, water aerobics, yoga and shuttle to and from the villa. You can walk down to the resort from the villa and if in really good shape walk back up but rarely did we do that in the heat. The Villa itself was superb for 2 couples and could easily handle 8 people. The ability to dump in the pool was perfect when trying to relax or read and the view from either the upper or lower balcony was excellent. Joan was more than accommodating and even supplied food for the first night and breakfast the next day. We did have a small problem with the taxi on the way in that Joan had arranged but Joan made sure we were comfortable and well taken care of during the delay. FYI, the taxi problem was unexpected as was no reflection on the company that she hired. Would I stay there again, most definitely and we are already trying to arrange to come back with our kids.
The villa overlooks and is on the edge of a small local street so you do get a bit of the feel of area more than just being in the villa and the sounds of roosters in the morning are great if you are up; you won't hear them in the villa when sleeping.
Only item that stopped me from rating this as excellent was a number of small maintenance issue that need to be addressed...burnt out light bulbs, small problems with the tv's, microwave, toaster and door to gas for stove need some work. None of which are major in nature and as I said we are planning to come back.
One last thing that was a major benefit to not being in the resort was that you could walk to the main road in about 5 to 8 minutes and catch a bus into town for less than a $1US or walk another minute or two to a local grocery store for supplies. Doing this from resort is more like a 30 minute walk to the main road on a much busier and tighter road. We felt totally safe doing this. Might be a bit more careful at night but that is just common sense. You can always take a cab back to the resort and then the shuttle up to the villa.
We had a lovely stay a truly enjoyed our visit to Saint Lucia. The photos for this property do not do this justice. There were six of us who stayed at this property and we had more than enough room. We didn't even use one bedroom while we were there. Joan was helpful from the very beginning from booking the villa, to arranging airport transfers for us to having dinner, breakfast, wine and some local piton beers in the fridge upon our arrival. The property is right next to the Windjammer Landing Resort which you have beach access to along with water sports, restaurants and bars at your expense. Was nice to be able to use the resort ammenities if you wanted to but if you wanted more privacy and quietness you could relax by the pool. The views of the ocean were beautiful and the villa is just a five minute walk to the beach. You can also call for the resort shuttle to take you down to the beach and bring you back to the villa from the beach if you wish. We opted for a few days to do day excursions from the resort but mostly we spent the morning hours by the brach and returned to the villa pool for the afternoon. I would highly recommend this property and we hope to return to Mango Tree Villa again in the upcoming years!
Baby sitters can be arranged through Reception desk at the Windjammer Landing Resort. Our guests also have permission to use the shuttle service from the Windjammerf to Mango Tree Villa if it is used sensibly.
All activities available are listed in the local magazine and the ziplines and the challenge is a great day out.
Go for a trip on the catamaran to Sourfrier where you will be taken to all the local places of interest, snorkel, and be taken to lunch. You would also be taken to the botanical gardens which is a must.
