Historic, Riverfront Cottage sits high above the Kalamazoo River connecting Saugatuck to Lake Michigan. The cottage is a short walk (3-4 regular blocks) to Saugatuck's downtown attractions, shops and restaurants. A large screened porch overlooks the river and opens into the living room and kitchen creating a flowing indoor/outdoor life style. The view of the river boating traffic and wildlife from this porch is unbelievable. Recent remodeling upgrades include a cathedral ceiling in the living room, new carpeting and a large screened HD TV and a hot tub overlooking the river. Treehouse sleeps up to 8 people.
The ground level Master bedroom has a queen bed. There is a hide-a-bed sofa in the adjoining dining/living room. The lower level has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with a set of twin beds. The cottage has central air-conditioning throughout. The cottage is naturally cooled by the river/lake breezes and the over head fans throughout. There are bathrooms with showers on both levels of the cottage. There are also complete kitchens on both floors with a washer/dryer in the lower level. The lower level also has a covered deck spanning the entire width of the cottage which mimics the great views of the screened porch. There is a nice lawn on the river level that is ideal for lounging, games or enjoying the fire pit.
Fishing from this level is usually good and small boats or jet skis can be tied up to the seawall. Weekly rentals take priority. However, three to four day rentals are possible in the off season or on short notice as are rentals of just the upper or lower level units. Pets are allowed with the owner's approval and a small damage deposit/fee.

Our names are Jan & Gary and we have been married over 50 years - a rare feat today it seems. We have lived in the Saugatuck area most of those years and know alot about what there is to do and see in the area. Gary's a former sales/marketing executive with a Fortune 500 office furniture manufacturer. Jan worked in sales for Xerox and the Avon Company and retired with 20 years of local real estate brokerage experience. We also own and operate Marywood Manor Bed & Breakfast during the summer season and spend winters on our 44 ft catamaran sailing in the Florida Keys and the Bahamas. We promise an enjoyable stay in the Treehouse Cottage and will do everything we can to make it happen. Please call us if you have any questions about the Treehouse Cottage, Marywood Manor B & B, the Saugatuck area or sailing. We'd love to talk with you.
Janet and Gary Kemp purchased this cottage in 1990
We brought the 'Tree House Cottage' for our personal use because we thought we would live in it after we retired. We then brought the house next door when it came up for sale several years later as it had a much larger lot for Jan to enjoy her love of gardening. After remodeling the home we decided to live in it and to keep the cottage as a guest house and summer rental.
The view from the screened porch is spectatular. You can sit and watch boats come and go all day. It's just a nice walk to downtown for dinner or a specialty coffee at the local coffee house. The heavily forested property across the river gives you the feeling of real privacy as you watch deer drinking at the river in the early morning and evening. Throughout the fall the colors of the trees change and provide many beautiful scenes and reflections in the water. Early in the morning haze, while you sip your coffee, the charter fishing boats go out the river for a day of salmon and trout fishing. Sitting on the porch is truely a peaceful experience as is sitting in the hot tub on a cool evening as the boats return to their docks
Our family had a great stay in this lovely cottage. view of the river is unbeleivable. Beds are great!! House was remodeled last year. Its our favorite and we have stayed alot of places in Saugatuck. we will be back.

4 of us needed a relaxing weekend and this cottage helped us achieve that. It was rustic enough to be charming with modern convenience. The views are amazing and the dog loved walking along the river, barking at the ducks. The owners provide a good number of dining and entertainment suggestions and could not have been easier to work with. We will definitely make a return visit.
The views from the cottage were extremely pleasing from both levels of porches. The photos of the home were a little misleading; ie, the upper kitchen and the lower bedroom with twin beds. The queen bed mattress downstairs needs to be replaced. But for the most part, cottage was as described. The walk to town was more than the three blocks as described, but still do-able with smaller children. The cottage needs to be fully air conditioned and the owner said that may happen in the near future. Since it is an older cottage, some windows were painted shut so we couldn't take full advantage of the lake breeze. The owner recommended restaurants and sites to us which was helpful. It was a short drive to Oval Beach which was lots of fun. The WiFi worked on occasion, mostly outside . To be fair, the owner said we should have informed him, that he might have been able to correct the problem. The lower level was musty, but maybe that's due to the river location??? There is parking for 2 or 3 cars which is a plus... Bottom line, this property is overpriced for what you get inside, so you are paying for the beautiful location and views of all the boats passing into the lake. Very peaceful.
Authentic paddlewheel riverboat cruises are provided downtown, Family friendly dune schooner rides are close by, 3 local championship level golf courses including an Arnold Palmer Signature course, Lake Michigan charter fishing boats, Day or sunset sailing on Lake Michigan aboard several charter boats, Hike Saugatuck Dunes State Park with marked hiking trails through pristine woods to miles of sandy beach, Climb the 300 stairs to the top of Mount Baldhead for an incredible view of Saugatuck & Lake Michigan,
