About the property

Private River Cottage near Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown and Busch Gardens

Our waterfront beach cottage sits on a bluff overlooking the James River and Jamestown Island, with steps down to your private beach. You will have the privacy of a cottage and will be directly across the river from Jamestown and Williamsburg. The view of the river is wide open (about a mile to the left is the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry Dock and to the right is Cobham Bay).

Watch spectacular sunrises over the river from the deck or the air conditioned/heated front porch. After enjoying a day of history in Jamestown, Williamsburg or Yorktown, Busch Gardens, or some of the other attractions Virginia has to offer, come back to relax on the 'rivah' in the privacy of your cottage. Sometimes just watching eagles and ospreys fish, playing on the beach or in the river, or kayaking is just what is needed after a busy day. Or you can just spend a day having fun on the rivah!

The James River here at the cottage is tidal water and is clean. The tide comes in and goes out very slowly, so it is great for children to play in. It is partly salty and partly freshwater.

The free car ferry is part of the Virginia Dept of Transportation and runs every 30 minutes during the day until 9 p.m. when it runs every hour all night until 5 a.m. It takes 15 minutes to cross the river. The ferry dock is one mile from the cottage. The ferry lands at Jamestown on the other side and Historic Williamsburg is 4 miles straight ahead (takes about 5 minutes to get to Historic Williamsburg when you get off the ferry).

Our cottage is in a neighborhood where there are no other rental cottages, only cottages used by the families that own them. There are no houses behind the cottages. Once you leave the paved road, you are 0.3 mile down a lane from the start of a perfect vacation.

Two kayaks, a row boat, a canoe, and adult and children's life preservers are provided. Also provided are beach chairs, beach umbrella, cooler, beach towels, floats and children's beach toys.

Linens, coffee maker (with filters, coffee, sugar creamer), dinnerware, silverware, glassware, cookware, cooking utensils, paper plates and cups, paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, baggies, cooking oils, basic spices, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, soap, hand soap, dish detergent, towels, dish towels and cloths, Tide, dryer sheets and trash bags are provided.

The Bathroom has a tub with a shower. Hair dryer, towels, wash cloths, soap, body wash, shampoo, hand soap, toilet paper, and first aid kit are provided.

In the backyard there is a gas grill ready for your barbeque.

The living area has satellite TV (DIRECTV) and a DVD player. DVD's and books are provided. MLB Extra Innings is provided for you baseball fans!

All of the bedrooms are equipped with bed linens, extra blanket, a clock, and a flashlight. One bedroom has a TV and DVD player.

Brochures for tourists attractions are provided.

Why A.C. Traylor chose Tidewater & Hampton Roads

Our cottage is in a perfect location for privacy, has a beautiful view, a private beach and the James River to play in, but close to Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown, Busch Gardens and other sites that you came to see. It is like having the best of both worlds. You will understand why the people who own a cottage here love it.

A true "Home Away from Home."

  • 5 of 5

We will always remember how beautiful and peaceful it was at this river cottage. The attention to detail and cleanliness of the cottage was beyond our expectations. The only things we had to provide were our clothes and food. Our family loved eating on the heated porch looking at the wide river, Jamestown (directly across the river), and Bald Eagles. The ferry ride was quick and enjoyable. Our only regret was that we were there in January and could not enjoy the beach. We are already making plans to go back in the summer!

We were very comfortable at the cottage and the owners had stocked the unit so that all we really needed were our clothes. Beautiful location and cozy accomodations. Thank you

So much to do and we only had a week!!

  • 5 of 5

We will be back in the future. We had a week and we went to the Naval museum in Norfolk as well as the Confederate White House in Richmond. We did all that after visiting all of the history right across the river in Jamestown, Williamsburg and York where there is so much to see. We used the Kayaks that are furnished with the home and just relaxed on the porch and watched the most amazing sunrises and sunsets ever. The Cottage is a great home base and it comes very comfortably equipped. All you really do need is your own food!! It is so peaceful and the deer greeted us every morning on the road out to the ferry ride,(which was another one of my favorite things to do) but honestly this little "peace" of heaven is worth going again and again!! Thank you AC and Linda.

Restful, beautiful, relaxing

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about how wonderful our vacation was at this charming little cottage on the James River! When we arrived we found a bottle of wine, soaps, laundry detergent, basic spices, condiments, shampoo, skin lotion, toothbrushes, and so many other little amenities that I know I am forgetting! Linda was wonderful to work with, responsive to emails, and even went the extra mile of mailing back a pretty good sized amount of DVD's back to us that we had mistakenly forgotten! The beds were comfy/cozy, the eagles were beautiful, and the area was restful and relaxing! I would highly recommend this cozy cottage as a great place to escape! Linda....you are an outstanding hostess!!!

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We were impressed by this exceptionally clean and well-maintained cottage. And equally impressive was the spectacular waterfront view! Many unexpected touches were appreciated including wine, soaps and extra linens. We spent a lot of time on the beach and found tons of prehistoric seashells and 5 sharks teeth. We appreciate all the owners did to make our stay fun and relaxing.
