Overview

About the property

Private River Cottage near Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown and Busch Gardens

Our waterfront beach cottage sits on a bluff overlooking the James River and Jamestown Island, with steps down to your private beach. You will have the privacy of a cottage and will be directly across the river from Jamestown and Williamsburg. The view of the river is wide open (about a mile to the left is the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry Dock and to the right is Cobham Bay).

Watch spectacular sunrises over the river from the deck or the air conditioned/heated front porch. After enjoying a day of history in Jamestown, Williamsburg, or Yorktown, Busch Gardens, or some of the other attractions Virginia has to offer, come back to relax on the 'rivah' in the privacy of your cottage. Sometimes just watching eagles and ospreys fish, playing on the beach or in the river, or kayaking is just what is needed after a busy day. Or you can just spend a day having fun on the rivah!

The free car ferry belongs to the VA Department of Transportation and runs 24 hours a day. When landing at Jamestown, Williamsburg is 4 miles straight down the road (about 5 min.), and it takes less than 15 minutes to get to Busch Gardens. Yorktown is a little beyond Williamsburg. The ferry dock on this side is 1 mile from the cottage.

The James River here at the cottage is tidal water and is clean. The tide comes in and goes out very slowly, so it is great for children to play in. It is partly salty and partly freshwater. There is not a drop-off.

You will have your privacy here. There are no houses behind the cottages. Once you leave the paved road, you are 0.3 mile down a lane from the start of a perfect vacation.

Two kayaks, a canoe, and adult and children's life preservers are provided. Also provided are beach chairs, beach umbrella, cooler, and beach towels.

Linens, coffee maker (with filters, coffee, sugar, creamer), dinnerware, silverware, glassware, cookware, cooking utensils, paper plates and cups, paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, baggies, cooking oil, basic spices, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, soap, hand soap, dish detergent, towels, dish towels and cloths, Tide, dryer sheets and trash bags are provided.

The Bathroom has a tub with a shower. Hair dryer, towels, wash cloths, soap, shampoo, hand soap, toilet paper, and first aid kit are provided.

In the backyard there is a gas grill ready for your barbecue.

The living area has satellite TV (DIRECTV) and a DVD player. DVD's and books are provided. MLB Extra Innings is provided for you baseball fans!

All of the bedrooms are equipped with bed linens, extra blanket, a clock, and a flashlight. One bedroom has a TV (Antenna) and DVD player.

Brochures for tourists attractions are provided.

Why A.C. Traylor chose Tidewater & Hampton Roads

Our cottage is in a perfect location for privacy, has a beautiful view, a private beach and the James River to play in, but close to Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown, Busch Gardens and other sites that you came to see. It is like having the best of both worlds.

Everything was perfect.

A.C. and Linda make you feel right at home and are great host. The house and property are well taking care of and everything we needed was provide. They take care of all the details that make for a great vacation or getaway. Would definitely recommend and I hope that I'm able to visit again.

Charm and Peace and History

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have been happier with this vacation spot. Maybe it's because I've always wanted to live on a bluff overlooking the water, maybe it's because of the incredible peace that surrounds this spot while you look toward Jamestown and Williamsburg across the river, (you hear nothing but the water lapping on the shore, and birds --- bald eagles and ospreys and cormorants fishing the James, an owl hooting in the trees, a hummingbird checking you out on the deck) but this place was enchanting. Close to the free ferry that goes frequently to/from the Jamestown/Williamsburg triangle. The house is spotlessly clean and stocked with just about EVERYTHING you need. I mean everything! I wouldn't recommend coming into the property the first time in the dark unless you call ahead because the driveway is quite an adventure through the forest and fields. You'll think you have to be driving down a path a farmer made along his peanut fields! But after the first time down the driveway you will love it!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd visit and both times this wonderful little cottage was just perfect. It's cleanliness is only surpassed by the extra touches provided by the hosts. It's almost like a bed and breakfast with so much thoughtfulness having been put into ensuring your stay is peaceful and enjoyable. The beach was quiet, the water warm, the a/c cold. Thank you so much Linda and A.C.!

Private, requires planning, great spot

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved the cottage. A.C. And Linda have thought of everything. View is spectacular, but it comes at a cost, 63 steps down to the water. Watching the osprey, bald eagles, hummingbirds, and golden eagles alone makes it worthwhile. Warm shallow water for swimming. If you are there to do the full on historical triangle understand you won't be zipping back to the cottage during the day. The triangle is a ferry ride away. The free ferry runs 24/7 and it was a cool part of our trip, but you need to plan for it.

Cute, clean cottage with very nice owners

  • 4 of 5

I visited this cottage with my three kids. It was a great getaway -- convenient enough to take the ferry and see all the Colonial Williamsburg sites, from the historic Yorktown, Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg village to Busch Gardens and Water Country. But it was nice to come home to this quiet setting, and watch the sunsets and sunrises. Owners were very responsive and helpful. We would recommend.
