Overview

About the property

Private River Cottage near Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown and Busch Gardens

Our waterfront beach cottage sits on a bluff overlooking the James River and Jamestown Island, with steps down to your private beach. You will have the privacy of a cottage and will be directly across the river from Jamestown and Williamsburg. The view of the river is wide open (about a mile to the left is the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry Dock and to the right is Cobham Bay).

Watch spectacular sunrises over the river from the deck or the air conditioned/heated front porch. After enjoying a day of history in Jamestown, Williamsburg, or Yorktown, Busch Gardens, or some of the other attractions Virginia has to offer, come back to relax on the 'rivah' in the privacy of your cottage. Sometimes just watching eagles and ospreys fish, playing on the beach or in the river, or kayaking is just what is needed after a busy day. Or you can just spend a day having fun on the rivah!

The James River here at the cottage is tidal water and is clean. The tide comes in and goes out very slowly, so it is great for children to play in. It is partly salty and partly freshwater. There is not a drop-off.

The free car ferry belongs to the VA Dept of Transportation and runs 24 hours a day. When landing at Jamestown, Williamsburg is 4 miles straight down the road (about 5 min.), and it takes less than 15 minutes to get to Busch Gardens. Yorktown is a little beyond Williamsburg. The ferry dock on this side is 1 mile from the cottage.

You will have your privacy here. There are no houses behind the cottages. Once you leave the paved road, you are 0.3 mile down a lane from the start of a perfect vacation.

Two kayaks, a canoe, and adult and children's life preservers are provided. Also provided are beach chairs, beach umbrella, cooler, and beach towels.

Linens, coffee maker (with filters, coffee, sugar creamer), dinnerware, silverware, glassware, cookware, cooking utensils, paper plates and cups, paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, baggies, cooking oils, basic spices, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, soap, hand soap, dish detergent, towels, dish towels and cloths, Tide, dryer sheets and trash bags are provided.

The Bathroom has a tub with a shower. Hair dryer, towels, wash cloths, soap, shampoo, hand soap, toilet paper, and first aid kit are provided.

In the backyard there is a gas grill ready for your barbecue.

The living area has satellite TV (DIRECTV) and a DVD player. DVD's and books are provided. MLB Extra Innings is provided for you baseball fans!

All of the bedrooms are equipped with bed linens, extra blanket, a clock, and a flashlight. One bedroom has a TV (Antenna) and DVD player.

Brochures for tourists attractions are provided.

Why A.C. Traylor chose Tidewater & Hampton Roads

Our cottage is in a perfect location for privacy, has a beautiful view, a private beach and the James River to play in, but close to Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown, Busch Gardens and other sites that you came to see. It is like having the best of both worlds.

Wonderful Water Front Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved our stay here. The cottage is well appointed with everything you could possibly need. The view of the James River is breathtaking, and seeing several wild animals nearby was thrilling. Our dog really enjoyed her time here too. We would love to return for another stay in the near future.

Bay View is a wonderful place to stay for a family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Bay View. It is such a close drive to the Williamsburg area with the bonus of getting to ride a free ferry across the river! In the evenings we enjoyed looking for shells, kayaking, and watching the eagles that have a nest on the property.. We loved every minute of our stay! The owners were so thoughtful and the cottage was very clean!

Quiet Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Like the previous reviewer (Beth D.), the cottage was beyond our expectations. This place was our best VRBO experience. We truly only had to bring food and clothes. If we needed anything, the owners were there to help and responded quickly. They truly wanted our stay to be perfect. They even made sure our dog was comfortable too. If you are planning to visit Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, and Bush Gardens, this is the place to stay. My wife and I enjoyed our morning coffee watching the beautiful sunrises and birds. Not until after we visited Jamestown settlement (directly across the river) did we realize the magnitude of what our morning viewing was including. The enclosed porch provided a great view on the chilly mornings. Access to the Ferry was excellent. The kids were excited to explore the beach and now have an extensive shell collection! The beauty of the cottage was that after a long day of sightseeing it provided a quiet escape and allowed the kids to unwind. If we are ever back in this area, we will stay here again. Some notes about our trip:

1) Plan for the Ferry. It leaves every half hour.

2) If you are there to visit the "Triangle" our suggestion would be to start with Jamestown, then Yorktown, and then Williamsburg.

3) Take time to visit William and Mary College as it is a beautiful campus. Mad About Chocolate is close by!

4) Colonial Williamsburg can be done without spending money. However, purchasing tickets, allows you to go into the shops and keep the kids interested (11, 9 and 7 years old)

5) Bush Gardens. Check Groupon. We ended up getting 1/2 off each ticket. If you do Groupon, print the voucher, it saves you time getting into the park.

6) Yorktown, we did the driving tour and well worth it. You buy a $5 cd from the gift shop, and it guides you along the way. Also once you have a ticket for Jamestown, your ticket is good for Yorktown too.

7) the Colonial Highway is a great drive from Jamestown to Yorktown a lot of small areas to stop and enjoy. Note once you get closer to Yorktown, there is a Naval station. Our little guy enjoyed seeing the big ship.

8) Virginia Beer Company is nice place to stop to enjoy a flight of beer. Board games for the kids to play and a food truck that served decent BBQ.

A true "Home Away from Home."

  • 5 of 5

We will always remember how beautiful and peaceful it was at this river cottage. The attention to detail and cleanliness of the cottage was beyond our expectations. The only things we had to provide were our clothes and food. Our family loved eating on the heated porch looking at the wide river, Jamestown (directly across the river), and Bald Eagles. The ferry ride was quick and enjoyable. Our only regret was that we were there in January and could not enjoy the beach. We are already making plans to go back in the summer!

Lovely and quiet location

We were very comfortable at the cottage and the owners had stocked the unit so that all we really needed were our clothes. Beautiful location and cozy accomodations. Thank you
