|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
Welcome to our Cape Cod Retreat! Tucked away in the natural environs of the National Seashore in historic North Eastham, Massachusetts, our bright and clean home offers four bedrooms, two bathrooms and an outdoor shower. Our newly renovated common living-dining room is spacious with a long farmers table that can seat up to 12 people comfortably and a comfy sectional sofa that provides a place for the family to sit together to play a board game or to watch a movie. Our large, sunlight-flooded kitchen has been recently updated with under-mounted sink and granite countertops. If you are a foodie you’ll love cooking a meal in this space. With it's comfy arm chairs and early morning sun pouring in, this where we love to sit with a cup of coffee and read of the morning paper. The deck off the kitchen is shaded by oaks and sea pines. It's a wonderful place to cook (on a Webber Gas Grill) and eat, or share a libation on a warm summer day. On cool evenings, we find ourselves drawn to our farmer’s porch that stretches across the front of our house. We’ve discovered recently that night-time mosquitoes are infrequent visitors of homes on the Oceanside of the Cape, unlike the more marshy inlets of the Bayside. We have a large yard with swing set and plenty of room for off-street parking (room for a boat).
We both grew up and have lived in Massachusetts up until recently, when we moved to Long Island, NY with our 3 young children when John began a new job.
Dianna and John purchased this house in 2011
We both vacationed in Cape Cod as children and, for the past 15 years, we have spent our summer vacations at a relative's home on the lower Cape. We've loved spending our vacations there as a young couple, hanging at the spectacular beaches of the National Seashore during the day and checking out the great restaurants and night life in Wellfleet and Provincetown. More recently, we started to come with our babies and spent our time at the gentle waters and sea shells of the bay beaches and especially the warm, clear spring waters of the kettle ponds where our little ones could play safely for hours at the water's edge. With little ones we've also become very familiar with the great mini-golf and soft serve ice cream joints, the wonderful children's theatre in Brewster and exploring the beautiful, peaceful trails on the Wellfleet Audubon, although with 3 noisy kids in tow, we don't see as many birds as we used to! The lower Cape feels like home to us; an utterly peaceful home where we can take a deep breath, feel the Cape Cod breeze, and spend wonderful moments with family and friends. So, when we moved to New York, we knew that, even though it was a bit farther for us to drive, we couldn't buy a vacation home anywhere else.
We love the North Eastham area because it has a very rural, quiet feel to it. When we're biking or driving down our street and all the beach roads around us, we feel like we're far away from civilization. Yet, when we do want to venture out and find some civilization for fun or practical reasons, we're on Route 6 in a minute and can head a few minutes in either direction for all of our favorite spots.
We also love having the option of going to the ocean beaches for the big thrilling waves and the dunes or across the road to the bay beaches, where we can watch the sunset on the water. Great Pond is also just a few minutes away, so we can pop over there after the beach for a refreshing swim.
When we found the 'Mucho Gusto Hideaway', which was aptly named by our 6 year old daughter, we knew this was the place for us. The charming farmer's porch grabbed us immediately and it has turned out to be great spot to hang out and grab the morning sun with a cup of coffee and enjoying some margaritas and chips and salsa as the sun is setting. The home has enough room for us to be comfortable, give everyone space for a little privacy, and to welcome family and friends. We also love to cook and entertain, so we loved the newly renovated large kitchen and the open feeling of the dining and living room area.
We were very excited to see the outdoor shower and the deck off the kitchen. The big yard allows our kids to run around and explore for hours and we enjoy the view of the gorgeous hydrangea bushes.
The proximity to the bike path has been a great bonus of our location! We can go for a walk or jog there in the morning and the family can hop on our bikes and ride to many destinations without having to deal with the dangers of the traffic on Route 6.
The 'Hideaway' is a very special place for our family and since we bought it last year, we have been (and are still) lovingly renovating, decorating and appointing our home, to create a clean, comfortable and peaceful space in which we and our guests can spend our precious (and all too rare) vacation time.
We had an absolutely wonderful week at the hideaway. We've been renting homes on the Cape for many years - most of them continuous and at the same house until the owners either sold them or decided to move up there permanently. We've always rented in the Orleans/Eastham area as it is our favorite place to be. My father & I were having coffee and playing on our iPads one evening sitting at the kitchen table and decided that of all our previous rentals, the hideaway is our favorite. To top it off, we had wonderful weather!
We are looking forward to hopefully returning next year, so I will be in touch the the owner.
Dianna, one of the owners, was nothing but pleasant, available/accessible, and helpful during our correspondence & stay and we couldn't be more pleased with the rental or the process from beginning to end.
We spent a lovely week with our daughter and her family (including 3 year old twins) and the house had everything we could have wished for - air conditioning, fans, 2 queen beds, a gorgeous, well planned kitchen, toys and games, bikes, beach stuff etc. We really could have brought just our clothes and linens. We also loved that the week ran from Friday to Friday. It made the trip there and back so much easier.
The Nauset Light Beach was only a mile away and it was easy to park and use. But the twins liked the bay side so we went to First Encounter Beach a couple of times and it was perfect for little ones.
I will certainly recommend this house to my friends that might be looking for a Cape Cod vacation. Thanks to the family for sharing this delightful home.
Beautiful Home and very clean. There were 6 of us with 4 teenagers enough room for all of us. We loved how the bike trail and beaches were close by. We loved sitting on the porch at night and spending family time together. We had everything we needed for the week, thank you for a wonderful week!
We finally made it to the Oyster Festival this year and staying at your comfortable and charming home certainly added to the pleasures of the weekend. Your description was spot-on and the amenities were very much appreciated. It was always nice to enter a well maintained and clean property. The welcome goodies and the area information that you provided were also appreciated. Your home will certainly be on our short list for future family vacations.
We recently returned from our stay in the Cape, and a great time was had by all! The house was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. I loved having coffee in the sunny kitchen sitting in one of the comfy arm chairs or on the farmer’s porch, and my girls loved the porch swing! It was also great having picnic lunches on the deck and being able to see my kids play in the yard. The outside shower is a plus when you want to keep sand out of the house! The location is perfect … right on the bike path, close to the ponds, beaches, seafood & ice cream. When it was time to unwind, the living room was wonderful and fit us all comfortably. It was also nice that in the evening, having the extra bedrooms upstairs gave the adults privacy downstairs. Dianna, the owner, was great to work with and we appreciated the binder she keeps with info on everything in the area. We are looking forward to staying again next summer.
Beautiful home. Very clean and comfortable. It was us and three teenage boys. They loved the room with the bunk beds and the proximity to the beaches via the bike trail. Every kitchen item we needed was there, wifi , board games, boogie boards etc. we would definitely stay here again and have recommended it to our friends. Dianna was one of the best owners I ever dealt with and we have rented a lot of places. Thanks for a wonderful week.
Our home is close to many beautiful and unique Cape Cod sites including the National Seashore (Nauset Light Beach and Coast Guard Beach) and the famous Nauset Lighthouse (one mile from the house). Eastham also has 4 bay beaches and several fresh water kettle ponds (great for young children!), all within minutes of the house. The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary (under a mile from us) is the perfect place for a gentle nature walk for the young and “young at heart”, as well as the most earnest bird-watchers. For you bicyclers, you can access the Cape Cod Rail Trail at the end of our street. Head north a few hundred yards for mini golf or keep on pedaling into South Wellfeet (3 miles) for a latte and a brioche at the very popular 'P.B. Boulangerie' or the 'Blue Willow'. Head South on the Rail Trail you will quickly encounter old fashioned donut shops, coffee, ice cream, a general store, Deli and a world class gym for those of you who want to work out before heading to the beach. If you're up for a longer bike ride, you can go a little further to get to Orleans center, with it's many shops and restaurants, including The Chocolate Sparrow, whose delicious confections provide a great incentive to keep pedaling down the path. You can also take it easy and drive to downtown Orleans in about 10 minutes. There, you will find stores to help with all the practicalities: Super Stop n Shop, CVS, The Christmas Tree Shop, as well as many charming and interesting local shops, antique shops, and restaurants. The Town of Wellfleet (5 minutes from the house) is a wonderful artist village with a few upscale restaurants and a picturesque pier. This charming and peaceful downtown area with it's art galleries and unique shops, make for great afternoon of window shopping. If you want to venture about 20 minutes farther, check out Provincetown, a Portuguese fishing village that has the feel of Greenwich Village. There is nothing quite like it. P-Town, as we like to call it, is a must see whether you want to poke around in shops, go on a whale watch or simply sit on a bench and “people watch.” As you head toward Wellfleet, you’ll surely notice the Wellfleet Drive-in and cinema, where you can enjoy first-run films in the great outdoors.
