Set in a large tropical garden on a quiet residential street just a hundred meters from a 2,000 foot sandy beach.
A verandah surrounds the entire cottage and is perfect for just relaxing and 'chilling out'.
Enjoy your snacks or catch up on your reading on either the South or West verandahs .
A mezzanine bedroom overlooks the Living room , homeoffice nook , and fully equipped Kitchen.
There is satellite t.v. and wireless internet access .
Your host, Stuart, has lived on the property for seventeen years and is a retired professor of English.
A Bahamian, born in Wales, enjoys helping the visitor to appreciate Nassau and to optimize their experience as a guest and not a tourist. He can arrange a hassle-free pick up at the airport as well as getting a good car rental deal or taxi rides with drivers he knows and trusts . He lives in the main house on the property and is discreetly available for any useful info. Recently expanded his repertoire of off-island experiences to incude a less expensive and more rewarding SWIMMING WITH PIGS adventure .
Stuart Howells purchased this cottage in 2009
It's Architecture is in the centuries old colonial / tropical style.
It is designed for 'living on your porch'. It's in a large property with lots of lush vegetation , so it's pretty private .With a 95% perfect climate and constant sea breeze, why not?
Its' location and its' relative isolation away from traffic . Sometimes , I just take my coffee and walk the fifty metres to the beach in the morning . The beach is soft sand and perfect for swimming . It's 2000 feet long and divided up into several separate bays . Most visitors are surprised at how few people use the beach . Bahamians rarely like beaching between the end of October and the end of April , the next year
Many days , I just walk along the beach path to Downtown , through the ' Fish Fry ' native restuarant area , and past another stunning beach . This beach has a closeup view of the cruise ships at dock . I've include shots of this in the photo selection .
My wife and I arrived at the airport to be greeted by the owner, Stuart, then taken to a local grocery store to pick up some essentials and then to arrive at his picturesque cottage. We were minutes from the beach, close walking to beaches in both directions, 25 minutes to the Fish Fry and Nassau. When tired a $2.50 bus fare got you home. Every one is so friendly and Stuart went out of his way to meet my non gluten diet requirements. The cottage is quaint, tidy and equipped with all the essential things needed to set up shop. We would certainly go back again.
My boyfriend and I stayed at Stuart's cottage in March 2017 and had a wonderful time. Stuart picked us up from the airport and took us to the grocery store, which was very helpful. The appliances in the kitchen were full size and worked well. The property is big enough that we had our privacy but Stuart was there to answer questions that we had. We caught the jitney every day right down the street from the cottage to down town, only about a 10 min ride. The fish fry was close by, within walking distance. We walked to the liquor store and pharmacy a few times, all were close by. The cottage is perfect for two people and felt homey and spacious. Stuart was a wonderful host and we would definitely go back.
My husband and I stayed here the last week of June-and would return in a heartbeat! It is located less than a 2 minute walk from an excellent beach where we spent much time swimming snorkeling and relaxing. Our host, Stuart, picked us up from the airport and stopped at a grocery store on the way to the cottage so we could get supplies. You do not need to buy any paper products or condiments and Stuart has 5 gallons of potable water in the cottage already. He lives next door so is quickly available if needed but never arrived uninvited or unannounced. He knows LOTS of people so if you rent a car (we did) talk to him first. We enjoyed Ardastra Gardens, just minutes away, and also recommend the drive to and the restaurant at Compass Point. The bedroom loft would be the only drawback here if you are unable to take stairs, otherwise staying here feels like being in the community rather than being in a generic resort.
My husband and myself stayed at Stuart's cottage for a week and it was a perfect stay from beginning to end. Stuart kindly offered to pick us up which was a great help. Stuart is an extremely kind and generous man/host who offered his help in any way possible. His cottage is in a great location - just a stone's throw to Saunders Beach and also on the No. 10 jitney route. We took the jitney every day to downtown Nassau. From there we took the ferry across to Paradise Island or a taxi to the island - or just stayed in Nassau. A couple of days we walked (about 15 minutes) to the Fish Fry and to the Cricket Club (just across from the Fish Fry). The meals at the Cricket Clun were extremely inexpensive and tasty. We would certainty recommend that you stay at Stuart's cottage - it's an ideal spot for a couple. It's very safe and has all the modern commodities such as WiFi and Netflix. Stuart is a kind and helpful man - we wish you a very happy and healthy New Year! Carol and Dave
Incredible value . The cottage is really private and has all the comforts of home - a wonderful tropical garden and just 100 metres from the beach . The location is perfect both Cable Beach or Downtown are within walking distance or a quick bus ride away . Stuart was generous with advise and help , making this vacation our best ever .
I recommend the cottage to anyone who wants a stress free holiday
My little daughter and I recently visited Nassau and stayed in Stuart's cottage. We had a great time, every morning we walked to the playground across from the beach. It is a beautiful beach and never crowded, we caught the buss for down town right at the beach. We felt safe and relaxed in the cute cottage.
Stuart was wonderful he picked us up and dropped us off at the airport, he made sure we had everything we needed for a lovely vacation.
We will be going back to stay again!
It's very centrally located , The cottage is in a quiet , exclusive residential neighborhood ,called Vista Marina . It's close to Downtown and yet near to the many great beaches along the Western Coast .It's a 10 minutes Jitney bus ride to the hotels/casino at Cable Beach , Tourist are welcome and pay cash - para- sailing , jet -skis , pools bars etc . I love the jitneys . They're a great means of getting anywhere for $1.25 and meeting Bahamians .
Getting Downtown takes 10 minutes, and they run every 10 mins. or so . Getting to a supermarket is just as easy - a 10 minute jitney , or there's a convenience store/gas station ,200 metres away.
If you like , you can do what I do every moning - walk the 100 yds. to the beach and sit on the bench and drink coffee - it's really beautiful - spectacular view and no people ! THe beach has restrooms and outdoor showers , as well as a children's playground .
