About Stuart Howells

Your host, Stuart, has lived on the property for seventeen years and is a retired professor of English.

A Bahamian, born in Wales, enjoys helping the visitor to appreciate Nassau and to optimize their experience as a guest and not a tourist. He can arrange a hassle-free pick up at the airport as well as getting a good car rental deal or taxi rides with drivers he knows and trusts . He lives in the main house on the property and is discreetly available for any useful info.

Stuart Howells purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Stuart Howells chose New Providence

It's Architecture is in the centuries old colonial / tropical style.

It is designed for 'living on your porch'. It's in a large property with lots of lush vegetation , so it's pretty private .With a 95% perfect climate and constant sea breeze, why not?

What makes this cottage unique

Its' location and its' relative isolation away from traffic . Sometimes , I just take my coffee and walk the fifty metres to the beach in the morning . The beach is soft sand and perfect for swimming . It's 2000 feet long and divided up into several separate bays . Most visitors are surprised at how few people use the beach . Bahamians rarely like beaching between the end of October and the end of April , the next year

Many days , I just walk along the beach path to Downtown , through the ' Fish Fry ' native restuarant area , and past another stunning beach . This beach has a closeup view of the cruise ships at dock . I've include shots of this in the photo selection .

Home away from home

We hired Stuart’s lovely, homely cottage over the 2013 Christmas period. Stuart was a fantastic host from the minute we got in touch with him months before. He organised for a taxi to meet us at the airport to transport us to his house. Stuart was waiting for us on arrival and welcomed us like we were friends visiting. The cottage itself was perfect with a lounge and kitchen, a lovely tiled bathroom and a mezzanine bedroom, cable TV and it had its own entrance, however the wrap around deck leads you along Stuart’s house as well and he has no problems with you using that entrance if preferred. It was a 3 minute walk to Saunders Beach which on both times we used it we pretty much had the pristine beach to ourselves. On the same road as the beach is the Jitny route to Nassau downtown via the famous Fish Fry, so the cottage is in a very handy location. Both my husband and I could have stayed longer. An absolute paradise, most welcoming people and a wonderful little cottage to escape to at the end of the day where you could sit on the veranda and relax after sightseeing, swimming, snorkelling or diving the day away. 100% paradise and 100% recommended, it was far better than staying in some overpriced and commercial resort.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your comments - it was a pleasure to host you and next time I hope you'll stay longer and visit some of the off island tours that can take you to a different island for the day

Location and Privacy!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here the last week of June-and would return in a heartbeat! It is located less than a 2 minute walk from an excellent beach where we spent much time swimming snorkeling and relaxing. Our host, Stuart, picked us up from the airport and stopped at a grocery store on the way to the cottage so we could get supplies. You do not need to buy any paper products or condiments and Stuart has 5 gallons of potable water in the cottage already. He lives next door so is quickly available if needed but never arrived uninvited or unannounced. He knows LOTS of people so if you rent a car (we did) talk to him first. We enjoyed Ardastra Gardens, just minutes away, and also recommend the drive to and the restaurant at Compass Point. The bedroom loft would be the only drawback here if you are unable to take stairs, otherwise staying here feels like being in the community rather than being in a generic resort.

Wondeful host and great location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and myself stayed at Stuart's cottage for a week and it was a perfect stay from beginning to end. Stuart kindly offered to pick us up which was a great help. Stuart is an extremely kind and generous man/host who offered his help in any way possible. His cottage is in a great location - just a stone's throw to Saunders Beach and also on the No. 10 jitney route. We took the jitney every day to downtown Nassau. From there we took the ferry across to Paradise Island or a taxi to the island - or just stayed in Nassau. A couple of days we walked (about 15 minutes) to the Fish Fry and to the Cricket Club (just across from the Fish Fry). The meals at the Cricket Clun were extremely inexpensive and tasty. We would certainty recommend that you stay at Stuart's cottage - it's an ideal spot for a couple. It's very safe and has all the modern commodities such as WiFi and Netflix. Stuart is a kind and helpful man - we wish you a very happy and healthy New Year! Carol and Dave

The location is perfect both Cable Beach or Downtown are within walking distance or a quick bus ride away . Stuart was generous with advise and help , making this vacation our best ever .

Beautiful place, cute cottage and great host!!

  • 4 of 5

My little daughter and I recently visited Nassau and stayed in Stuart's cottage. We had a great time, every morning we walked to the playground across from the beach. It is a beautiful beach and never crowded, we caught the buss for down town right at the beach. We felt safe and relaxed in the cute cottage.

Stuart was wonderful he picked us up and dropped us off at the airport, he made sure we had everything we needed for a lovely vacation.

We will be going back to stay again!

It's very centrally located , The cottage is in a quiet , exclusive residential neighborhood ,called Vista Marina . It's close to Downtown and yet near to the many great beaches along the Western Coast .It's a 10 minutes Jitney bus ride to the hotels/casino at Cable Beach , Tourist are welcome and pay cash - para- sailing , jet -skis , pools bars etc . I love the jitneys . They're a great means of getting anywhere for $1.25 and meeting Bahamians .

Getting Downtown takes 10 minutes, and they run every 10 mins. or so . Getting to a supermarket is just as easy - a 10 minute jitney , or there's a convenience store/gas station ,200 metres away.

If you like , you can do what I do every moning - walk the 100 yds. to the beach and sit on the bench and drink coffee - it's really beautiful - spectacular view and no people ! THe beach has restrooms and outdoor showers , as well as a children's playground .
