Peaceful Vacation

  • 4 of 5

This is a wonderful place to take a nice quiet vacation. If you love the outdoors, this is the place to visit.

The house was a great size with a nice large kitchen and had everything we needed. It was nice knowing that if we forgot something, it was right there for us. The house was extremely clean when we arrived and the decor was tastefully done as well.

The river is just a short walk, and having access to kayaks and a canoe was perfect. With all the trees by the pavilion, it was the perfect spot to come for the day and relax, jump in the water when you wanted and have enough shade that you didn't need to roast in the hot sun if you didn't want to.

This is definitely a place that I would come back to.

Thank you

A beautiful, charming getaway nestled between the mountains and Shenandoah!

  • 4 of 5

Our family loved our week-long stay. We were a party of 8, 6 adults and 2 children ages 8 and 9. Riverview Farm was the perfect get-away! We spent our week exploring all that the farm has to offer and taking a couple of day trips to nearby attractions..from fly-fishing, kayaking, and hiking on the farm to horseback riding, shopping, and exploring Luray Caverns, (all within a 40 minute drive) we are already talking about planning another trip next year!

Crabill's Meat Market is a MUST for steaks and sausage, Royal Horseshoe Farm provided an amazing trail ride and paired each rider with the perfect horse, we found Murray's Fly Shop in Edinburg to be the perfect go-to for our fishing equipment and the shopping in Winchester was everything one could need (Martin's Grocery Store is worth the drive!)

You can truly relax on the farm or stay busy with adventures and feel right at home!

I will make a couple of suggestions to the owners that would have made our stay more enjoyable...1) An outside eating area at the house, picnic table, table on the deck, etc would have been nice. 2) the coffee maker really does take 35+ minutes to brew a pot of coffee and was about drive my brother over the edge. 3) The frying pans have seen better days and cooking in them is virtually impossible, we literally went out and bought some to use the 2nd day we were there! 4) We found several broken beer bottles at the pavilion/bon-fire area..we cleaned up what we could, but couldn't let the kids run bare-foot because of the broken glass. Maybe a "No glass past this point" sign at the road leading to the pavilion?

I'm not complaining, it was a great vacation and we truly thank Kathleen and Jerry for everything! I would recommend this house to anyone looking for an outdoor adventure, secluded get-away, or relaxing do nothing retreat!

Sincerely,

Michelle

Great farm house on the river.

  • 5 of 5

This is a really nice property suited for quiet family get aways, fishing, hiking and kayaking. Kathleen is a gracious host who is very responsive yet respectful of your privacy. The house is well appointed, tastefully decorated and has all amenities to augment those things you may have forgotten to bring. The farm fields are leased out in wheat and hay so no real active farming to disturb your peace. We saw plenty of wildlife from wild turkeys, dear, a bald eagle, osprey, plenty of ducks and small mouth bass. There is a small extra house next to the main farm house that is also rented. There was a nice couple from out of state who we hardly noticed other then to say hello but if you're looking to be completely alone this might be an issue. Glad we found this great place and will look to return.

Peaceful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful place nestled away from it all! A beautiful low lying bridge over the Shanendoah River takes you up a path to the house. Lots of room to hike, walk, explore and play! Owners are great and got right back to us with any questions we had. We would love to come back!

AMAZING

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our recent stay on this beautiful farm. It is located in a large river bend of the north fork of the Shenandoah River and backs to the mountains and forest. We enjoyed the secluded location and that it was still close to “sightseeing”, such as the Luray Caverns, Skyline Drive, hiking etc. But there is also a lot one can do on the farm, such as enjoying the fireplace on the riverside, taking short hikes etc. It was not only very quiet, relaxing and beautiful, but also very well maintained. Both, the house and the farm were absolutely charming and very clean. The house is very well appointed. It was also extremely spacious for our family of three and we enjoyed having so much room. Kathleen was very nice, helpful and generous. She and Jerry went out of their way to make our stay special and something to remember – our son was even permitted to ride the golf-cart around the farm (although that is probably not the norm). Before we arrived, she announced that she had gotten us “something to get started”. The wonderful “goodie bag” was easily more than enough for the first weekend. Kathleen’s attention to detail was heartwarming; not only did the “starter kit” contain some nice wine, but she even had gone out of her way to ensure that all the items including Spaghetti, Chips and Rolls were gluten-free - she had remembered that I mentioned one of the guests needed to eat gluten free. In short: We would return any time and very highly recommend this property.
