New Santa Fe style home with a private courtyard surrounding a kiva fireplace. We designed our home for maximum light/passive solar with the north and south french doors oriented for views of the surrounding bluffs and cliffs. Our super dark night skies are perfect for star-gazing, with a deck and hot tub right off the master bedroom. Comes with fully equipped kitchen and high-speed internet, satellite TV, full entertainment center with stereo speakers throughout the house.
Both bedrooms have high quality mattresses with plush bedding. Courtyard offers a relaxing environment for grilling and dining (a large propane grill is supplied). We'll supply the mountain bikes for the slickrock trails of Moab (and Bluff!), water crafts for the local San Juan River, Lake Powell or beyond and maps and guidebooks to get you there.
David is a University Professor and Marti is retired after working as a professional archaeologist then a City administrator for many years. Our 'first' home is in Flagstaff, Arizona. He loves mountain biking and rock climbing and she hiking, history, museums and beaches/snorkeling.
Marti purchased this house in 2010
We love to hike and explore the slots, canyons and ruins of the 4-corners area. We eventually found we spent so much time in S. Utah we decided to build our dream home there.
Many areas of the US Southwest have been 'discovered' and commercialized in the past decade. Bluff is Utah's best kept secret - world class scenery, the San Juan River for swimming and rafting, surrounded by thousands of square miles of public lands with amazing canyons and Anasazi ruins to discover and explore (please be respectful and leave them as you found them).. Check out or for more information on our area.
We stayed in this house a few years ago and always wanted to come back. Finally we did! And it was EVEN NICER than we remembered. The place is spotless and has everything you need. The patio area is fantastic, and the view of the bluffs in the background is much nicer that the photos. You can even just walk out the door and explore the dirt road back there in all the canyons for miles. It's quiet! I'm not much for cooking while on vacation but the kitchen has everything. Oh and unlike most rental homes (and we counted this is our 13th HomeAway) all the lights work! All the electronics work. Everything works! Bluff itself is a very cool and historic town. Do take in the Fort, it's very well done. The Twin Rocks place is the most interesting gift shop/diner ever. The Cottonwood Steak House is worth a visit not so much for the food but for the setting. Of course you have to see Monument Valley (which we missed first time around), Cedar Mesa and the Grand Gulch, the Moki Dugway and .... oh I could go on and on. I only hope we get to come back again. Many thanks to the owners, whom we've never met, for making this dream house available - and all for the price of a decent hotel room.
This is a lovely home in the very quiet town of Bluff. It's not an empty sterile house. The owners' stuff is everywhere, hundreds of great books, all the kitchen implements you'd ever need, and a garage full of toys. One piece of advice: they list a bunch of their outdoor equipment as being available for guests to use, but you should double check with Marti to make sure that bike or canoe or whatever is ready to go.
Martin's house is everything it says it is and more. He untowardly provides for the guest.
Bluff is a place that is truly not on the map like all true places. I would prefer to keep it a secret. The good news it is like a true aesthetic , unapparent, subtle. Few are left who appreciate profound silence, the truth of solitude. This is Bluff. wew.
This charming southwest home is in one of the most peaceful places we have ever been. The location was perfect for exploring the Four Corners area (Canyon de Chelly, Valley of the Gods, Natural Bridges, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point, Arches, and Four Corners Monument). As much as we enjoyed venturing out each day, we looked forward to getting back each evening to enjoy dinner outside on the beautiful patio looking out at more red rock and blue skies! The home is tastefully decorated with all of the comforts of home. The owner was wonderful to work with and made us feel so welcome. We hope to visit again some day!
Beautiful home with all the luxuries. The outdoor fireplace and hot tub add an extra piece of enjoyment to the comfortable interior. The homeowner left clear instructions, use of guidebooks and suggestions that made the stay there perfect. As well, a nice bottle of wine was left as a welcome gift. The surrounding area offers so much to do. We would love to rent the place again next year and a would highly recommend it to others.
We had a wonderful time in this home; there is everything you need and more. We had a wonderful time sightseeing Monument Valley, Valley of The Gods, Natural Bridges, Hovenweep and Mesa Verde. I wish we had more time to take some of the wonderful hikes that were recommended by the owner. Lots of thoughtful details like leaving a fire set up for us in the outdoor fireplace. Loved the views especially in the am.
Our home is in the center of the 'four-corners' - a vast region encompassing portions of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah containing America’s largest concentration of national parks and monuments. Some of America’s most diverse scenery can be found here – Arches, Canyonlands, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon and Natural Bridges, Lake Powell, Monument Valley - to name just a few. Remote canyons, slickrock hiking/biking, fascinating geologic features and the remnants of prehistoric cultures are found everywhere.
Bluff is a small community of archaeologists, outdoor guides, artists and river runners. Super quiet, relatively remote (no grocery shopping except a small quickmart for milk, gas, etc.) few restaurants, one (great) coffee shop and no bars nor nightlife - this is the place to come to get away. Just walk up Cottonwood Wash from the home to discover Anasazi ruins/petroglyphs, and hidden springs.
