Built in 1774, this is the original farmhouse for the entire valley. The house has been lovingly renovated a number of times throughout its history, but it still retains its originals details and charm from the Revolutionary-War period. This is truly one of the more beautiful houses in the area.
The house is handsomely situated on six secluded acres. It has four (five including the den) bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room with fireplace, a den with fireplace (that functions as a fifth bedroom), a separate dining room, a sun/breakfast room, and two lovely fireplaces. The kitchen is fully equipped for the most demanding of dinner parties. There is also a separate laundry area adjacent to the kitchen.
There is a bedroom downstairs that has a queen bed and an en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom is the master located upstairs with a queen bed and an en-suite bathroom. This upstairs bathroom has a second entrance from the hallway for the use of the other two upstairs bedrooms, in addition to its being en-suite to the master bedroom. The third bedroom is upstairs and has two twin beds. The fourth bedroom is located upstairs and has a full-size/double bed. There is a separate den downstairs with its own fireplace on its own side of the house just off the living room, which nicely functions as a fifth bedroom, containing a queen-size sleeper sofa. There is also a queen-size sleeper sofa in the sun room and a twin-size day bed in the living room.
The property has a 50-foot, salt-water pool. There is a grill at poolside that is both charcoal and gas. In addition to the house, there is a charming art studio in a separate outbuilding and a barn that it used as a two-car garage and tool shop.
Located just over the hill from the town square in Woodstock, the house is in Woodstock proper, just minutes from shops and restaurants in the center of town.
I'm a psychology professor living in Manhattan and Woodstock with my husband and two kids.
The house is perfect year-round, with skiing in the winter and swimming/hiking/you-name-it during the other seasons!
We loved our weekend in woodstock! The house was absolutely lovely, especially the bedrooms and the light-filled breakfast room. And the claw-foot tub upstairs was a real treat. I can only imagine how beautiful and fun it would be to stay in the summer and have access to the pool. We used the fireplace nightly and the kitchen was well-equipped with basics for dining in. The caretaker was helpful and available when we couldn't figure out how to light the stove and it was a really easy, quick trip from NYC. I will definitely keep the property in mind for future weekend escapes.
Thank you for sharing your home with us once again this year. We will be back again!
Don't hesitate to rent this beautiful original farm house...or farm home I should say. The home is so well cared for and allows you to feel comfortable and at home. Everything about the home was as advertised on the website. The grounds are beautiful, the beds were so comfortable, and everything was very clean. The owner and property manager were both very responsive to my endless questions, even down to which was the best route to take! we'd love to rent this home again, maybe in the winter and bring grandchildren to sled ride. We only stayed a weekend (which was not long enough) and went to the Woodstock museum but then did not have enough time to see Woodstock the town as much as I would have liked to. We did most of our cooking at the farm house. There were 4 couples on this mini-vacation and we were not crowded at all for sleeping arrangement or bathroom use. I hope you enjoy your stay here as much as we did.
Overall a very pleasant experience. The house was big and clean. The pool was fabulous. The TV and dvr did not work which was a disappointment. Would definitely recommend this house.
There is no air conditioning in this beautiful old house. We had a lovely time . The setting is gorgeous and the pool was lovely. The kitchen is long and narrow but has some good work space. The sunroom was where we spent most of our time. The property manager was very responsive.
This is an outstanding house and grounds. This is the second time we stayed here and are so pleased we could arrange it again. The house becomes home to a large extended multigenerational family. There is beauty all around
This property is very well maintained and meticulous, and the owner and manager are highly accommodating to requests. We enjoyed wonderful meals utilizing the state of the art kitchen and appliances, swam in the salt water heated pool, used the fireplace, and the library to unwind after hiking to Mt. Overlook and the surrounding areas. We enjoyed the town of Woodstock, the yoga center, the drumming circle on Sunday afternoon and shopped at the Crafts People nearby. The proximity to the town is so convenient yet the large acreage is so secluded that we enjoyed the best of both worlds.
Another plus is that the house truly can comfortably and privately sleep 10-12. We were there in the summer and look forward to going back during foliage when it is sure to be spectacular.
