Lois & Doug Snader purchased this house in 1996
In past years, this Victorian Mansion was first built by a brides'father to be given to her as a wedding gift! Her and her husband lived their entire lives here.Early in the 1970's a couple bought the property and operated (for 25 yrs)as an art gallery. Then the Snader's bought the property to bring it up to modern standards and to share it with others,to enjoy the architecture & charm of times gone by.
As we entered the grand front hallway we fell in love with the magnificent sprial staircase that wraps to the third floor. we knew immediately, this was the property for us!
We were 12 girls, Having a get-away for a long weekend. We all met from different states and loved the house, and sitting on the ample porches and watching the buggy's go by. All 12 of us had a wonderful time.
The hosts, Lois and Doug, were incredibly kind and helpful. When some of our wedding weekend plans fell through, they rallied with us and worked things out and they did so with a smile. They knew where to go buy this, how to plan that -- all the local connections we didn't have, they did. They live onsite and we felt comfortable interacting with them; it was a little like getting great neighbors for the weekend.
The property itself is quirky and comfortable. It was very clean and accommodated our group of 12 easily. One thing to note is that the house is next to a fairly busy highway, so there is some road noise through the night. We found the noise was easily managed with ear plugs or by running the AC units in the front bedrooms. It's not a deal-breaker, just a little quirk to prepare for. The kitchen was stocked with plenty of basics like spices and pots and pans. Our huge family converged here from a number of different places, and all our cars could easily park off-street here. There were plenty of towels and toiletries. We had rainy weather, so not many opportunities to be in the lovely yard, but we loved sitting on the ample porches and watching the weather.
We would definitely stay here again. It had the charm of an old house, but with amenities of a new house (plenty of outlets, updated bathrooms, dishwasher, etc.). But by far, the best things is the hospitality of the wonderful hosts!
We highly recommend this house as the perfect place to stay while visiting the Lancaster County area. Lois was extremely responsive, answering all our questions before we made our reservation. Upon our arrival, she greeted us, provided helpful information regarding the house and surrounding area, and made us feel right at home. The rooms are lovely, each of the bedrooms has its own theme and color scheme, and the house was very clean. The pictures on the site are good but it's even better in person! It's obvious that Lois and Doug have made a lot of effort to think through all of the details to make their guests very comfortable in this charming, historic house.
My Mom, Sister, Sister-In-Law and I stayed nearly a week. The house is so inviting the moment you walk in the door. It was clean and well appointed. I was greatly surprised at how comfortable the beds were!! Everyone in our group stated how well they slept. The house is so large and accommodated us all very well, with each of us having our own private bathroom.
The location of the house couldn't have been better. Everything we wanted to do was right there at us. We saw the production of 'Samson' at Sight and Sound, took a short train ride through the country side, took a horse & buggy ride, went to Hershey's Chocolate World, took a trolley ride through Hershey, went to the National Civil War Museum, saw the musical 'Menopause' at The Dutch Apple Dinner Theater, explored Kettle Village, shopped for antiques, took in a movie, and experienced a multitude of great places to eat! At night, we came back to the house and enjoyed time together in the comfort of a nice home (which is so much better than any hotel could ever offer).
Lois and Doug have made the check-in and check-out process so easy and quick. I would highly recommend this vacation home to others! It was an exceptional stay, to say the least. We will definitely return to Lois and Doug's place, in Paradise, on our next return!
The house is charming, clean and tastefully decorated. The stair case is beautiful workmanship, as well as, all the woodwork in the house. Lois and Doug are wonderful and so helpful. We had only planned the trip for 9 adults, but a couple of grandkids decided to join us. This was no problem for Lois. If we find our way back to Lancaster, we will definitely stay here again. Thank you so much for sharing your Elegant vacation rental.
The house is beautiful, very well kept and extremely clean. Lois was very nice and anything we needed to ask her, she was there and answered promptly. The kitchen was equipped with the necessary things we needed and there was even a tv in there as well. We were close to everything we had planned. We were only a short distance from Sight and Sound , the Strasburg train ride and Shady Maple. My 10 year old granddaughter told her Dad it was the best vacation ever. She has been to Beaches, Disney and New York City. This was such a relaxing vacation just driving around was fun. Thank you Lois for sharing this gem with us!
